Well, money is tight lately. I couldn't afford replacement blades for my regular razors so I went into a dollar store for a bag of cheap disposable blades. The replacement blades for your Mach IV or Gillette Sensor razor are usually kept in a glass case under lock and key. They force you to spend a small fortune or buy cheap disposables and rip your face to spreads. Yet, in with all the high priced blades was a pack of double edge blades going for only a dollar. I decided to pick up a pack and try to get a double edge razor.

My grandfather used the old straight razor with a leather strap to sharpen it. My father had a straight razor, but mostly used a double edge safety razor. The first razor I had was double edge razor that I bought in a five and dime store in my senior year of college.

In my freshman year of college I got my first electric razor. It was a cheap Remington model. I never got a really good shave with this thing, but at the time I wasn't too picky.

In my last year of college I stopped shaving all together. My senior class photo shows me with a beard.

Well, in the early 1980's we were in a recession and I was out of college looking for work. I knew I had to loose the beard if I wanted to get a job. So I picked up a Norelco electric razor. It wasn't as good as a shave with a blade, but what the heck.

Wanting a better shave I bought the first of my multiple blade cartridge razors. Over the years the models changed, the number of blades increased as did the price.

So I picked up a double edge razor just like the one I first used. I am amazed at what a great shave I get from it. The blades are cheap and last a lot longer than than the expensive replacement blades.

I've been a Philips devotee my whole life since I got my first one in High School. My dad was a Braun man, and my son is a Remington user. You can get them as low as $20 or for more than $200. I've had both cheap and expensive and found the $20 ones shaves just as nice as the expensive ones. These days I'm more about battery life and the new ones with the Lithium ones seem to run forever before needing a recharge. As for single blade razors, I gave up on those long ago. Too much of a pain to foam up your face when you don't have the time to do it justice. And the disposables just keep coming up with more blades for a higher price just like you mentioned. It's a racket. What's next, the 12-blade titanium? Laughable.

Of course a smooth shave just makes you look sexier when playing boardgames and is sure to win over the ladies shake
