LankyEngineer originally created these surveys to provide a fun diversion that would get the community talking about their hobby. Blott continued the tradition for a while. Along the way, we've learned a lot about BGG and its users.

Please note that you may subscribe to the notification thread to be made aware of new lists: 10 Questions Series Subscription Thread.

Please answer all of the following questions in a single Geeklist entry. You are encouraged to comment on other people's items as well!

To create your own entry, click on "Add Item" below and select a board game that best describes Question 0. Copy and paste the questions into your item and answer each of the questions. A pre-formatted set of questions is in the comments below that you may quote.

0) As your geeklist entry, select the game you've lost the most but still enjoy. (Or if you are a traditionalist and refuse to accept change, select the game you'd most like to play.)
Right now, this is the game I have lost the most (never won) but still really enjoy.

1) What is your favorite "house rule" for a game you play?
I am not a big fan of houserules. But probably the one game that I play that is the most different from the published rules is Union Pacific. It is a mix of the official variants that Moon introduced after the game was published. I am not even sure what they all are off the top of my head but have it all jotted down on a little scrap of paper in the game.

2) Have you ever told a little white lie regarding the availability of boardgames because a player is a sore loser/bad winner or otherwise sucks the fun out of the game?
Yes. My go to line is "I don't remember the rules and need to read them again before playing." Of course, I have never used that on any one reading this. If I said it, I meant it, really....

3) You have an unexpected expense of say $1,000 USD (or whatever is a large amount for you in your currency) and need some fast cash: Which game(s) from your collection would you sell that can raise the needed funds quickly?
To get to that amount quickly, I would probably sell Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition to get about half way there. Then sprinkle in a few things like Princes of the Renaissance, Fury of Dracula (second edition), maybe some Roads & Boats, probably the The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game collection, and whatever else I can find that is under played with an inflated price tag these days.

4) What game in your collection could no one ever pry away from you, no matter what?
Memoir '44. It is still my most played game and something I am really looking forward to playing with my sons.

5) What player colors, other then the standard, would you like to see more of in games?
These get some appearances, but I'd likes to see more orange and purple.

6) If you were a superhero/villain, what would your name be?
According to http://superhero.namegeneratorfun.com/, it should be Doctor Neutron... But I think I would want something like the Blue Horseshoe or Spirit of '76.

7) Look to your right: What do you see?
A stack of Mississippi Queens and Mississippi Queen: The Black Rosees that I was going to do something with, a stack of books that need to go back on the shelf, and some family pictures.

8) What is the weirdest thing that you have ever found while walking?
My current project is at the University of Illinois in Chicago and we walk a bit to get to meetings, to the parking lot, to the site. Once was a bird standing in the middle of the street, perfectly upright with its beak open, completely dead. Another time, a squirrel was also dead in a running position. Maybe not that weird but can't help to think there is some animal medusa running around or some taxidermist dropping his products around campus.

9) What is the best thing (quality/trait/advice/heirloom/etc.) that was given to you from your mother?
Though sometimes it is severely tested, an attitude of making the best out of what life hands you. She was in a car accident almost a decade and a half ago where they only gave her a 6% chance of living (due to some internal injuries that were not caught until later). She still has stroke-like conditions where she only has a few words she can say and is mostly paralyzed on one side. But she leads as normal of a life as she can and has enjoyed 2 of her kids weddings and is active with her 3 grandsons.

10) How would you describe your sense of humor? How would others describe it?
In my mind: a rapier wit, quippy and dry. Others: annoying.

This would have to be Mr. Jack. I am horrible at these types of games because i always give myself away. However, this is such a fun game!

1) What is your favorite "house rule" for a game you play?
We generally don't have house rules when we play games. We like to play as they were written.

2) Have you ever told a little white lie regarding the availability of boardgames because a player is a sore loser/bad winner or otherwise sucks the fun out of the game?
no - i generally only play games with my husband. He knows what games are available on our shelf.

3) You have an unexpected expense of say $1,000 USD (or whatever is a large amount for you in your currency) and need some fast cash: Which game(s) from your collection would you sell that can raise the needed funds quickly?
ummm - i don't think i can sell my games.

4) What game in your collection could no one ever pry away from you, no matter what?
I have a tie for two games for this answer - Triassic Terror and Defenders of the Realm

5) What player colors, other then the standard, would you like to see more of in games?
PURPLE

6) If you were a superhero/villain, what would your name be?
i honestly don't know for this one.

7) Look to your right: What do you see?
a can of pepsi

8) What is the weirdest thing that you have ever found while walking?
well, living in the city there are lots of weird things, but honestly nothing comes to mind. I can however remember finding $20....that was pretty awesome!

9) What is the best thing (quality/trait/advice/heirloom/etc.) that was given to you from your mother?
my patience

10) How would you describe your sense of humor? How would others describe it?
i feel i have a geeky sense of humor. Others may see that as just annoying.

0) As your geeklist entry, select the game you've lost the most but still enjoy.
There are games that I lost more often, but with this one... I mostly play this with my mom and so far I managed to win exactly once!

1) What is your favorite "house rule" for a game you play?
The Shadowfax card from Lord of the Rings counts as having 3 symbols. Because Shadowfax!

2) Have you ever told a little white lie regarding the availability of boardgames because a player is a sore loser/bad winner or otherwise sucks the fun out of the game?
Could be. I honestly don't remember.

