Geekway to the west has officially come and gone. This was by far the best one yet. I say this every year, but honestly the con keeps getting better and builds on its own momentum.

A few of the reaons for such awesomeness this year:

1) the design competition! Microgame speed dating with sponsorship and prizes. Congrats marshall and thx to kathleen for running!

2) battling tops tournament. If you weren't here you have no idea what you were missing. From guys ripping their shirts off, to little girls screAming at tops, to drinking beer through clown mask eye holes ( dont ask) it was (for me) the highlight of the con. Amazing time. Thx to chris darden and all for running.

3) trade table! Bring some games. When your name is called, go get some other games. Simple and well executed, thx jeff!

4) free game at the door for 4-day pass holders. What?! Thats crazy. I got zombicide, which basically paid for the price of admission. Thx miniature market and geekway!

5) crap load of prizes given away. Nuf said

6) play and win table. So let me get this straight. You guys are gonna open and punch a game for me, let me play it, and have a chance to win it? Unreal how cool this is. And PUBLISHERS please take note of the RUSH OF PEOPLE that went to vendors to buy games when this was over (if they didnt win the game they sampled). This is simply a win win and every con should have this.

7) bazaar room. One hour of intense buying and selling. Now i will say the fact that this was even available was a great start. There were some lessons learned this year, and this is going to be even bigger and better for next year, so see you in 365 days.

8) peppino tournament. Peppino IS and always has been ready. Are you? Doubt it. But tony was, gratz tony!

9) monkey madness tourny. Tim monkeyed around just enough to nab the highest grandest prizest of them all. Gratz tim!

10) 2 rooms and a boom. This was a social deduction game held outside on a beautiful saturday and run successfully by charles theel amoung others, great time!!

11) prototype/kickstarter community. One difference i saw was that a lot of people used the con as an opportunit to demo prortypes and pre production/published versions of games. This is AWESOME. its great to see this community growing.

12) vendors. Vendors are growing, and the vendors in attendance were awesome. All were offering great stuff at deeply cut discounts. Thx miniature market, game nite, and others.

13) library. A full library of games to check out. A well stocked one at that.

14) crokinole tourny!

I know im forgetting a lot of stuff ( please comment and remind me below).

For posterity, and so my great great great great great grandchildren can (in the year 3014) check to see what games i played at the con, ill leave them here for their perusal and yours.

Ive played this a lot, but never taught, and its a beast to teach/run, but one that i really adore. So taught it to some friends and we had a blast, although the game kicked our asses.

I ran these intermittently throughout the con and was on the play and win table.

This is my first game i'm publishing on kickstarter in june. Designed by charles theel, graphic art by mark sellemeyer.

These were always a ton of fun, shooting people, grabbing poker chips, and throwing cards at each other.

Every year, jason nachtrab and myself say 'we should dust off earth reborn', quite possibly one of the most ameritrashy games in existance.

This year we did in full force, and along with charles theel and marcus whitman had an absolute blast playing, thx to charles for running.

This game is so so good in just about every way. It does everything right. Ive never had a bad game of this.

We played the 4-player 'storm of swords' objective based expansion. This was everyones first time playing it, and we're already planning our next session (cue the theme music from the tv show that i kept launching into all weekend)

Social deduction game that was a surprise hit for me. Went on to teach it a few more times. A great little game! Miniature market was selling copies for $5 so a ton of people snatched it up.

If you know me you've probably heard me say a million times how this is my favorite game of all times and that i'd probably marry it and have offspring with it if i wasnt already married to my lovely wife debbie who hates games. Lol

Very glad i got a chance to play this, even got to teach (ahem indoctrinate) a newbie into learning and playing. I won narrowly as slaanesh.

Dont laugh, this game was AWESOME.

Its like descent-lite meets a much much better super dungeon explore with really cool wooden barrels and chests and stuff. Actually like hero quest now that i think about it.

scenerio driven, play against hoards of baddies, and was very difficult actually. A wonderfully fun streamlined dungeon crawl. If you were going to teach your kids how to crawl the dungeons, or wanted a fun quick romp, this is your game, super fun.

This one came from left field. Willy and i were looking to kill some time, and he taught me this little bitty card game with a whole ton of fun, in a short time frame. Do yourself a favor and check this gem out. If you even remotely enjoyed ascension, this game is made by the co designer of ascension, as well as mtg alums. Play it if you can find it.
