There may come a time when either for financial reasons, space restrictions, or lack of interest that a game is traded or sold. I have sold more than a few games without much regret. Pandemic was not popular with most of the players, Pathfinder Adventure Card Game: Rise of the Runelords – Base Set saw maybe three plays since I bought it, and Arkham Horror, while always holding a special place in my heart, just became too much to manage. This list, however, is about those long lost loves. Those games where the parting was not so sweet and a sense of sadness has arisen at their passing. These are games which we wish we had not sold or that we had purchased again because we could no longer imagine the collection without them.

It is this game that caused me to create this list. While it is true that it rarely saw play, I miss owning the Millennium Falcon, Vader's Tie Fighter, and Slave 1. I miss dog fighting around an imagined galaxy dodging blaster bolts while dropping mines or missiles. My large green Plano case has left a gaping hole in my collection that I cannot seem to fill. I need to get this one back...

My kids were too young to really get into this one. I was a bit burned out on "vanilla" Settlers. The game was going for a decent price (but nowhere near as much as it is now). I had the space, but didn't foresee playing this. Now my kids are older and I have a regular gaming group that I suspect would enjoy it. I'd like to have it back, but that's probably not going to happen.

I regret selling this one. At the time, I had no one to play with. My armies were all painted and looked great. Now my kids are asking for it and I had to tell them its gone.

I got this for Christmas back in the 1970s. I was probably 12 or 13 years old when I got it. I was fascinated by the complexity of the game as I had never owned such a meaty game before. I read the rulebook several times (and I'm sure I didn't understand some of the nuances). I set up the game on our pool table and played a solo campaign. I left the game on the pool table and would continue the campaign every day. I loved that game. Sometimes, I would just open the box and look at the counters comparing the ratings of the various units. Years later, I ended up selling it at a flea market. I think I got $5.00 . . . or maybe $10.00. It was in excellent condition and wasn't missing any pieces. I'm not much of a war gamer, but I wish I never sold this game.

An unsung favorite. Right up there with Steam and Cuba as my go-to must-play games. Alas, it was not meant to be.

I owned this for quite some time and played it often. Some family indicated they preferred Flash Point, so I sold this. Though I still enjoy Flash Point, I miss this one.

I don't regret this because I loved the game or am desperate to play it again, but rather that I now own twenty Kramer/Kiesling games and this is the highest profile one I am missing.

When I traded it, I thought Rumis scratched the same itch well enough, and perhaps better for our purposes. Now that has fallen out of favor at home as well, and I would rather have this one instead.

I originally traded Gonzaga for a copy of 7 Wonders. It ended up sitting around for a really long time since I primarily play with my wife. It was never the right time to play it with friends, and the rumored huge footprint had me concerned.

Despite my slight feelings of regret, I ended up trading for Ra: The Dice Game and Archaeology: The Card Game, which are both currently out of print. These ended up being two of our most played games! So it wasn't all bad.

I've since purchased Sushi Go! (much cheaper), but I just really want to try 7 Wonders!

I love this game. I really do.

Fell on hard times about 6 years ago and sold off a sizable part of my collection off. At least this one went to a friend in our game group, so I still get to play it, but I would love to have my own copy back on a shelf. Hard to find and harder to find with a decent price tag in the US.

Bought it super cheap and the eventually traded it away (for St Petersburg and Settlers expansion).

I didn't like the voting system for determining influence in each country, but I did like the theme. Very original. And the game looked great. Sort of game that's good to drag out once a year. I'd love it back for its originality - despite that cover - just to play once more.

Had three poor experiences, each worse than the last. The third time I played it I was so angry (took too long, lost badly) I sold it. Then a few years later played again and it was much better than I remembered - even if the negotiation dragged the game out a bit too much. It was also the numbered Alea edition. This was before I realised Alea don't reprint their titles.

When I re joined the hobby I went all out on this Cranky Old Bastard buying binge.

ALL the Great Battles of History stuff. As I cast about looking for something less tactical I saw Rise of Roman Republic and Carthage. In a bulk purchase of dozens of GMT titles I snagged up the Ancient World Series.

A reading of the rules...OMG. This will never be played. I sold it for something lame....
