July has started and the soccer world championship comes to an end.
(Gratz Netherlands, btw... Great job on sending England home )

Soccer is actually a pretty simple game: 22 guys try to kick a ball for 90 minutes and when it is all over the Germans have won

I guess, though, not everyone here watches soccer. Some of you are spending their time more wisely. You lot, go ahead and tell us:

Polymer clay is the best worst thing.

The towers were fun to play with (opposed to yet another cube), but I was rather cross-eyed after sculpting the stones on all 4 of them. The red ore blocks have some silver clay marbled in to give more of an ore appearance. My emerald crystal balls to represent mana may have been a bit of a stretch, but they work very well. I made bread loaves for food after failing to make a bushel of wheat that I liked. It was really difficult to get the mushroomed top of the bread loaf to look right while trying to keep the bottom flat so it wouldn't roll around. The cards are just a single layer of card stock since there is no shuffling.

I considered making a piece for each faction for use on their magic track, but the simplicity of the cubes won out. Also, I'm strongly considering asking Michael Coe if I could purchase the premium PnP files, and I do not want to need to make specialized pieces for all of the factions included in the full game.

For game play, we really enjoyed it. My mother-in-law won both times, mostly because she has been able to get the most population cubes out and has been warlike enough to make my wife and I loose cubes.

Thank you Michael Coe for keeping the Kickstarter PnP files up after the game was produced!

I think I made making this game more painful than it should have been. Card backs weren't included with the 8.5" x 11" PnP files (as far as I could find), and instead of being intelligent and asking the designer if I he could create them, I plowed forward using the backs from the 11" x 17" files. They didn't come out the same scale and were cropped by my printer margins (I forced it to print half of the file on 8.5" x 11" paper). This meant gluing card stock backs to fronts individually and then trimming the white off of the backs. Ugh...

Also, instead of scabbing meeples from Carcassonne, I made 40 meeples out of polymer clay after making 4 silicon meeple molds. Not my recommended first silicon mold project, each meeple required a lot of repair smoothing from the molds. One mold even made its meeples look like they had 1970's bell bottoms! I made the other bits using polymer clay as well. I made a hard hat for the first player piece rather than an large meeple. This worked out as a fantastic compromise from trying to make hard hat wearing meeples (just don't tell OSHA). Instead of ingots, I just made bigger lumps of gold clay. The closed auction puck was scrap from my Harbour stone market marker.

I spray glued printer paper to mat board (picture frame backing) to make the main board and player boards. For pay dirt pieces, I used sticker paper on foam core to emulate the thick pieces from The Manhattan Project without having to layer any paper products.
A now unused Catan: Seafarers box became the home for Pay Dirt; I just need to attach some box art (might find a smaller box for Pay Dirt first though).
From gallery of Thoi412

Game play made the pains of building this game worth it. I think I enjoyed it more than the rest of my family, but our first play had quite the ending (shameless session report plug here: Three Way Gold Tie!)

A big thank you to Crash Games and Tory Niemann for releasing the full game as PnP files!!!

We had a lot of fun with making Harbour.
From gallery of Thoi412

Like I said on my Tiny Epic Kingdoms post, polymer clay is the best worst thing.

We played Harbour first using the PnP triangles, and we really enjoyed the game. After that, I decided that I could make some pieces for the market using polymer clay. My wife loved the idea and though we should do all the pieces in poly clay. In the end, she made the most of the pieces. I only made the blue good markers, the green worker (a lifesaver), and the stone and the tree for the market. Her cow for the market really turned out neat.

For the box, I re-purposed a Cricut cartridge box and used some scrap sticker paper to attach the cover art. Perfect size. A little Plano box hold the components inside. The Plano box was an Amazon add-on that was way smaller than I expected it to be. My wife became mildly obsessed with finding a use for it which then became a design constraint for our pieces. Worked out great!

Next, it will be time to sit down with a box of colored pencils and fill in the art.

We really enjoy this game. At three players, keeping an eye on the market to predict how prices will shift is difficult but adds a great facet to the game. It filled niche in games for us by having a fairly quick game that still has significant strategy.

Thank you to Scott Almes and Tasty Minstrel Games for making PnP files available!

When I realized I couldn't find a copy easily, I decided to try making my own version. I'm pretty happy with how the cards turned out.

I built another copy of Dungeon of Mandom over the weekend. This one is a retheme of the game based on Ilya's Magic Stone redesign of Wiz-War.

