I'm merely keeping the seat warm for this month until Cerith returns.

Taking part is easy:

1) Add the game of the miniature you painted as an item to the list.

2) Add the picture of your painted miniature in the comment section for that game.

(use the format [imageid=xxxxxmedium] where xxxxx is the id of the picture)

That way people will be able to better judge your work. Medium should be sufficient please do not use large.

Rules:

1) The image you submit must have been uploaded during March 2014. Gallery images are ok but submitted images are preferred. As they've gone through the geek mod process it guarantees the picture quality and it's also easier to check the submission date. The contest will end on April 30th.

2) You are the artist. Do not submit miniatures painted by someone else.

3) One entry per person. You may, however, use up to two pictures of your entry, usually, the front and back of the miniature.

4) The winner will be the picture with the most thumbs. You can thumb as many as you like.

5) If you can; include the make of the mini, scale and what paints you used in your entry.

Prizes:

Unfortunately, I'm reliant on tips to offer decent prizes at the moment as I don't have a huge amount of geekgold.

Any tips received will awarded as follows:

1st place: 35%
2nd place: 25%
3rd place: 15%
Encouragement Awards 25%

Note I have altered this at my discretion - this may change when Cerith retakes the reigns.

Encouragement awards will be given to non-placing worthy entries with a bias to new participants.

I'll round down tips and put the remainder towards future prizes.

Judging at the end of the month and winners will appear in the next months list.

1st place will now also receive an exclusive microbadge! mb

Please give this geeklist a thumb to help get it to the front page. The more contestants the better!

And don't forget to click on the images you like and give the actual images thumbs up as well!

Giles also found this useful website http://www.how-to-paint-miniatures.com/ it's full of useful tips on painting.

Previous contests for your viewing pleasure:
Golden Turtleback Painted Miniatures Contest previous (and current) contests

Attention anyone feeling too daunted to enter!
We now have on offer for entries finishing outside of the top three so enter even if you think you don't stand a chance of winning. This will be awarded at my discretion and probably split amongst several entries.

Our more experienced painters will be able to offer advice and several people have already said they've learnt something simply by seeing their work next to work they consider to be of a higher standard.
So please enter anyway, you've really got nothing to lose.

There's now a guild for anything miniature painting related. It can be found here here

This month I have finally finished the chaos gods miniatures for Chaos in the Old World.

Front:

Rear:

These miniatures were painted as part of my offering for the Jack Vassel charity auction. Detail on colour and paints used, as well as the collaborative creative process, can be found here:

Something for Squash – a Jack Vasel Charity Auction painting tracking list

I'm very pleased with how this lot turned out and found the collaborative creative process to be quite a rewarding experience.

I am now painting up all the character miniatures for War of the Ring (Second Edition).

Reconnaissance and Sabotage Detachment of the Russian Army. These would be the forerunner of SPETSNAZ. Note the Body Armour. Their grandchildren are currently busy in the Crimea.

Paints: Vallejo Model Colour
Bases: Warbases
Protective Varnishes and Matt Spray: Army Painter
Acknowledgements: Vladimir Putin

This is a great wee set from Warlord Games: metal Russian figures for Bolt Action. They are bloody hard to kill thanks to the body armour but, this does slow them down a bit. The other positive is that they are armed to the teeth and quite capable of taking out most German tanks save for the really heavy ones and even they are not entirely immune to a lucky roll.

I particularly like the flamethrower figure on the Front Row Right; the Russians disguised their flame throwers as ordinary rifles to make them less interesting to snipers. The Comrade on the Front Row Left has acquired a couple of German Panzerfausts. All the others are armed with sub machine guns except for the Comrade on the Back Row second from Left, who has a Degtyaryov light machine gun, commonly known as the "Record Player" because the disc-shaped pan magazine resembled a gramophone record and its top cover revolved while the weapon was being fired.

The Comrade on the Front Row second from Right is carrying what looks like a TM-41 anti-tank mine as well as his sub machine gun.

Regards,

Jim

I've missed a few but I finally managed to upload a picture last month of something I've painted and here it is!

It’s ARP warden Hodges accompanied by ARP warden Hodges

here is what he should look like

He’s from Warlord and found in their Dad’s Army Home Guard set which is a true 28mm sculpt so smaller than most of the GW and other figures you’ll find these days. I’ve painted him with my usual mix of Vallejo Model colour and Air colour.

Yes, more Zombicide, will the flood of minis ever stop? I know these are not really Golden Turtleback material since they are fairly quick paint jobs, but I think they fit the theme well, and it is the best thing I painted last month...

I took a little break from the competition. I spent a lot of time rekindling my interest in painting. I switched gears and painted up some Flames of War armies. I find that switching scales/paints/and genre really helps get my creative juices flowing. Someday maybe I'll upload pictures of my early war German forces. Until then, here is a Tyranid Exocrine that I painted using Citadel paints. The paint scheme is my take on the hive fleet Leviathan pattern, but with less white. While 40k isn't necessarily my first choice in gaming, it is what I can actually play, so I play it. The new Tyranid book came out in January, so I've been painting 'nids.

Finished painting Axis, a Warcaster from the Convergence of Cyriss army. Very cool model - I love the chunkiness of the model and the gearpunk aesthetics. The metallics were pretty fun to do. Lots and lots of glazing and layering. I used primarily Formula P3 paints with some Citadel paints thrown in.

I'm actually painting up a whole army in this color scheme. Dunno if I should post a link to it here, though. I'll leave that up to Muz.

Lem the Bard from my Repear Bones collection. Been a few months since I painted anything so I thought pulling out some of the heroes from the PACG would be a good place to jump back in. Of course, I started with a figure that I didn't love - he's just not very exciting.

My partner and I are new to mini painting and are trying to push ourselves to try more advanced techniques. This is one of our first attempts but we thought they came up well.

Edit: I reckon these guys are about 7cm tall. We used Army Painter paints and strong Quickshade. I then painted on a matte varnish as the Quickshade is eyewateringly shiny. The teeth were my first attempt at dry brushing, which seemed appropriate. Also, I'm colour blind and need my partner lay out the paints for me, so the colour scheme is on her!
