It is my birthday on the 19th of March. I took the day off from work, and decided to spend half a day (at least) playing solitaire games.

There is supposed to be a planned power outage between 9 and 12 CET, so updates will be sparse.

I haven't decided what I'm going to play, but I know my pimped out Robinson Crusoe will hit the table.

Edit: I played as the carpenter and managed to succeed in the castaways scenario on my third ever go.
Power is still funky, so I will expand this description later.

Edit 2: Everything clicked for me in this game. I used the carpenters abilities a lot and had good shelter prepared. I also made sure to craft the axe early. I only explored as much as I needed (four areas). I was also lucky in the first three or four cards in that they had no or little bad effects when leaving the board, which allowed me to get a good start.
I had a gun which I used for defense against a tiger and rum which I used to heal myself in the end of the game.
I used the masts for wood and crafted medicine which helped in preventing gangrene in my leg.

In the end I won in the tenth round getting 44 points.

This game makes me want to start again right after I finish it.
I will try the other scenarios next.

Played three games testing a new Abductor. Lost all three.

Btw, check out my PnP skills on the picture

Edit: I tried three different strategies:
- keeping the abductor calm,
- extracting as many hostages as possible
- not uncovering the demands to avoid having hostages killed out of revenge (it is the effect of one of his demands).

I was closest in the first game with all of the Hostages out of the Hostage pool, but couldn't stop the abductor escaping even though I had a lot of chances.
The second one was quick and unsuccessful, with losing over half the hostages after four rounds (maybe also due to risking too much).
In the third game the Abductor also escaped. I had a long shot in the last throw and I needed two successes on two dice (a success is normally a 5 or 6). I got 2,2.

I'm still not tired of this game and have fun playing it.

I will elaborate more on the blog.

The delivery man just surprised my with my this game from Kickstarter.
It has a solitaire variant so on the table it went.

Still no power so just a short summary for now.
A very quick dice chucking game with some meaningful decisions.

Edit: I must say I kickstarted this game (three copies of it) for the components: six nice heavy dice, 24 square tiles and 12 round tokens. And an expansion is on its way. The components are very hight quality, but the gameplay is interesting.
Each player has six ships and has to collect three treasures. The ships move on the board based on the dice thrown. Dice are thrown and can be rethrown using the Yahtzee mechanism. When a ship reaches the bottom of the board the player gains some benefits: extra dice, more rethrows or the ability to add or subtract point on the dice. It can also collect treasure and go back to the beginning (losing the bonus)

The player has a choice of taking treasure or using the bonus for the next turns.

In the solitaire game you calculate how many turns it takes to get three treasures with 5 being best and 12+ worst.

I played 3 games:
1. 7 turns (even though I played some rules wrong and made things more difficult for myself)
2. 8 turns
3. 7 turns

I think it works as a quick filler and would be interesting with more players because there are rules for stealing/defending treasure.

Made three patrols for the second round of the The Hunters - Eight Week Tournament II.

The captain did quite well: 8 ships sunk - 68800 tons.

Still no power. I'm going out to do some errands.

Edit:

Week two of the tournament
Writing for the second time. Network error

Feb 1940:Spanish Coast

The captain was given a choice and decided to traverse the warmer Spanish Coast.
Upojn arrival a convoy was spotted. Three small freighters (Willimantis - 4600, Standholme - 2500, Woensprecht - 4700) and one large freighter (Ville d'Liege) were available for attack.
Four torpedoes were fired. One sunk the Willimantis and the rest resulted in two duds and a miss.
The sub was undetected and decided to follow.
This time two small freighters (Manuela - 5000, Dayrose - 4100) and two large freighters (Beacon Grange - 10100 and Alexander Macond - 7200) were nearest. Another two duds an miss and a hit later and the Dayrose was sunk.
Again the u-boat was undetected, but the captain decided to save his torpedoes and break off the attack.

It turned out to be a good choice. An unescorted tanker Alfred Olsen (8800) was sunk in two round of combat and the sub went back with just four torpedoes left.

Ships sunk: 3 (17500 tons)
Total ships sunk: 6 (36900 tons)

Apr 1940:British Isles

A friendly ship was met. They offered some spare parts, but it was the beginning of the patrol, so none were needed.

On the next two legs and unescorted tanked (Barbro 6300) and a large freighter (Jagersfonigin 10000) were sunk.
On the last leg a crash dive helped avoid an aircraft attack. The aircraft must have been following because it was sighted again just before entering port. It was avoided but only just.

After this patrol the crew gained Veteran status.

Ships sunk: 2 (16300 tons)
Total ships sunk: 8 (53200 tons)

Jun 1940:British Isles

The British Isles again and an unescorted large freighter to start things off. Vancouver Island (9500) went down in the first round of combat.

An escorted tanker - Svend Foyn 15000 - was to tempting to pass. Three of the first four torpedoes fired sunk it, but the sub was detected. Thankfully the attack from the green escort did no damage. The next two rounds of depth charges caused severe flooding and damaged the hull and batteries even though test depth was exceeded.
Even though the captain risked and didn't exceed test depth to avoid a longer stay in port, the u-boat managed to escape.

On the way back a large freighter Brazza 10500 was sunk.

The captain was quite happy with the consistent patrols and was hoping for a promotion and medal in the near future.

Ships sunk: 3 (35000 tons)
Total ships sunk: 11 (88200 tons)