3) You have an unexpected expense of say $1,000 USD (or whatever is a large amount for you in your currency) and need some fast cash: Which game(s) from your collection would you sell that can raise the needed funds quickly?
The question is worded incorrectly.
The games I would sell are not the ones that would generate the needed funds quickly.
It should read: The games I should sell!

With that in mind:
Star Wars: The Queen's Gambit, Fireball Island, RoboRally with RoboRally: Armed and Dangerous and RoboRally: Grand Prix and a full set of Netrunner cards including both Proteus and Classic.

4) What game in your collection could no one ever pry away from you, no matter what?
Gorkamorka
It's spread out all over. You'd take far too long to gather everything up.

5) What player colors, other then the standard, would you like to see more of in games?
*shrugs*
Dunno. Don't really care. Sorry.

6) If you were a superhero/villain, what would your name be?
According to that Super Hero Name Generator linked above, I'd be The Time Master... So I guess my nemesis is the Doctor?

But if I could be anything, I'd be Da Ork.
Noshrok Grimskull, the Harrowed Ork Huckster.
That's me.

7) Look to your right: What do you see?
This:

8) What is the weirdest thing that you have ever found while walking?
A #5 billard/pool ball.

9) What is the best thing (quality/trait/advice/heirloom/etc.) that was given to you from your mother?
There are soooo many things I could list here...

But probably this: "Be yourself."

10) How would you describe your sense of humor? How would others describe it?
I'd say well-developed. Others might disagree...

Bonus) What question should be asked on the next Geeklist?
What's the most you paid for a single game? (Counting in expansions and OOP games you bought on eBay, but not CCGs as that can get ridiculous)

0) The game you've lost the most but still enjoy.

I'm not sure I could really say I enjoy this as much as "will play it" since the reason I lose the most is because of the high luck factor.

1) What is your favorite "house rule" for a game you play?

Open information in any co-op.

2) Have you ever told a little white lie regarding the availability of board games because a player is a sore loser/bad winner or otherwise sucks the fun out of the game?

No, but I once told my wife that a game was in our sleeping baby's closet so we could play a better game.

3) You have an unexpected expense of say $1,000 and need some fast cash: Which game(s) from your collection would you sell that can raise the needed funds quickly?

I don't know if my whole collection could really muster that kind of cash.

4) What game in your collection could no one ever pry away from you, no matter what?

I guess Pandemic, I prefer the original OOP version with art by Josh Cappel, and my copy's been pimped out a bit and I have plenty of ideas for future pimping as well.

5) What player colors, other then the standard, would you like to see more of in games?

I don't really have a player color anymore, so as long as a game has blue, yellow, orange, or purple I'm usually good. But I would like to see some different shades of green. Usually games have a gross dark hue and I prefer a little more saturated, lighter tone to my greens.

6) If you were a superhero/villain, what would your name be?

The Amazing Monotone. My wife made up a series of comics for me when we were first dating.

7) Look to your right: What do you see?

Couch pillows, my cell phone, and an empty glass.

8) What is the weirdest thing that you have ever found while walking?

When I was a kid I found a Barbie minivan full of Ninja Turtles and G.I. Joes. I knew all the kids in our community and none of them laid claim to it.

9) What is the best thing (quality/trait/advice/heirloom/etc.) that was given to you from your mother?

Love of reading

10) How would you describe your sense of humor? How would others describe it?

Expansive, I can find humor in most anything.
I'm pretty shy in person so I'm not sure much of my sense of humor comes across.

Bonus) What question should be asked on the next Geeklist?

First game?

My wife is 5-0 against me ... the only game we've played where I haven't scored at least 1 win.

1) What is your favorite "house rule" for a game you play? submitted by: Alan D. Ernstein
I'm not sure I have one for any of my games. In one of my groups there are probably a few, can't think of them now though.

2) Have you ever told a little white lie regarding the availability of boardgames because a player is a sore loser/bad winner or otherwise sucks the fun out of the game? submitted by: exparrot
No. Just won't play with that person.

3) You have an unexpected expense of say $1,000 USD (or whatever is a large amount for you in your currency) and need some fast cash: Which game(s) from your collection would you sell that can raise the needed funds quickly?
I guess the most valuable OOP ones ... Roads and Boats, Java, San Juan,

4) What game in your collection could no one ever pry away from you, no matter what? submitted by: cvillekc
Lords of Baseball and Air Baron

5) What player colors, other then the standard, would you like to see more of in games? submitted by: Demon Jim
My wife likes purple. I play blue. Any other color doesn't matter to me.

6) If you were a superhero/villain, what would your name be? submitted by: powerhouse
My name is Lefty and I AM a super villain.

7) Look to your right: What do you see? submitted by: chockle
game shelf.

8) What is the weirdest thing that you have ever found while walking? submitted by: crazedyeti
When I was in college, my fraternity was doing an adopt a highway and we found some strange stuff. The worst was probably the bead strand that looked like a weird sex device. We didn't pick that up. Gloves or no gloves.

9) What is the best thing (quality/trait/advice/heirloom/etc.) that was given to you from your mother?
price comparing.

10) How would you describe your sense of humor? How would others describe it?
I think I have a dry wit. You'd have to ask others what they think.

I couldn't part with any of our games, besides, I'm not sure if my collection is up to $1000 yet.

6) If you were a superhero/villain, what would your name be? Vic Toombs

I've played Container five times and have never won. It's been several years since I last played though, so it's one I'd like to get back out to the table sometime soon.

Quote:
1) What is your favorite "house rule" for a game you play?
Changing the endgame conditions for Pirates of the Spanish Main to give the game far more depth, rather than just being a simple race for treasure.

