July has started and the soccer world championship comes to an end.
(Gratz Netherlands, btw... Great job on sending England home )

Soccer is actually a pretty simple game: 22 guys try to kick a ball for 90 minutes and when it is all over the Germans have won

I guess, though, not everyone here watches soccer. Some of you are spending their time more wisely. You lot, go ahead and tell us:

Working on getting my own copy done of the print and play, with chipboard chits, if I can find the boards in my town. I have recently just use the back of other game mats that I have in the junk pile, like extra SHogun mats that someone handed me knowing I designed games. Should be a fun build to get it to the point it is as good as the published TGC version.

I wish I had some skills to make the player mats look good, but they are functional.

So after combing back through the monthly lists to find projects I'd like to build and topping 100 items before the end of 2011, I was faced with the PnP equivalent of AP.

After factoring in my material limitations, I decided on Splut! since it seemed like something in which I could garner my son's interest (in much the same way that Hive was such an easy sell for my daughter).

But have you ever had one of those bad crafting days?
First, my color cartridge kicked it. The tokens made it through the gauntlet but the board was a streaky mess.

Not a problem, I thought. I reset my printing to gray-scale and reprinted the board and made a pocketmod of the rules.

I then mounted all the bits and board to a cereal box. I had to revert to glue stick since I was out of labels, but the heavy ink saturation caused ripples in the paper.

I top-laminated everything but the problems with the board were exacerbated; not only did the ripples cause the laminate to bubble but, due in part to the thinness of the cardboard, the entire board curled.

Also, the tokens were too small for me to use my arch punch
cry

I finished everything up anyway because I just couldn't leave it undone, despite its aesthetic hideousness.

I taped the board to the table so that we could play.

The good news: My son and I really enjoyed it (he more than I since he won 3 games to 2)

I'll definitely make this again with higher quality components but it looks like I'm 'out of the game' for the remainder of the month...unless I can find the opportunity to use the color laser printer at work

This was on Kickstarter a while back and I missed it, but Issac was cool enough to offer a print and play on his website ( http://www.cephalofair.com/forge-war ) so I tried it and it's awesome! I printed out the board, the cards and the mine and I provided the adventurer dice, cubes, money and meeples.

You're basically playing a mini game in the mine

to gather resources which you will use to forge weapons and then take them on quests.
Board Game: Forge War
A heavy strategy euro at heart, I am really enjoying playing though this and have purchased the full game from Issac's website and it should be here sometime in February.

Not printing this month, but I did the layout of the 22 cards in my miniature deck for Dominion: Prosperity.

Now to wait for another good coupon for the miniature cards to appear. I don't expect one before holiday shopping time.

Next up: Dark Ages, which has 34 kingdom cards, plus Spoils, 3 different Shelters, 5 different Ruins, 10 different Knights, and 2 decks not in the supply, for 55 different cards to lay out. Ugh.

I always liked the Okumarts standees and now they are being used for a Dungeon Crawler? That's great!

I've been on a PnP frenzy recently. This month I've already completed versions of Witch Hunt, Sail to India, Bad Grandmas, Zeppelin Derby, 2 Rooms 1 Boom and Maha Yodha... today I am starting work on my copy of Snitch!

I work for a company that produces flags, banners, yard signs etc... we have some really nice materials but all are meant for large scale printing so our costs for custom printing something so small are way too high. HOWEVER! I did manage to snag some misprinted PVC Foamboard in the 1/4" thickness and our cutting machine operator was nice enough to send it through the auto cutter for me so now I have a box of perfectly cut, quality material tiles sitting here just waiting for me to apply the artwork to them. I think this may end up being my best results yet. (Which is saying a lot as my Maha Yodha cards looks pretty slick.)

Pictures will follow after I get it fully assembled.

I almost forgot: back in July I made this custom version of R/Braverats for the wedding of a gamer couple I know.
Every character is based on someone in our game group. And the happy couple is of course featured prominently as the red prince and blue princess. (One of them; the other royal couple is me and my boyfriend.)
