Auction To Raise Funds for an Actual Journey - Closed - Thanks For Bidding!
- Todd Snyder(ConnerCP)United States
Back in January, I helped run an auction Auction Benefiting Jon's Journey - Auction Over - Thanks Everyone!. We raised $5,492.90 to go towards Jon's medical bills, and again I want to thank everyone who donated games, bid on games, and helped box/ship/deliver the games.
This auction is for something a little more fun related. First, some background. Back in 1997, there was a PC/Mac game called Myth: The Fallen Lords. I got sucked into this game and found my way into a gaming order within the game called Clan Plaid. We grew to over 100 members, and in 1998 we held our first 'face to face' gathering, where about a dozen of us traveled to Tahoe, piled into a house, and played video games, ate food, drank booze and just hung out - - http://picasaweb.google.com/ClanPlaid. It was a great time, and over the years we've had 2 or 3 such gatherings each year, one in the East Coast area, one in the Midwest and one in the West Coast area. Over time, we stopped playing Myth, and really didn't play the same video games anymore, but we started playing board games at these gatherings, which is the primary focus now, along with the food, the booze, and the hanging out.
A few years back, when I met Jon, I thought he might have fun at these gatherings, so I invited him to come to a Midwest one that was up in Chicago. He had tons of fun, and the past few years he's made it to the Midwest ones and the East Coast ones. Jon got sick right before the scheduled Midwest one last November, which I was hosting, so he missed out on the weekend of gaming and seeing friends from around the country. The East Coast Gathering this year is in April, and going to be in New York City, and Jon is interested in going, as am I, and the plans are we will drive there.
This auction is to raise funds for the trip. As long as Jon is feeling well enough for the Journey, which is looking good currently, we'll make the trip. This auction will just offset the cost of the travel to/from NYC. We're staying with friends along the way, and will be staying with a friend in NYC as well, so the costs are gas, tolls, and food for the two of us. The more that is raised, the better we will eat! If Jon is not able to go, then the funds raised by this auction will go towards getting him to the West Coast Gathering in July.
To be clear - the trip will happen regardless of the success of this auction, I have the funds to cover the trip currently, but I didn't really budget for it, so I'd rather sell a few games that are not being played to cover the costs.
And now, the rules of the auction...Auction Details
This Auction will end Thursday, March 27th at 9:00pm CDT. At bid closing time, for items with bids during the last hour, the auction for that item will extend for an additional 15 minutes, with additional bids further extending the auction for that item. The extended time bidding will end when there are no bids for 15 minutes on the item. I will try to be online for the auction ending and start posting that items are closed; however, the rules are in place regardless of if I'm online or not, and I will ignore any late bids.
If there are BGG outages during the afternoon/evening of Thursday, March 27nd, the auction may extend for a day, but I'll try to announce this decision as quickly as possible.
There will soft reserves on items, no BINs, please bid in whole dollar amounts, and include your zipcode (or list local) to assist with getting shipping estimates. No contingent bids! For items with bids below the soft reserve, I reserve the right to sell or not sell the item using any reasoning.
All photos are of the actual games.
International bidding is OK, but realize that shipping cost will be very high, and I will not lie on any necessary custom forms. All bids will be in US Dollars.
The auction winner will pay for all shipping costs, rounded up to the nearest dollar. Combined shipping will be offered whenever possible if you buy more than one item.
Local pickup is available in the St Louis area, I can generally make it to the local board game Meetups on occasion. Geekway pickup May 15th-18th in St Louis is available as well if you can wait, but I do ask that you pay for the games now.
Shipping is from the 63141 zipcode. I have done many auctions the past few years and have shipped 100+ packages with no complaints. I always do my best to package your games to arrive safely. Shipping will be by USPS - priority mail, parcel post, or First Class mail. I will get estimates after the auction ends and the winner can decide which method is used, combining shipping when possible. I pay online for priority, which gives a discount, so it is usually the cheapest method, and the easiest for me. As long as payment is received by Sunday evening, the games will go out Monday.
I am not a fan of PayPal with their high fees, as such I would prefer payment via Dwolla - https://www.dwolla.com. I will give a 5% discount rounded up to the nearest whole dollar if you use Dwolla. I will also give the same 5% discount for local cash payments. Or, if you must, you can use PayPal and make me sad. I will send payment instructions and totals after I have your shipping preferences/information.
I will do a bulk transaction for the total amount once everything is complete through the BGG Marketplace so BGG will get their 3%.
Thank you for looking and bidding!