Quote:
2) Have you ever told a little white lie regarding the availability of boardgames because a player is a sore loser/bad winner or otherwise sucks the fun out of the game?
Every sore loser/winner I've encountered has either been someone that was asked to play but otherwise has no interest in boardgames, or someone that is already well aware of the hobby and already knows where to find games. Either way, telling them that certain games were hard to find wouldn't make much difference.

Quote:
3) You have an unexpected expense of say $1,000 USD (or whatever is a large amount for you in your currency) and need some fast cash: Which game(s) from your collection would you sell that can raise the needed funds quickly?
None. There are plenty of other ways to raise money quickly without selling off something that I'd only want to buy back soon after.

Quote:
4) What game in your collection could no one ever pry away from you, no matter what?
High Frontier, with the expansion and the poster maps.

Quote:
5) What player colors, other then the standard, would you like to see more of in games?
Anything outside of the usual red, green, blue, yellow is neat to see. Transparent pieces (like the Carcasonne Phantoms) are often cool, but otherwise nothing specific comes to mind.

Quote:
6) If you were a superhero/villain, what would your name be?
Hank Scorpio

Quote:
7) Look to your right: What do you see?
My oldest daughter singing and dancing along to "Let It Go" from Frozen, which they're watching right now.

Quote:
8) What is the weirdest thing that you have ever found while walking?
"Weird" may not be the best term to use, but this:

Quote:
9) What is the best thing (quality/trait/advice/heirloom/etc.) that was given to you from your mother?
Not sure. I'll have to think about that one...

Quote:
10) How would you describe your sense of humor? How would others describe it?
Slightly odd (which in reality means perfectly normal); probably the same.

Quote:
Bonus) What question should be asked on the next Geeklist?
When you take your favorite game out and open the box, what is the first component you see inside? (In other words, what do you keep on top: the rulebook, the board, or something else?)

1) What is your favorite "house rule" for a game you play?
In Arkham Horror we play that you ALWAYS have an encounter when you go shopping to the science building get healing etc. This makes the game more interesting- you'll never know what will happen! Plus, it lets us use the encounters at places we don't normally have encounters at. Who goes and just spends turn at the hospital not doing anything in this game?

2) Have you ever told a little white lie regarding the availability of boardgames because a player is a sore loser/bad winner or otherwise sucks the fun out of the game?

Oh yes. We had these neighbors who lived across the hall from us in our old apartment who would always want to play Carcassonne (their favorite game) but they would only play "friendly" Carc where you could NOT put a piece on anyone else but could only put it in a place where you had something or where you were going to put a meeple. So I told them we gave it to our friends just so they'd stop bugging us to play. Then they bought Ticket to Ride. And I've hated that game ever since.

3) You have an unexpected expense of say $1,000 USD (or whatever is a large amount for you in your currency) and need some fast cash: Which game(s) from your collection would you sell that can raise the needed funds quickly?

$1000 bucks? Wow. I'd sell Marvel Heroes, Battles of Westeros, Tide of Iron, Star Trek Fleet Captains, Trias, Axis and Allies, and some other random games. I'd be hard pressed to get 1k I think.

4) What game in your collection could no one ever pry away from you, no matter what?

Arkham Horror. It was the first game I played with my (then future) wife, was her first experience at gaming besides Uno, and made her realize that not only is she a big nerd but that she could love someone else who was a big nerd too.

5) What player colors, other then the standard, would you like to see more of in games?

If this is a standard color forgive me, but I love the brown in Catan. I always play Brown. If that wasn't an option, then I'd go for a nice cyan. It's my favorite shade of blue.

6) If you were a superhero/villain, what would your name be?

Hmmmm.............. Destructor. We call my son that (he's 18 months old) and I like it. Plus, are you good or bad? WHO KNOWS!!!

7) Look to your right: What do you see?

My nightstand, a fan, wallet, a door, lamp, some books, and a mini trash can. And my front door way down the hallway.

8) What is the weirdest thing that you have ever found while walking?

Not necessarily found but there was this older guy in my neighborhood in Texas who would walk around naked. I was 10. SURPRISE! Weirdest thing I found.... hmm. I found a bong once. That's probably it.

9) What is the best thing (quality/trait/advice/heirloom/etc.) that was given to you from your mother?

My desire to read and educate myself.

10) How would you describe your sense of humor? How would others describe it?

I've got a fast wit with a lot of cutting remarks to it. Others would probably describe it as OH FOR THE LOVE PLEASE SHUT UP AND STOP TALKING. Something like that.

Question Idea:
If you could captain any version of the Enterprise (original, A, B, All Good things, Future, etc) which would it be and why?

0) As your geeklist entry, select the game you've lost the most but still enjoy. (Or if you are a traditionalist and refuse to accept change, select the game you'd most like to play.)
I don't keep track of win/loss data and nothing jumps immediately to mind as being that game, so I'm going to go with a "most want to play" choice. This weekend is Marcon, and Looney Labs are the gaming guests of honor. I'm hoping that today I get a chance to play Caldera against Kristin Looney, the game's designer.

1) What is your favorite "house rule" for a game you play?
I do play with a few house rules. I don't know that I have a favorite. One that springs to mind because I played the game recently: in Inkognito, if you get three white marbles you get to roll again.

2) Have you ever told a little white lie regarding the availability of boardgames because a player is a sore loser/bad winner or otherwise sucks the fun out of the game?
No.

