The week from June 16th to June 22nd was a splendid wealth of gaming riches. Due to a rare confluence of scheduling I was able to play games with all kinds of wonderful people for SIX days of one given week by maneuvering my work schedule to cram into hours before and after gaming and there were many wonderful( and a few not-so-wonderful ) revelations and discoveries.--- Games that were on my radar, games from my unplayed and play 10x in 2014 lists, games I had never heard of, games I thought I wouldn't dig at all that I enjoyed immensely, and even the positive spin on the unpleasant revelations of realizing SOME people are ops DON'T want to play with anymore if at all possible making me appreciate everyone else that much more -- they were all part of the massive gaming week that was June 16 to June 21!! Instead of breaking them down into individual lists -- here is at last the report of the whole week !!!: ......... ( WARNING: periodic R-rated language and humor)

Playing this with Tony to start a rare gaming-in-daytime-not-on-a-holiday Monday, obviously started with good news/bad news-- Good News: Tony seemed to also like this new " cause" of mine and item on my 10x in 2014 list that can be described as " Card Yahtzee" -- Bad News : I had a single digit poor man, a rich man 9 negative points more than Tony's , and I wasn't even able to do the Doctor meld, hence I get colossally destroyed in Tony's first go-around at this game.

How awesome was it to come up in the conversation that Tony's fave game with regular cards was this!!! Because while I have played tons of Cribbage online in the past many, many years-- I hadn't played with a actual board and IRL since.. well... since Tony was probably a fetus.
I got EXTREMELY lucky in my cribs and card lays with tons of runs and three-of-a-kinds and I nearly even skunked him !! I so do not want to wait more than 25 years to play this with a real board and real pegs again !

Very old school AH combat with slightly differing powers-- Tony being the US with helicopter access and yours truly being the Reagan-Evil-Empire Commies. ((:: eye roll:: )) Despite its very minimal and not-at-all-fancy components of cardstock and cardboard and its perhaps slightly clunky mechanisms-- and despite old-school direct combat not remotely being my usual cup of tea-- this was a charming diversion.

We had to trade cards A LOT-- I never hardly ever got anything I needed to change my search rating -- had tons of combat/shoot cards I never could use for multiple turns and we actually for most of the beginning of the game had to trade cards MORE than play them !!

But eventually Tony's cards came together to continue to pummel my subs and take the resounding win. No matter how much such a game is never anything I would suggest or consider, I always love to play ANY old school AH game due to my renown nostalgia/obscurity fetish -- but I am glad this did not necessarily go on any longer, 90 mins or 2 hours of a game like this and I would perhaps have been bored out of my gourd. (But I especially had to adore the game-showy element of flipping the card to see the battle result--- especially in the horror that one of the ONLY times I got a significant hit on Tony's ships -- we flip the card.. and it says... DUD !!! DUD??? DUD?? I thought there were only numbers on that card section or " SUNK" DUD !! DUD !! WTF??? ((Causing me to loudly scream " AWW Shit.. DUD?? Dud my scrotum. ))

SCORES/RESULTS : Tony's Ships .. including a ship named after a state which we altered to become The U.S.S. Vagina -- destroy mine with only one mark of combat on one of his ships by the time I am destroyed. Complete with a double torpedo strike finish!

NOTABLE QUOTES :

As in the aforementioned : Dud!!! DUD???? Dud my scrotum.

One of the many wonderful gaming occurrences for this special week of gaming was that I got to play so many things on my radar for ages , that all turned out to be even more awesome than I expected! This little early Colvini and early masterpiece started this such a list of awesome games to come across the table.

I had played this years and years ago ONCE online and thought there was something cool there but I was trying to parse a very poorly translated rulebook ( back in the dark ages before I just always knew to go to BGG and look at the " real" translation and/or any Help FAQs or aids ) and I indeed did a VERY poor job of that, so I really had no effing idea what was going on.

Tony always being the excellent teacher that he is , shows me that this game mechanics-wise is actually terribly simple, but is indeed a masterpiece of amazing depth and thinking for a game someone can explain to you in 5 minutes.

The irony is that I am usually so atrocious at anything that has a spacial element, that with the area-involvement in this game, I should have hated it. But I loved it! ( Of course now I am only teasingly irate at Tony because .. well here goes another game I really must have and have to start hunting for since it's long out of print and terribly expensive !)

I adore hidden identity games.. and having a hidden identity mechanic mixed with a area-point scoring wouldn't once again look like my cup of tea at first blush-- butI loved this and I played it again ASAP ! (See Friday games further down this list.)

