July has started and the soccer world championship comes to an end.
(Gratz Netherlands, btw... Great job on sending England home )

Soccer is actually a pretty simple game: 22 guys try to kick a ball for 90 minutes and when it is all over the Germans have won

I guess, though, not everyone here watches soccer. Some of you are spending their time more wisely. You lot, go ahead and tell us:

With all this soccer hype, you should go for "Street Soccer". This one is actually pretty simple to craft. Throw in some meeples and some dice - done.

Oh - look: There is even a "litle box" available for it. AWESOME!

Now go and get it.

I have never put together a PnP before, but I really want to do it for Bomb Squad. It has been on my radar for a while now.

EDIT: Thanks to my wife's Silhouette printer (she does metalsmithing and other crafts, so she has some useful tools and knows how to use them), we got the stickers printed out and cut and created the small tiles last night.

We also made what seems like a rookie mistake - we bought 110# card stock, thinking that we could print the cards onto it. We have three inkjet printers in the house, but none of them could handle paper of that thickness. Oops. Either PrinterStudio or maybe linen cover stock (seen in another forum as an idea) will be plan B.

EDIT: We found 110# card stock that works in the printer! Using an idea from elsewhere on BGG, we glued the card fronts to an existing deck of playing cards, which were just a bit bigger (which is good) than the card fronts we are attaching to them. We had just enough cards in the deck to cover all of the Bomb Squad cards, too! Of course, the backs do not say "Bomb Squad" on them, but doing it this way DOES allow for small errors in the cutting/printing of the card fronts. We also put together the Role Cards (front and back). Now we just need to do the tiles and the large board on the foamcore - we may need to buy a bit more foamcore than we have.

I had the cards printed out, but I finally got around to cutting and gluing this game. Great use of cubes just lying around. Now I need to design a cover for the VHS case I am using to store it.

UPDATE: Done with the case, but not entirely happy with it. Maybe I'll mess with it, maybe not.

This is the only one of my current kickstarter projects that I haven't completed the PnP for yet; it's printed, but not yet cut/assembled. Thankfully, I've managed to drum up some interest in trying it at work, so that should provide sufficient motivation!

Update: I completed my PnP of Harbour (or at least mostly completed... I didn't bother with the stretch-goal cards that lack art). We played Harbour about a week after I first started making the game, and I thought it was great!

Fenrir Unbound

4-player co-operative game designed by
Rey Alicea and Dayana Alicea
Ages 10+

“According to Norse myth, Fenrir the wolf was the third son of Loki and the giantess Angrboda. It was prophesied that Fenrir would one day devour Odin ushering in Ragnarok. Tyr the god of war took it upon himself to feed Fenrir while he was still a pup, but as time went on Fenrir grew larger as did the gods' fear of him. The gods then decided to bind the wolf with a fetter they called Leyding. The wolf easily broke free of his bonds. The gods then used another fetter called Dromi and once again to no avail. Receiving word of this Odin called upon the dwarves of Svartalfheim to fashion a fetter made up of six magic ingredients, they called this ribbon-like material Gleipnir. Once bound with Gleipnir, Fenrir was unable to break free…”

Object of the game

The players “Viking gods” win if they manage to collect 3 of the 4 sets of Fetter tiles; otherwise the players lose if Fenrir reaches Odin first.

Components

1 Fenrir wolf figure

4 chips in four colors, 1-red, 1-blue, 1-green and 1-yellow

4 Viking god figures in four colors, 1-red, 1-blue, 1-green and 1-yellow

25 hexagonal tiles comprised of 1 Odin tile and 24 Fetter tiles in four colors, 6-red, 6-blue, 6-green and 6-yellow

1 draw bag

Setup

Pick a color you’d like to play as and place a chip in that color in front of yourself.

The chips color also corresponds to the color of the Viking god that you will move in the game.

The Odin tile is the start tile place this tile face up onto the table.

Then place all 24 fetter tiles into the draw bag and shuffle them; draw one tile at a time from the bag and form a path of face up adjacent tiles that lead away from the start tile.

Next place the four gods into the draw bag, draw a god from the bag placing one on every 5th tile along the path.

Lastly place the wolf figure onto the last tile of the path; the wolf figure should face the path looking towards the Odin tile.

Now you’re ready to play!

How to play

The youngest player starts.

A player on his turn must, following the movement rules…

• Move his piece either forwards or backwards along the path and ending the move on an empty tile not of his color or
• Move forwards or backwards along the path and collect a tile in his color.

After a player’s turn, he calls out who’s turn is next by player color only, although this is a co-operative game players are not to help each other by verbally coordinating there moves.