3) You have an unexpected expense of say $1,000 USD (or whatever is a large amount for you in your currency) and need some fast cash: Which game(s) from your collection would you sell that can raise the needed funds quickly?
I don't have a lot of valuable games, so that would probably be a large chunk of my collection. Maybe I would sell something else instead.

4) What game in your collection could no one ever pry away from you, no matter what?
Yeah, hmm, I don't know. How about my copy of To Court the King. Tom Lehmann autographed the King (and the box).

5) What player colors, other then the standard, would you like to see more of in games?
I usually play blue, but I find myself sometimes wanting to play purple if I can't get blue. Or white. I'm not sure either of those would qualify as non-standard since they're both in a lot of games, but they're not as ubiquitous as blue, red, or green.

6) If you were a superhero/villain, what would your name be?
Super healing.

7) Look to your right: What do you see?
The DVD for Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog.

8) What is the weirdest thing that you have ever found while walking?
When I was in high school, I once found a $20 lying against the curb, which is only weird in context because it was the middle of the block on a residential street.

9) What is the best thing (quality/trait/advice/heirloom/etc.) that was given to you from your mother?
I can't think of any one thing. Not even a joke answer.

10) How would you describe your sense of humor? How would others describe it?
I like humor that is absurd, unusual, or subtle. I imagine that a friend would say, "He likes humour that is absurd, unusual, or subtle." (My imagined friend is British, or perhaps Canadian).

0) As your geeklist entry, select the game you've lost the most but still enjoy. (Or if you are a traditionalist and refuse to accept change, select the game you'd most like to play.)
When we play Rattus I tend to play around with the roles too much. I just want to try everything. As a result my wife, who is much more conservative schools me.

1) What is your favorite "house rule" for a game you play?
With Citadels we like to use the common house rule of playing to 1 fewer district so the game is a more manageable length of time.

2) Have you ever told a little white lie regarding the availability of boardgames because a player is a sore loser/bad winner or otherwise sucks the fun out of the game?
No, can't say I've ever done this. I'm confused why someone would, let them buy it and annoy others with it, I just won't play it with them.

3) You have an unexpected expense of say $1,000 USD (or whatever is a large amount for you in your currency) and need some fast cash: Which game(s) from your collection would you sell that can raise the needed funds quickly?
I've come to find selling games tends to be a poor money-making endeavor. Dealing with all the packing, shipping, and giving BGG their cut just whittles away at the money you're making. If I could sell them locally I'd throw every game on my trade list and then some into the sale.

4) What game in your collection could no one ever pry away from you, no matter what?
I think Lord of the Rings simply because it's been so well-loved, has my history of wins written in it. And it's my favorite game.

5) What player colors, other then the standard, would you like to see more of in games?
Anything unique or obscure is my favorite. If I have to pick just one, more purple would be excellent.

6) If you were a superhero/villain, what would your name be?
The Blot

7) Look to your right: What do you see?
A night stand holding a telephone, a lamp, an alarm clock, some medicine, and my wife's makeup.

8) What is the weirdest thing that you have ever found while walking?
Nothing jumps out at me, I just can't think of an answer.

9) What is the best thing (quality/trait/advice/heirloom/etc.) that was given to you from your mother?
I can only say 1? Well Mom helped develop my love of games. She also gave me my favorite game as a gift.

10) How would you describe your sense of humor? How would others describe it?
I would describe it as sarcastic and wry. Others would describe it as corny like a dorky dad.

Bonus) What question should be asked on the next Geeklist?
I'll try to add on later.

0) As your geeklist entry, select the game you've lost the most but still enjoy. (Or if you are a traditionalist and refuse to accept change, select the game you'd most like to play.) submitted by: DaMullet

Well, I generally am a traditionalist I suppose, but the reality in this case is that I have no idea what game I've lost the most so I'm going with the game I most want to play. Thought it might happen Sunday but sadly, the game day was cancelled.

1) What is your favorite "house rule" for a game you play? submitted by: Alan D. Ernstein

Not sure as I generally prefer to play games as designed...probably that whole traditionalist thing again...

although...after reading my friend Bruce's suggestion for this I must agree as well - Tales of Arabian Nights: do not set goals at the start of the game. First player to a total of twenty points may end the game normally.

2) Have you ever told a little white lie regarding the availability of boardgames because a player is a sore loser/bad winner or otherwise sucks the fun out of the game? submitted by: exparrot

No. I'd prefer if a sore loser/winner gets his/her own copy so I don't have to play with him/her again.

3) You have an unexpected expense of say $1,000 USD (or whatever is a large amount for you in your currency) and need some fast cash: Which game(s) from your collection would you sell that can raise the needed funds quickly?

Star Wars: The Queen's Gambit, Myth Captain level pledge

4) What game in your collection could no one ever pry away from you, no matter what? submitted by: cvillekc

I'm sure for the right reason that someone could pry away any game in my collection. However, I would likely most resist giving up my remaining Martin Wallace games, Splotter games, and set of games by Karl Heinz-Schmiel.

5) What player colors, other then the standard, would you like to see more of in games? submitted by: Demon Jim

But that would be nontraditional!

6) If you were a superhero/villain, what would your name be? submitted by: powerhouse

Dang, wasn't there something going around Facebook a few months ago about your superpower and name? Oh well..how about...Rolling Thunder?

7) Look to your right: What do you see? submitted by: chockle

My window with a brown curtain.