Tony of course takes the win... but I actually had a decent showing as our colors were only separated by one point before the chip count-- Tony has almost all the chips for the decisive 8 point win . I take the moral victory because I DID keep Tony from guessing my color -- he thought I was red the entire time when I was black!! Woo Hoo!!

Thank you Tony for another discovery !!

((( A foreshadowing aside, since this was the last of Tony and I's 2-p games before Aimee joined us after work, I just want to say how blessed I am again to have so many awesome, nifty people in my life to play all levels of 2-p games with who provide me hours of companionship and enjoyment -- Please keep this fact in mind when and if you read the final few games' stories in this list.)))

Aimee's first game joining us on this lovely Monday was this set collection under-the-radar dealio I am super-impassioned about now. I don't know that T and A were as over the moon about it as I am but they seemed to enjoy it.
And wow, is playing it with three instead of four ever a different experience with the RADICAL balance shifts with a different number of cards to make a palace and a different number of rounds !!

Aimee takes a win on the very last street-number three-point swing edging out Tony-- whereas I unfort. was always screwed on shields and turn order and NEVER got the colors I needed when I wanted , making this another instance of where the teacher plays the worst game ever of his experience in the game so far.

Another nice discovery!! I wasn't as over the moon about this as I was about Clans, but this is a wonderful little under-the-radar game once again in a theme I usually suck royally at : civilization building. I also usually am not the best card draft planner in the world, however sometimes I do indeed do decent at my beloved auction games.

This little game indeed mixes bidding, card luck draw, and decision making in a very cool way. With this awesome mix all of those mechanics together and a card set that moves the game quickly - and regardless of the results, I shall be stoked to play this again!

I got very lucky getting the colors and buying power I needed to get a goal card that gave you end game points for amounts of 3 and 4 level developments as Tony made a crucial mistake having the all 4 colors on your tableaux bonus card, but then he accidentally used one of the colors to buy something else with no chance to get that color again-- so OMG.. whaddya know? Kel wins !!

Another of my game show game faves in current regular rotation. Sadly I actually won this by only winning one puzzle of my 2 which is a bit unfair to Tony's triumph in two puzzles , but I had all the super high prizes for my win giving me the big total. Tony indeed won both his puzzles, one amazingly fast because he figured out " Going Into Hiding" when I kept thinking the " hide" pictogram in the rebus was a "skin" ---(Tony wrecks me on this one with not even half the puzzle revealed while I sit there stupidly thinking.. " you need to be skinning? I am getting skinnier? MY knees are skinned?)--poor Aimee sadly had a monstrous rack of prizes in one of her games, yet couldn't get the puzzle to come together for her, so I sadly had to tease her tweeting a picture of her prize rack and saying " Here are all the tons of prizes Aimee didn't win." Great fun as always!!

NOTABLE QUOTES:

Since some editions we play of this game are 55 years old-- the pictures of the old prizes are hard to decipher at times. So during Aimee's hosting game, she said an organ was a grill. Much hilarity. Then we decided every prize was a grill. That looks like a trip around the world. No, it's a grill. Oh look, there's the snowmobile behind #14... no it's a grill. Oh yes,the other living room furniture is behind #5. Yes, it's a match. !! It's a grill. !! EVERY PRIZE NOW ON THE BOARD IS NOW A GRILL DUDE !!!!! Also there are worthless gag prizes, one of which was some sort of party-noisemaker horn, that we decided looked like a Fleshlight. Yay !! You win the Fleshlight !! (If you don't know what a Fleshlight is and you are reading this--it's probably better than you do not ask nor Google it.)

SO Happy Tony suggested this game-- that now with 3 playings lately as of the publication of this list-- that yes, I will add this as yet ANOTHER game to my 10x in 2014 list !!

We were all keeping our scores fairly close together-- with yours truly getting the only on-the-nose guess ( Year the Pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock ) -- but a devastating reveal that I thought Prohibition lasted MUCH shorter than it actually did ( Thank God I wasn't around then !!) and then poor Aimee following me down said rabbit hole for her also all-in bet gives Tony the big win.

HILARIOUS NOTABLE QUOTES FOR THIS GAME --

Aimee is a very, very bright young lady who wins a considerable amount of the time at anything from the fun and silly, to the heavy and complex. However she seems to not be particularly fond of historical facts causing her to put the date of the Wright Brothers first successful plane test at 1842-- which caused us all a great deal of guffawing as we pondered that if that was the case, why were there no planes in the Civil War?? Our other hilarity was from some WTF question of number of leaves on the Turniktu ( ??????? Spelling??) plant. Our three answers were 3, 27 and 215. Once we saw the pic of said obscure plan tlife Aimee astutely pointed out " That thing looks like a ball sack."