I'm a big fan of both games and I had most of Ilya's source files from my work on the Wiz War Community Expansion, so this was a relatively painless redesign. The items are taken directly from the game, although their powers in this game do not correlate directly to their powers in Wiz-War. The monsters are also straight out of Wiz-War and the cards have been designed to look like actual game pieces on the game board.

I made a copy of this for use with my annual games making activity.

I run this as part of our school's end of year activities week. We had 17 kids with us for 4 days. This was a quick fill in activity that proved very popular whilst glue on more major projects was setting.

Another quick build. Not really a football fan (shh don't tell anyone, its practically a capital offense round here), but I was intrigued after seeing another build of this, and seeing positive reviews on the game's page. May just solve a few entertainment problems for visiting nephews etc.

Think "Alhambra express" and you're not far from what this game is. I really enjoy it. I've created a very simple score track that you can find in the files section of the game.

Today's big build (I cheated, the printing was done last week and the cubes counted at the weekend by my eldest daughter. Just assembly really.)
This was boshed out quick after seeing another users build that used plastic cubes. I was part way through prepping some 16mm ones (still am for that matter) but managed to get hold of some similar 10mm plastic cubes and did a quick resize on my boards and hey presto.

I like the idea of TC4 but wasn't moved enough by the graphical style of the existing versions to back the Kickstarter. So after some pondering TC4 became MC1 and a Judge Dredd theme was successfully deployed.

The artwork is all different views of MC1 found on the web.

Tulku

3 or 4-player card game

Designed by Rey Alicea

Object - To be the player with the most cards at the end of the game.

The Deck – 36 cards ranked from highest to lowest 14,13,12,11,10,9,8,7,6 each in four-color suits red, green, blue and orange.

Before the start of the game each player selects a different trump color suit.

The Deal – The dealer shuffles the deck and deals out all the cards one at a time face down to all the players. Next players look at their hand for any sixes not in their trump suit, these are to be given to the player who has that suit as trumps.

The game is played in three rounds; keep scores for each of the rounds.

The Play – Playing clockwise, the player to the dealers left starts by playing any card from their hand face up to the center of the playing area forming the start of a play stack.

Henceforth on your turn take one of the following actions:

1. Beat the top card of the play stack by playing a higher-ranking card of the same color suit or

2. Play one of your trump cards on top of the play stack. Having done this, you must play another card on top of this one; this second card may be of any rank or color suit the player so chooses or

3. Play a card that is not one of your trump cards to the playing area forming a second play stack adjacent to the previous one, the card must be of a different color suit from the one previously lead. Having done this, you must play another card on top of this one; this second card must be a higher-ranking card of the same color suit. Now all the cards of the previous play stack go to the previous player and kept face down.

When a player is unable to take her turn, she must pass and the stack of cards go to the previous player. If all players pass in succession the game ends.

Scoring – At the end of each round add up all the cards you’ve taken, these are worth 1 point each and then subtract 1 point each for every card left in your hand. Tally each players final scores from all three rounds, the player with the highest score is the winner.

I thought this was a neat looking little solitaire game.

After a few plays it appears to have some issues, but I think those may be fixable with a couple of rule tweaks.

This is a retheme of an interesting card game using cute creatures from my favorite video game - Monster Hunter. I wish Monster Hunter fans will like it.

I added some new cards & changed some trait functions. This retheme version has 90 cards & is compatible with my quick game variant.

Board Game: New World Colony
I've finished my copy of the game, as I was looking for small paper clips, and I've covered the board with a thin plastic sheet (the kind you cover school books with).

The paper printout board was glued to cardboard, then covered in plastic (to avoid having clip dents everywhere). Cards are Artsc*w, mostly because I've run out of printable cardboard and my inkjet printer died on me at the last PnP Secret Santa Print-a-thon. shake Rules have been laminated, as I just try to avoid papers everywhere. Cards have been sleeved, as I am finding myself quite a bit addicted to going further in my VP, so I see plenty more gaming sessions out of it.

Quick build of Super Delve today.

I absolutely LOVE this artwork. The Character cards as Comic book covers is a fantastic touch.

Turns out doing child care all day is much harder to square with a PnP hobby than a security gate guard gig starting a couple hours before dawn (who could have guessed?). For an upcoming family vacation I got out the dollar store toy guns I got months ago, and with my new printer and new corner rounder I made the "Dapper" redesign cards by