8) What is the weirdest thing that you have ever found while walking? submitted by: crazedyeti

Best thing was a $100 bill. Nothing comes to mind for weirdest thing.

9) What is the best thing (quality/trait/advice/heirloom/etc.) that was given to you from your mother?

My favorite thing is an antique icebox fridge that mom knew I really liked and had dad include it in the will for me. Sadly, it is still located on the east coast while I live on the west coast. I'm most thankful that she was always there for me.

10) How would you describe your sense of humor? How would others describe it?

My humor tends to be more dry/sarcastic in nature. However, I generally don't display humor unless I feel comfortable with the others.

I could have picked a number of games, but this is the one which stood out. I don't recall ever winning a game of this, but it is still a fantastic game. I don't get to play often enough.

1) What is your favorite "house rule" for a game you play? submitted by: Alan D. Ernstein

I'm not sure there is one I like; we tend not to use them unless they fix something.

2) Have you ever told a little white lie regarding the availability of boardgames because a player is a sore loser/bad winner or otherwise sucks the fun out of the game? submitted by: exparrot

Only when playing with non-gamers, who generally just don't enjoy the same type of games I do. I tend not to lie about availability; I usually infer the game might not be to their tastes - which of course neither of us can possibly know until they have tried it.

3) You have an unexpected expense of say $1,000 USD (or whatever is a large amount for you in your currency) and need some fast cash: Which game(s) from your collection would you sell that can raise the needed funds quickly?

I would sell the games I thought would get me the money most quickly; this is in my experience a rather hit-and-miss solution to raising money. A good portion of the games I used to own have been sold on for this very reason, when I suffered a spell of unemployment.

The first games to go should be the "grail games", as they will raise the most. I sold a copy of my beloved Age of Steam, the sought-after (at least it used to be)Full Metal Planète and first editions of Kingmaker and Dune; amongst many others.

I did not ask for grail money though, as I needed to raise cash quickly.

And don't worry, I still kept a lot of stuff back - mainly those I thought wouldn't sell at all, but also stuff I play!

4) What game in your collection could no one ever pry away from you, no matter what? submitted by: cvillekc

There are a few; my remaining copy of Age of Steam is one, Steam is another, my original Alea copy of Puerto Rico, my original HiG copy of Goa and my copy of Eclipse all immediately spring to mind.

Pretty much anything I rate a 9 or 10 is staying; and you will have a hard time getting me to part with the 8s.

5) What player colors, other then the standard, would you like to see more of in games? submitted by: Demon Jim

What is "the standard"?

Not enough orange I suppose; green is my favourite, but is almost certainly standard.

6) If you were a superhero/villain, what would your name be? submitted by: powerhouse

Doombar!

7) Look to your right: What do you see? submitted by: chockle

You have chosen the most uninteresting direction; a wall.

8) What is the weirdest thing that you have ever found while walking? submitted by: crazedyeti

An interdimensional portal. It may have just been a puddle to everybody else, but I knew different.

9) What is the best thing (quality/trait/advice/heirloom/etc.) that was given to you from your mother?

Life.

10) How would you describe your sense of humor? How would others describe it?

I would describe it as sometimes dark, sometimes dry and often silly. Others would describe it as crap.

Bonus) What question should be asked on the next Geeklist?

What was the first game mechanism you experienced that made you appreciate how clever or innovative games can be?

[q="ColtsFan76"]0) As your geeklist entry, select the game you've lost the most but still enjoy. (Or if you are a traditionalist and refuse to accept change, select the game you'd most like to play.)

I've played this at every reunion of my Dad's side of the family since 1984. I'm sure I've lost this game more times than any other.

1) What is your favorite "house rule" for a game you play?

In Lords of Waterdeep we play with the house rule that you can choose to take a face down quest card instead of a face up one.

2) Have you ever told a little white lie regarding the availability of boardgames because a player is a sore loser/bad winner or otherwise sucks the fun out of the game?

No, I don't think so.

3) You have an unexpected expense of say $1,000 USD (or whatever is a large amount for you in your currency) and need some fast cash: Which game(s) from your collection would you sell that can raise the needed funds quickly?

I guess I'd start with my Crokinole board.

4) What game in your collection could no one ever pry away from you, no matter what?

It would take a medical disaster happening to one of my kids to part with my copy of The Gothic Game.

5) What player colors, other then the standard, would you like to see more of in games?

Purple

6) If you were a superhero/villain, what would your name be?

HoosierMan, protector of the state of Indiana, and I lose all superpowers when I cross state lines.

7) Look to your right: What do you see?

My front door

8) What is the weirdest thing that you have ever found while walking?

I've no answer for this.

9) What is the best thing (quality/trait/advice/heirloom/etc.) that was given to you from your mother?

A lifetime full of love.

10) How would you describe your sense of humor? How would others describe it?

Me- delightfully sharp. Others? ask them.

Bonus) What question should be asked on the next Geeklist?

Whats the highest ranked game that you rate a 5?

I seem to loss this 90% of the time when I play with my wife. I still enjoy it's simplicity and can relax while playing.

1) What is your favorite "house rule" for a game you play?
I honestly can't think of one off my head. Maybe the one where I always let somebody else start?

2) Have you ever told a little white lie regarding the availability of boardgames because a player is a sore loser/bad winner or otherwise sucks the fun out of the game?
luckily, I haven't run into that person.

3) You have an unexpected expense of say $1,000 USD (or whatever is a large amount for you in your currency) and need some fast cash: Which game(s) from your collection would you sell that can raise the needed funds quickly?
Ambush! is the only game that would be worth anything that I don't enjoy playing. Still not enough to cover that bill tho.