Tony is one of my fave members of my gaming crews because he's hilarious and a fantastic teache. He is also often, a meaniehead. Not just because he wins a great deal of the time, but because he is so smart he can sometimes " overthink" some innocuous little game and perhaps BREAK it. And that's what he did here for our game that concluded our wonderful Monday of gaming. Whereas most people who have played this so far, simply follow the expected track of if you have a VERY high price card, you jack up the bidding accordingly if everyone is lowballing.

Instead Tony very brilliantly deduces-- if you are going to be last or 2nd to the last in the roation-- and you seem to be the ONLY person with a high price dollar card that will contribute to the price of the prize, then you continue the lowballing INSTEAD of following this track, you basically bluff out that you DO NOT have a high price card-- then go 20 dollars over the last bid and you simply walk away with the prize that is hundreds if not thousands of dollars over the person before you's final bid. Granted this situation has to fall just so to succeed, but it did enough times for Tony to win yet another game. We aren't playing this with him anymore. Meaniehead !!

SCORES/RESULTS:

Tony 3 prizes (WIN)

Kel and Aimee tied at 2 . ( This situation that Tony " broke" WOULD occur on a sudden death prize. Grrrr )

My gaming week was supposed to actually be SEVEN days of a whole week of gaming but on Tuesday Nikki accidentally stood me up. Which was all good in irony because I finished more work that involved a piece for HER during the time we were supposed to be playing. So my gaming week continued on Wed with my dear bro and assistant JCS.

This obscurity that he thrifted is a neat little scrabble-meets-poker-with-a- timer. He had a bit of an issue remembering that 5 slots were necessary for the hand to count so I had a run away win here-- but I am sure he would give me a much more drastic run for my money on further plays considering how much much he beat me by in our third round. ( This was so obscure I thought for sure this would go on June's only " Only you have played " list -- but as I complete another draft of this list.. someone from Chile has beaten me to it for this game this month !! Didn't see that coming !!

SCORES/RESULTS

( Three rounds total score)

K 1211 ( WIN)
JCS 570

(P.S. While it was totally no prob that Nikki knocked out our Tuesday gaming by accident-- wouldn't it be amazing in a normal busy life to somehow manipulate a week where you can play games SEVEN DAYS In a row??-- Oh to dream...)

An EXTRAORDINARILY dated little "mainstream " obscurity ( that paradox signifying I remember seeing this game in many stores often as a kiddo) that was a pleasant enough diversion- but has my MOST infuriating issue often with " vintage" games. While I am obviously a huge fan of weird, old games-- there's nothing more maddening than to get to the end of a decades-old rule set to see something to the effect of " Person with the most whatevers ( chips/points/goodies/Kardashians/cards/candy/diseases/crock-pots) at the end of the play period wins!"

WTF kind of lazy-ass rule writing was thi??s-- game makers often back then couldn't come up with a game end condition and just basically said " Hah !! middle finger to all of you playing this game-- figure out when it ends your damn self! "

So since we wanted to get at least a handful of games in before back to work duties.. I picked one of my lucky numbers out of the air: 17-- and timed our game for 17 minutes. This game's heart is a rather mundane mechanic of trying to play cards out of your hand that go either over or under a card numbered 1 to 8 on the table in a way that makes you have to sacrifice less of your chips. I actually taught this wrong making this game much more challenging that it should have been keeping the chip economy CLOSED when it should have been OPEN-- Oops !!

Will have to give this at least one more go with the correct rules. I got a lot of lucky multiple cards of one number ( which ends the round quicker and forces the opponent to give up more chips ) to take the win.

I wanted to get this obscure little 2 player dealio to the table for a long time and am glad we did. Ironically I chose to do this when abstract tile-laying games are probably the absolutely worse category of ANYTHING I could ever play because I never EVER can seem to " get " them-- it does not help that on the illustration of this game on its packaging, there is an ILLEGAL move PRINTED in said illustration !! Still a neat and creative little dealio that the much more-adept at such JCS won handily.

See the theme here folks? Partially on purpose, partially not.. our games on this fine Wed. all sort of followed in a line-- SHOWDOWN POKER-- RIVERBOAT SHOWDOWN-- then after PILLZ of course we get.. PHARMACY! This is a witty little trivial pursuit relative with the entire subject matter being substances, both legal and otherwise. We shan't elaborate why my dear pal JCS is infinitely more qualified to win a game like this. This game can seem TERRIBLY TOO LONG for what it is---especially with the fiddly board mechanics where you are often thrown into a section of he board where you have to answer a question correctly to get OUT of said spot before you are allowed to score points again ---unless you half the winning 200 points requirement to win, so we did. This has got a lot of cute little " karma" stories when you land on those spaces and match the results to the character you picked at the beginning of the game but again, there's WAY too littlee " GAME" here for this to be carried to the full 200 point requirement.