Tile collection

A player on his turn collects a tile in their color by landing on it with their piece. Tiles are not removed from the path but instead are flipped over and the god that last moved is placed on top.

The game ends when any three of the four sets of color tiles have been collected or when Fenrir reaches the Odin tile.

Movements

The gods can move in three possible ways:

• Walking
• Long jump
• Leapfrog

Walking

To walk, simply move your god to an empty adjacent tile.

Long jump

A god may long jump over another god or even the wolf.

• When performing a long jump you must land an equal distance after the jumped piece as at the start of the jump, so for example, if the piece doing the jumping is four spaces away from the piece you're jumping over, you must land four spaces away from the piece being jumped.

• You can only jump one god at the start of a long jump.

• Multiple long jumps in a single direction are allowed per turn.

Leapfrog

A god may leapfrog over another adjacent god or the wolf ending the jump on an empty tile immediately beyond the jumped piece.

Multiple leapfrog jumps in a single direction are allowed per turn.

Restrictions

No two gods may occupy the same tile nor may a god move onto a tile that the wolf is on.

The gods are also forbidden to leave the path.

Wolf movement

The wolf moves either two tiles forwards or one tile back along the path, but its movements are dictated by what the player’s actions are after a turn.

• If a player’s piece moves onto a tile that’s not in his color, the wolf moves two tiles forward.
• If a player’s piece moves onto a tile that’s in the players color, the wolf moves one tile back.

When Fenrir moves onto a tile occupied by a god the wolf takes his place and the god is moved to the start tile.

Loving thanks goes out to my two wonderful play testers, Sydney and Juliet Alicea.

Acknowledgments: Inspired by the move mechanic in Billabong by designer Eric Solomon

Being a huge fan of Carl Chudyk, I have to try out his newest game asap! It's easy because there's only 49 cards.

The game is simple, but a bit thinky at the same time.

I've been trying for awhile now to secure myself a copy of Magic Realm but can't bring myself to pay ebay price for it so after poking around awhile and really liking Karim's MR I have finally decided that I am going to go ahead and make it my first pnp project. I really don't know how it will turn out but I am hoping for the best!

I'm still waiting on chipboard at the moment and so far I've only printed one pdf file out but hey gotta start somewhere.

I made a quick redesign of this small japanese game. I really like these fast drafting games - this game looks like it's a step up from Sushi Go!, which I also really like. I used some video game concept art and it came out nice, I think. The text is small, but it's still very readable on the actual cards.

I hope to get it on the table real soon...

Having backed this game on Kickstarter a little while ago, I was very glad to see that Maverick Muse had a stand at the 2014 UK Games Expo. One of my friends and I enjoyed the game a lot and this inspired me to finally get round to making the game form the backer's colour PnP files. This was made using the folded A3 system - my first try at this method which I feel is ok, just not what I'm used to using.

From gallery of Techstar

The card cores are 220gsm copier card and the whole lot was spray mounted together. The cutting of the cards was a bit tedious but the amount of info on them meant that game play would be more challenging if I resized them for my card cutter. All in all very little trimming was then needed to get the deck to an acceptable consistency of size. At present they are un-laminated as this makes the cards too thick I feel, and they don't always slide well when warm. They may get a waft of spray varnish if I feel they need it.

Having made the deck I then cranked up the CADCAM beast and made a box for it. 4mm Birchply cut and then engraved with a piece of clipart from the game. Assembled with PVA and given spray varnish to finish.

From gallery of Techstar

The last coat of varnish was just hardening yesterday when lo and behold through my letterbox drops... the actual kickstarter fulfillment copy.

I traded for this and played 8 games in a row with my eldest. He asked if he could take it to his gaming group. Now. I love my son. Really. But I don't want anything to happen to this game, so I made him his own copy to take with him.

This is really a super neat game. I like it very much. I am NOT fond of the rat art, so am glad to have the original art by Noboru Sugiura.

The PnP files just went online, so I printed this out really quickly before I left to visit family for the 4th. Hopefully I can convince someone to try this out!

I recently ordered 2000 centimeter cubes for game crafting - this looks like an interesting place to start using them (right after Empire Engine which I finished a week or two ago...)

For this month, I'm dusting off this Silk Road retheme of Edel, Stein & Reich I started months ago. I'm mostly done with the Goods cards, which are inspired by mahjong tiles and Chinese seals. The goods are spice (yellow), silk (red), tea (green) and porcelain (blue).

But I'm now stuck with the design of the Action and Event cards. Does anyone know any good appropriate fonts for writing out text on cards?

Also, any feedback is greatly appreciated!

I did a complete visual redesign of San Juan. I also made some minor modifications in other places that don't effect gameplay, like making all the monuments statues, and "violet" buildings became "non-production".