4) What game in your collection could no one ever pry away from you, no matter what?
I would have to go with Long Shot. One of the first games I got that I REALLY enjoy playing and the rest of my extended family loves to play as well.

5) What player colors, other then the standard, would you like to see more of in games?
How about tan? I'm not good with colors.

6) If you were a superhero/villain, what would your name be?
lol... I can't think of anything! lol Revenge.

7) Look to your right: What do you see?
A folding chair leaning on the wall.

8) What is the weirdest thing that you have ever found while walking?
Condom

9) What is the best thing (quality/trait/advice/heirloom/etc.) that was given to you from your mother?
Strong will.

10) How would you describe your sense of humor? How would others describe it?
wide (I laugh at a lot of things). My wife says: goofy.

1) What is your favorite "house rule" for a game you play? submitted by: Alan D. Ernstein

I play Tichu with German tournament rules: No grand Tichu, victory point system, dragon remains with me if it was the last card played in the round.
Ok. Let the witch hunt begin.

2) Have you ever told a little white lie regarding the availability of boardgames because a player is a sore loser/bad winner or otherwise sucks the fun out of the game? submitted by: exparrot

I don't think that I have.

3) You have an unexpected expense of say $1,000 USD (or whatever is a large amount for you in your currency) and need some fast cash: Which game(s) from your collection would you sell that can raise the needed funds quickly?

That is hard to answer. The only games I own which are remotely close to being worth that much are
Auf Fotosafari in Ombagassa, brass edition and
Don Q. und der Dreh mit den Windmühlen
None of these I would be likely to let go. I would probably sell the large Lego Star destroyer (3100+ pieces) instead.

4) What game in your collection could no one ever pry away from you, no matter what? submitted by: cvillekc

Tichu is a game I always want to have in the house. But as I own about a dozen copies, you'd probably be able to pry away one of them from me.

5) What player colors, other then the standard, would you like to see more of in games? submitted by: Demon Jim

Purple. I play green, but a bunch of other people around me prefer green as well. Having purple would be a good alternative for me.

6) If you were a superhero/villain, what would your name be? submitted by: powerhouse

Why, HilkMAN, of course.

7) Look to your right: What do you see? submitted by: chockle

A window sill with a cup and some stationary stuff and two tomato plants. Münchhausen Street in Göttingen, Germany. Five cars and two bicycles. Some plants. Houses number 25 and 27 across the street. Rain.

8) What is the weirdest thing that you have ever found while walking? submitted by: crazedyeti

Not sure. I remember finding a penny from the Nazi era in a playground once. It had taken the color of the surrounding gravel over the decades and was hard to spot. Not particularly weird, but somewhat unusual. I am sure I have found weirder things, just cannot think of any right now.

9) What is the best thing (quality/trait/advice/heirloom/etc.) that was given to you from your mother?

My mother passed away when I was three, and I have very few memories of her. I guess I will have to go with "my life".

10) How would you describe your sense of humor? How would others describe it?

I am rarely serious. Up to the point where it bothers my older daughter. I don't know how to describe my humour, but I love weird things. Here's a joke I recently heard and which I like:

Q: What's a tomato in a cape?
A: Supertomato!
Q: What's a banana in a cape?
Spoiler (click to reveal)
A: A banana dressed up as Supertomato!

I feel kind of abashed listing this one, since it's my own damn game. And I do manage to win it frequently. Probably it's here mainly because it is the game I've been playing 90% of the time since I started designing it in November 2012.

1) What is your favorite "house rule" for a game you play? Shadows Over Camelot - we don't use the traitor unless every person playing has won the game at least once.

2) Have you ever told a little white lie regarding the availability of boardgames because a player is a sore loser/bad winner or otherwise sucks the fun out of the game? Sort of. Not about availability, but I have pretended to feel "under the weather" when I didn't feel up to a marathon gaming session against a particular person, and thus forced the choice of a light, short, game instead.

3) You have an unexpected expense of say $1,000 USD (or whatever is a large amount for you in your currency) and need some fast cash: Which game(s) from your collection would you sell that can raise the needed funds quickly? All of my games are precious snowflakes and it is a major bone of contention between me and my wife that I can never part with any of them.

4) What game in your collection could no one ever pry away from you, no matter what? my almost-complete set of the Advanced Squad Leader stuff. (Armies of Oblivion, when will I ever own YOU?!)

5) What player colors, other then the standard, would you like to see more of in games? white, violet, and gray. We have a color blind player and green, red, orange, and yellow are major problems.

6) If you were a superhero/villain, what would your name be? Maestro. I actually know this because I used him as my superhero when testing the Superworld game, and then as an NPC villain when running Superworld for other players.

7) Look to your right: What do you see? six solidly packed shelves of roleplaying games - 8 feet high and 3 feet wide.

8) What is the weirdest thing that you have ever found while walking? a live snapping turtle

9) What is the best thing (quality/trait/advice/heirloom/etc.) that was given to you from your mother? Stick up for what is right regardless of scorn or unpopularity.

10) How would you describe your sense of humor? How would others describe it? I would say I am quick-witted and dry. My granddaughter says I'm "silly".

Bonus) What question should be asked on the next Geeklist? What is the oldest game you still play?

0) As your geeklist entry, select the game you've lost the most but still enjoy.

I'm rubbish at this game, yet I love to play it whenever asked. I can't seem to break out of my bad habits with this one!

