The popular challenge to play 10 games 10 times each recently underwent a major rules change: instead of choosing all games beforehand, people can replace games as they go along.

Which leads to the interesting question: which games are people taking out and putting in? Which games are turning out to be less exciting than expected, and which fun new games are people discovering?

List your additions and subtractions here, and then I'll count it all up and see which are the surprise hits and surprise misses of the year

We just bought Suburbia this month, and somehow it's been played 13 times already. Well, that was easy.

Last Will was one that my fiancé already owned, but I had never played it. He had actually been thinking of getting rid of it, but after one play, I knew it was a keeper. I love the theme of trying to waste money as fast as you can, and the Victorian setting.

Chicago Express is one that I've owned for years, and can never seem to get to the table. People just aren't that excited about it, me included. And it seems that this won't be its year either: after one play, my fiancé said that he was not looking forward to playing it nine more times.

I have no idea why we don't want to play Galaxy Trucker, but there always seems to be something more exciting crying for our attention. The fact that the enormous Big Box can't really be taken out of the apartment doesn't help either.

I wanted to play this the day I got it, but the lack of a vassal module pulled it off of the list, where I replaced it with Red Winter: The Soviet Attack at Tolvajärvi, Finland – 8-12 December 1939. The vassal mod is out now, but it sounds like the rules need updating. I believe in the designer (cuz he rules) and I think the living rules update will happen this year, and that is why I held off from numerous trade offers I received. When the update comes, this will probably re-enter the list and knock another game off.

None.

I'm in it for the fun of my first selection.
I selected them based on the will to play them a lot more in 2014, and I still do.

I could add Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island, because that would be nice on the list and want to play it more also. But I haven't changed my mind on the other 10 (actually 13) that are on my list.

I have added Targi and
to my list(s) because I thought it would be just as easy to play each of those 10 times as any of the other games on the list. I haven't subtracted any of the games.

I have three 10 x 10 lists plus the 2 extra games. Of the 320 games I expect to play during 2014, I'm 65% of the way there. However ten of the games are back at home in New Hampshire while I'm on the road in my RV in Arizona. So I won't get to start on those 10 until summer. Of the 22 games I have with me, I've played them 209 times already.

I have continued to add gaming instances even when I've already reached 10 plays of a certain game. Of the games with me, the lowest number of plays I have is 4; the highest number is 19.

(My lists are #294, 295, and 296 on the main list.)

Panzer (second edition)

I realized I have a ready opponent for CoH (my wife...), whereas I would have to look very hard to find an opponent for ten games of Panzer (I don't play much on VASSAL...). In 2015, however, I hope my wife & I can "graduate" to playing Panzer ten times.

I only signed up in late January (I think). So, when the rules were changed to allow us to count plays from earlier in the year, I swapped in Forbidden Desert - which we'd played several times the week before I joined.

At that point, I also added Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer - which we had only played once, but liked much more than I expected (and which I hadn't realised had solitaire rules too).

Since I was swapping in a game that will really only be played 2-player (Ascension), I swapped out another in that category (Jambo - which I'd still love to see get 10 plays). I think the other game I swapped out was Steam. There are two other train games on my list (Empire Builder and Silverton), so I was trying to diversify a bit.

Comments:
So far I haven't changed anything and so far I'm not planning to either. Most of the games I listed are ahead of the pace needed to hit 10 by the end of the year, and three are already more than halfway finished.

The only one of any concern is Der schwarze Pirat which has been played twice so far, but could struggle for a lot of repeat plays. My daughters (and primary opponents for it) like the game, but haven't figured out how to use the bellows so far. Unless something changes, it may be another year or two before they have it mastered well enough to play the game more regularly.