A very under the radar take on trivia. The way the questions building up to the risk question are formatted is brilliant, the level of difficulty is near perfect-- from the easy to the WTF, and the mechanic of how you get the 6 ciops to win is MUCH MUCH MUCH more streamlined than the grandaddy of this genre, Trivial Pursuit. I make up for my lacking in knowledge about drugs to take the win.

When are you most thankful for BGG? Well, perhaps one of those times when you are afraid you are just a moron and then you can go the forums and find that you aren't.

Nikki and I played this cute little game for MORE THAN AN HOUR. And it was stuck. She had all mushrooms, I had all moons-- there was NO way to get anything ever to flip to anything else and then go in our player area. So I think, we are 2 allegedly accomplished and intelligent people-- are we just not SEEING how you would play a card to move the game along after ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL this time? Thankfully afterwards at home I go to BGG and voila, yes , depending on if someone gets all of one symbol AND the cards that are burned out of the game in a 2-p game -- there are MANY entries on the thread of people saying, yes, this game can very well lock.

Was still fun but it would be nice if this didn't happen any MORE times in the playing of this game !

SCORES/RESULTS

After 77 mins we decided to call a DRAW.

Taxes killed me so that even with my babies and job, Nikki's lottery wins and much better job give her the best life, even though she died first , aging quickly in the final three rolls.

This found-on-BGG little 2 pleayre dealip is a very clever bluff/lie game that is exquisitely balanced between HAVING to lie to get certain points, but praying that you don't get CAUGHT at it as to lose other points. My own self was being a meaniehead as I falsely accused Nikki of gypping me on cars of cards when she wasn't, thus getting her to a 6 point profit and me to losing my last honesty point.
SCORES/RESULTS

N 6 points of profit and honesty intact ( WIN) K loses all honesty points.

At last another little spacial /set collection/climbing ditty I had wanted to get to the table for ages-- and it's a really wonderful little game. However it seems that Kel, despite all his degrees and alleged IQ level, suddenly sometimes seems to believe that 6 plus 5 is 12.

Just for the record , it isn't. It's 11. Which is the magic number of apples you get in one of your baskets to win without going over. So NIKKI has 6 apples, I leave the 5 basket wide open thinking it would put her over - and instead she moves there for the win as we have a hearty laugh about Kel's sudden inability to do kindergarten level math.

SCORES/RESULTS

Nikki 11 red apples ( WIN)
Kel ( FORGETS HOW TO ADD)

Nikki and I's final game of the evening is this fave of ours-- also knows as Card Chess and something else from my play 10x in 2014 list. Even though I took a big risk to foreplace in the 2nd hand and WON it-- she holds out a high card till very late in the trick sequence in the first game to roundly destroy me in points.

Ron and I's first play of this starts the Friday Gaming -- he gets a phenomenal Doctor, and I get a huge Rich Man meld and everything totally goes his way-- even though he seemed to be lost a lot of the time, including evidently no Rummy/Gin games in his repertoire recently since I had to explain what a meld was..

While waiting for others to show up , I couldn't wait to play this awesome game again that Tony had taught me earlier in the week. I had done a fairly decent job of keeping my color hidden from Ron , but he gets a lot of chips and in bonus areas to take the win. Tony watched the losing part of our game and noted that he had never seen the board LOCK with no other possible moves BEFORE all the chips were claimed before-- well leave it to me, I Guess.

Another Wallace under my belt. Tony did a fantastic job of teaching this , and then showing how it's done. (( How it's NOT done is to throw everything balls to the wall in the first set of turns thus leaving you with much less to work with later . Seems that some people will never, ever, EVER grasp this on heavier games.))

This is another brilliant Wallace design mixing combat and resource gathering management with a very clever twist of of having to PLAN to set up where you are in later turns per the board-printed chart in order to get those larger armies at the end-- which Tony obviously did exponentially better than anyone. I was just happy for my 2nd place and my excited thoughts of what I would do when I ever play this again !!

Kel, you did that to block me, you're a fucker. Yes, If there's something Kel is good at it's being a fucker.
Hello, I am in the weaving box.

Kel : I am expanding.
Tony and Aimee ( Who was watching) : Dude, gross that is so none of our business. Ewww.
Kel: Hey come on, don't y'all want to play the Kel game?? WITH The expansion???? Don't you??!!

Aimee : No, and this is definitely marking the return of unpleasantness.