1) What is your favorite "house rule" for a game you play?

We have a mercy rule in Clubs where the player who goes out last gets half their club points, rounded down. It's a mercy thing - I don't think anyone's scored more than 2 points that way.

2) Have you ever told a little white lie regarding the availability of boardgames because a player is a sore loser/bad winner or otherwise sucks the fun out of the game?

No, can't say I've ever done this.

3) You have an unexpected expense of say $1,000 USD (or whatever is a large amount for you in your currency) and need some fast cash: Which game(s) from your collection would you sell that can raise the needed funds quickly?

It's highly unlikely selling games would be our solution. Sadly increased debt would be what we'd have to turn to. That being said, anything on my trade pile would be fair game for selling.

4) What game in your collection could no one ever pry away from you, no matter what?

I thought about this a bit and then realized that several games in my top 10 we have an online or app implementation available, so I could sacrifice the cardboard versions with a clear conscience. So scanning further down that list, I'd say Vegas Showdown. (There used to be a website where you could play it for free, but now I think you have to pay, if it's even still there.)

5) What player colors, other then the standard, would you like to see more of in games?

Definitely more purple.

6) If you were a superhero/villain, what would your name be?

The Skeleton

7) Look to your right: What do you see?

A sleeping cat, and the back of the couch.

8) What is the weirdest thing that you have ever found while walking?

It's hard to pin down one thing - when you live in a tourist town, you see more bizarre things in a day than you can imagine.

9) What is the best thing (quality/trait/advice/heirloom/etc.) that was given to you from your mother?

A love of reading. She instilled that in me at an early age.

10) How would you describe your sense of humor? How would others describe it?

I usually get "droll" or "sarcastic." Which is too bad, because I was going for "clever" or "witty."

Bonus) What question should be asked on the next Geeklist?

What unplayed game in your collection do you honestly think you'll never get around to playing? Why haven't you sold or traded it yet?

Asia Engulfed is technically the correct answer, and it would serve very well. I like that game a great deal, with some caveats (see below). And I lose it more often than I lose NT. Still, NT is my favorite game ever, and even though experienced players will usually beat me, I love every second of it every time I play.

DON'T PLAY THE 1941 SCENARIO IN ASIA ENGULFED!!!! Of all the Pacific War games I've played which make for a totally wonky game if the December 1939 turn is played out, none seems more ridiculous to me than AE.

No, but I have done that to avoid playing a game I didn't want to play.

I just auctioned off a bunch of games, for less than a grand. I think I could add OGRE, Where There is Discord and Third World War to the pile and reach that figure.

In the woods, in a place where the general public didn't walk, and very few people from the school I worked at ever walked, a pair of the Gargoyle sunglasses that Arnold wore in The Terminator. And I held on to those glasses for probably 3 years before I lost them.

9) What is the best thing (quality/trait/advice/heirloom/etc.) that was given to you from your mother?

My mother is a master at knowing about things that are going on in my life and giving me gifts that support my interests in those areas. Instead of a quarter under my pillow after a tooth came out, I got a trip to the corner store to buy a Marvel Comic. As a kid I read for hours and hours in bed. She gave me one Christmas a reading pillow and a light that clamped on to my bedpost, so I could reach up and turn the light off when I was finally so tired that I had to sleep. I didn't have to get out of bed, just turn the light off. As an adult, I made my living for about 6 months selling on eBay (never again). That Christmas, she gave me a packing tape gun and other packing / shipping supplies. She knew that I was in love with Strat-o-Matic Professional Basketball, and every Christmas I got the latest season's player cards, or the new edition of the game when they published a new one. More than anything though, I remember her buying me models. Tanks, planes, ships - anything military. One Christmas she got me an amazing model of the Yamato, but it was too complex for me and I never built it. She knew enough to realize I couldn't handle it and offered me the chance to throw it away, without her feeling guilty. The best example of that, though, is the sweet Tamiya Tiger I tank she got me for my birthday one year. It was the best model I ever built, the best work I ever did. And my nephews still sometimes play with that model. It looks like a tank wreck at this point, the treads are gone and the turret doesn't stay attached. The body is still intact though, the tread wheels still on, the turret still completely functional. And I built that model almost 35 years ago. So even though it's a coincidence, this is a good chance to say "Happy Mother's Day" mom. I love you and I appreciate all those gifts that you knew enough to get me without me knowing enough to ask for them.

