I had missed multiple Geekway events while living in the STL area for years.

After I moved to the land of GenCon I end up returning home for my first Geekway.

This is where I first step into the Geekway. I had arrived late on Thursday evening and missed registration, so I decided to get some rest and show up early Friday morning.

The tables were still filling up and the hall was empty, a few people had games out and were already starting. I sat down at this one as, I come from a racing family and I enjoyed it a nice filler but took some getting used to.

You play cards to move your car and draft the car behind you, as well as knock out other cards. Lots of "take that" and was fun with the 4 people I had sat down with to start Geekway.

One of the people I had sat down in the prior game, suggested we all play one Night Ultimate werewolf. It felt more like a puzzle game and the voting was a bit odd in that it had to be simultaneous.

I like what I played. Symmetrical card backs being was mentioned as something more card games need to do.

I miss the descent into the social collapse the village descends into with regular Werewolf but this has its place.

I decide it is time to head to the library and explore my options.

I check out ED at the play and win, but don't grab the expansion as I don't know how to play. I sign out the game grab a "players needed" meeple and head downstairs.

While reading the rules another player walks up and asks if I want to play, these player's wanted meeples work better than Brazilian BBQ places. I mentioned I did not know how to play and that he did.

I learned a good game and met some more even greater people.

Friend of the person I was playing Eminent Domain with showed up and I asked if they wanted to play a game I had brought with me. I had brought it in hopes of seeing what a 4 player game was like.

After me fumbling through the rules and clinging to the manual we get through a game of this. Oddly one of the geekway folks asked if I was a designer, I told them no I had bought the game on Kickstarter. But the game was so fiddly and took up so much room I can see where it would be mistaken for a prototype. With all my custom containers to help sort the pieces I can see where they may have mistaken me for peddling a game. =(

The people I played with said they liked it as a Worker placement but was too needy for space and really really fiddly, but had fun playing it.

Also the game is immensely different with 4 people.

I decide to forego lunch and down an energy bar and a water, and I explore around the tables to see what people are playing as well as peruse some of the vendor tables.

This was one of the games on my wishlist I really wanted to try, so I went back up to the library, and looked to check the game out.

Sadly it was not there, so I decided to look around the tables for a players wanted sign, and to my luck there was one. I asked if I may join and was invited into the party just as they were setting up.

I took a fighter class, and explained I did not know how to play but had a bit of RPG experience. I did not know what to expect if it would be like an RPG in a box or thunderstone-ish. We played one adventure, and I was not as impressed with the game as I originally thought. I thanked the group and left and looked for food as it was starting to to that point between lunch and dinner. The warrior geek needs food badly.

No more gaming tonight. It is right at that time of dinner and I actually caught some of the pitch car tournament, for some spectator entertainment.

I called my wife to see what she wanted to do for the evening and decided to end day 1 by heading to "The Hill" to the place we had our wedding reception "Favazzas/Rose of the Hill".

The evening was topped off with a Cardinals win (and Yadi tossing someone out at 2nd), and a Ted Drewe's run before heading home.

Only thing missing was a Crown Candy Giant BLT.

I miss seeing all the STL Cardinals gear, living in the land of 3 contested NL Central teams.

DAY 2:

I have made mental notes on what I want to play, rather than being overwhelmed the first day and dealing with trip fatigue.

I decide to grab Escape and setup and read it as the Saturday doors open up. I play as part of an "early bird" contest of heads or tails and see one of the folks I games with win one of the prizes in an amazing 7 tails flip win.

Remember people probability doesn't change with the number of flips.

Escape was a good gamer stretching game to get the gamer going. played 2 rounds of this 3 player and 4 player.

It did not hit me like I thought it would, was not the chaotic co-op I thought it would be. Still thanked everyone and moved to the next game.

I head upstairs to look for this one specifically, it had been out all Friday.

I finally see it in the Library and pick it up. A couple of other folks next to me make a disappointed awww sound that I had found it and they were oddly looking for the same game.

We make the easy decision to play it together and try the game out.

This was my Game of Geekway, I was surprised at how well this game was. I got slaughtered both times playing but we played multiple times. We missed the free stock pick rule after the scoring round. But the game was still awesome. We all joked about shelling the 150 on Amazon to get it, but we'll wait for the reprint.

This game truly is Alan R. Moons opus. It really was that good. One of the players has family they are meeting up with and we end up getting 4 players. We decide to stay grouped up and play some other games.

Some of the other folks I met mentioned playing Vinhos. (Yes I am not divulging names). I told them I owned Vinhos and was one of the more heavy games and the game has a tutorial not only for the game but for teaching other players. I actually start losing my voice going over all the rules.

I would dread having to try and learn the rule from the manual.

We play the game and it takes a while. Though I missed a few rules I think I did pretty well explaining all of what was there that I could. Some of the other player's family start filtering in. So we move to a filler game.

We play skulls and roses (red).

Neat little filler, I can totally see where this got invented with coasters at a bar. It is getting later and we all talk about parting for dinner.

We are starting to rack up some table time.

This was one final game of the night we all had on our list to try.

Oddly not the zing I expected from a Days of Wonder game. It looks pretty, but took a bit to figure out how we got roads and kept going back to the manual on how temples were to be treated.

We part our separate ways and head off to dinner, I am beat from 14 hours of gaming.

I end up heading back home for dinner, and start my packing to head home the next day.

I head back home stop at Deweys (Indy you really need to get one of these here) for a green lantern pizza. I spend some quality time with the extended family (her parents) and talk about doing this again next year. Can't wait to be back. We end the night getting in a game of good old reliable Ticket to Ride.

I actually do not make Sunday to try and beat the traffic back home to Indy. I felt pretty good meeting some new people and find out about some new games and seeing what I am going to buy (from geekway sponsors) in the future.

I will totally be back next year.