0) As your geeklist entry, select the game you've lost the most but still enjoy. (Or if you are a traditionalist and refuse to accept change, select the game you'd most like to play.) submitted by: DaMullet This one is easy because I've played it so much, I must have lost at it the most of any game, even if I win 45% of the time (2-player, that is).
1) What is your favorite "house rule" for a game you play? submitted by: Alan D. Ernstein I think I'll go with the "you must move the commodity tokens up as you win auctions" (not after the round is over) in Medici.
2) Have you ever told a little white lie regarding the availability of boardgames because a player is a sore loser/bad winner or otherwise sucks the fun out of the game? submitted by: exparrot I don't understand the question in terms of "availability of boardgames." Like, I tell them they can't purchase the game at their local store? I don't see why I'd care after they leave and never get invited back.
3) You have an unexpected expense of say $1,000 USD (or whatever is a large amount for you in your currency) and need some fast cash: Which game(s) from your collection would you sell that can raise the needed funds quickly? Sadly, I've already run through that list several times, so there isn't much of value left.
4) What game in your collection could no one ever pry away from you, no matter what? submitted by: cvillekc I can't think of any mass produced game. Now, a child's prototype or something like that would be tough, but not impossible, to get away from me.
5) What player colors, other then the standard, would you like to see more of in games? submitted by: Demon Jim I consider "normal" to be Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, Orange, Purple, Black, White, Brown, and "Natural." That doesn't leave a lot other than maybe pink, which I really don't want.
6) If you were a superhero/villain, what would your name be? submitted by: powerhouse I really don't like funny book stuff (comics, in some parlance, "graphic novel" in other vocabs).
7) Look to your right: What do you see? submitted by: chockle My wife, just beyond a stack of new Timeline/Cardline games.
8) What is the weirdest thing that you have ever found while walking? submitted by: crazedyeti We went out with the cub scout den to clean up a fairly well-used local park's trail (short trail near a boat ramp) and came upon cookware, a fire ring, sleeping bag, and makeshift lean-to. Oh, wait, while geocaching, we found what I thought was the cache (a medium sized duffle bag), but when we opened it, we found a bottle of vodka, women's underwear, and someone's social security papers.
9) What is the best thing (quality/trait/advice/heirloom/etc.) that was given to you from your mother? The love of Jeopardy (she was so excited back in 1964 when she heard about this new game show).
10) How would you describe your sense of humor? How would others describe it? Not in line with the silly humor of most of today's movies. Others: invisible.

0) As your geeklist entry, select the game you've lost the most but still enjoy. (Or if you are a traditionalist and refuse to accept change, select the game you'd most like to play.)

I love Through the Ages, but inevitably I start enjoying just developing my civilization and I forget to work on scoring points. Maybe one day I'll learn to focus.

1) What is your favorite "house rule" for a game you play?

I can't think of any. I avoid house rules if at all possible. Perhaps the opposite of a house rule is that I play Tichu counterclockwise, the way it says to in the rules. This causes consternation in some of the groups in which I play.

2) Have you ever told a little white lie regarding the availability of boardgames because a player is a sore loser/bad winner or otherwise sucks the fun out of the game?

Yes. Usually involving saying we've already done the rules explanation or started the game or something like that.

3) You have an unexpected expense of say $1,000 USD (or whatever is a large amount for you in your currency) and need some fast cash: Which game(s) from your collection would you sell that can raise the needed funds quickly?

I don't have any super-expensive games, so to get to $1000, I'd need to sell a lot of them. Which I wouldn't. There are less painful ways to get money.

4) What game in your collection could no one ever pry away from you, no matter what?

Snit's Revenge. I've owned it since the 80s. I enjoyed it then, and both of my kids have gone through extended streaks where they've loved it.

5) What player colors, other then the standard, would you like to see more of in games?

Is purple non-standard? If so, then that. If not, then plaid.

6) If you were a superhero/villain, what would your name be?

Check my user name.

7) Look to your right: What do you see?

A dishwasher on which sits a freshly baked rhubarb pie.

8) What is the weirdest thing that you have ever found while walking?

An ostrich. In Michigan. I was living in a rural area south of Grand Rapids, and I was taking my 1-year-old son out in the baby jogger while I exercised. We had just headed out, and we were at the end of our driveway when, down the road a few dozen yards, an ostrich emerged from the corn field across the street. It looked both ways, and then two more ostriches emerged flanking the first. They saw me and went running up the road in the opposite direction.

9) What is the best thing (quality/trait/advice/heirloom/etc.) that was given to you from your mother?

The notion that my family is of primary importance.

10) How would you describe your sense of humor? How would others describe it?

Always on. Occasionally goes on too long.

Bonus) What question should be asked on the next Geeklist?

Other than the money, why do you stay at your current job?

I have lost every game I've ever played against my fiancee yet I still find the game very enjoyable. Close 2nd was Forbidden Desert.

1) What is your favorite "house rule" for a game you play? submitted by: Alan D. Ernstein
We have house ruled any coop that makes you play with hidden information. Basically it's a bs rule so all info is available.

2) Have you ever told a little white lie regarding the availability of boardgames because a player is a sore loser/bad winner or otherwise sucks the fun out of the game? submitted by: exparrot
Not yet.

3) You have an unexpected expense of say $1,000 USD (or whatever is a large amount for you in your currency) and need some fast cash: Which game(s) from your collection would you sell that can raise the needed funds quickly?
None. Looks like I'm building a house out of games.

4) What game in your collection could no one ever pry away from you, no matter what? submitted by: cvillekc
Any game given to me as a gift by my fiancee.

5) What player colors, other then the standard, would you like to see more of in games? submitted by: Demon Jim
Cool it's my question. Purple. My fiancee's favorite color is purple, and it's nonexistent in the majority of games. I would like it if she could use her color more often.

6) If you were a superhero/villain, what would your name be? submitted by: powerhouse
Hmmm I don't actually have an answer to this.

7) Look to your right: What do you see? submitted by: chockle
My fiancee in a San Antonio Spurs shirt watching the game.

8) What is the weirdest thing that you have ever found while walking? submitted by: crazedyeti
A small insect the size of a nickel dragging a huge tarantula the size of my fist. That's some scary shit. That bug must be hard core to take out a spider 10x it's size.

9) What is the best thing (quality/trait/advice/heirloom/etc.) that was given to you from your mother?
Trait. She has a big heart for others, which seems to be why I do as well.

10) How would you describe your sense of humor? How would others describe it?
Messed up and really messed up.

Bonus) What question should be asked on the next Geeklist?
