I've decided to put together a list of my top games, and although I expected it to be a top 50, I ended up with enough material for a top 100. I started with all the games I have played, then eliminated all of those that I could not remember and those that I did not like. After that, I divided them all into four tiers, and then once more, each of this tiers into four new ones. That gave me roughly 10-16 games to sort out. When the list was done, I started making adjustments, and that's when things slowed down. I like all the games in this list, so even the last 10 games I would play gladly. No.99 and 100 are breaking these rules to some degree, but I don't care.

I love this game. Theme everywhere, solid mechanics. A perfect hybrid between a story-driven game and a strategy game. There is always a story to be told after you are finished playing, and it is always a challenge to play it. It is cooperative. The multiple scenarios, the large amounts of cards, and the user-made scenarios make its replayability inmense. The components are beautiful. I like it with all player counts (1-4). My number one game.

Second on my list, and I wish I could play it more. It takes a good 3-4 hours to play it, but what an experience! You really feel like you have created something, like you have grown and expanded your civilization. Fantastic game!

This game has been up there for me for a long time. I love building up a team, getting better at the game in training, and finally going to space. Granted, I always clone myself, since it is quite hard! But few games can be as intense as Space Alert.

There is simply no better game with a traitor. I love the theme, the build up as you see fleets of cylons filling your board, the paranoia that somebody might be playing against you, and the doubt that you might become a cylon yourself. Yes, the rulebooks are not the most helpful (particularly when you add expansions), and you MUST have some expansions added carefully to make it be a great game, but honestly, no game compares.

My favorite two-player game. I like historical games, I like the card-driven mechanic, and I love Cold War history. This game can get very emotional, as you see your superpower rise in greatness, or collapse in shame. Absolutely fantastic game.

Few games give me the full 4X experience (explore, expand, exploit, exterminate) better than Eclipse. I love growing my empire, finding new planets, attacking my neighbors, improving my technologies and resource production, and customizing the ships, all in a relatively short game. I enjoy the build-up towards the end of the game, when massive battles are bound happen. It might be too long with 5-6 players, but from 2-4 I would play it anytime!

Ah, Game of Thrones... The intrigue, the politics, the backstabbing. The game is beautiful, the atmosphere of the books/tv series is absolutely everywhere, and those mechanics that are a perfect setup for betrayal are just a joy. I would only play it with 6 players, or 4 using the "A Feast for Crows" expansion. In both cases a top game. Not for the faint of heart.

What a hilarious game. You spend half of it building your ship, only to see it destroyed bit by bit in a crazy race around space! There are few games that make me laugh as hard, while presenting a good challenge in their mechanics. There are some important decisions being made, and ultimately it is a fantastic game, not just entertaining. But wow, does it entertain.

A classic. I love the feeling of growth in this game. Your truly start with nothing, and by the end of the game you have a fully functioning farm (hopefully). I love the theme, the mechanics, I love the complexity it presents (with and without cards). It makes me very curious of Caverna, but I have such beautiful set of pieces for my game, that I hesitate to fall in love with its 2.0 version.

Ah, what an excellent worker placement game. The possibility to spy (take your opponent's exclusive actions), the asynchronous worker placement/removal mechanic, and the fact that the spots are considered occupied until you or your opponent decide to recall the workers, even in your own board, makes this game have awesome interaction. It is always a close game, although perhaps sometimes the end comes too suddenly. Just enough to break your heart.... You were so close to winning!

If what I want is theme, this is one of my go to games right now. The story is king in this game. The sense of impending doom is palpable almost every turn. And I do think that in the big picture, this is a large puzzle to be solved, with many moving parts (sometimes random), that one needs to adapt to. 4 players maximum (probably 3), but even solo, this game is awesome.

A war game meets a strategy Euro-style game with a great theme, and this is what happens: Dominant Species. Perhaps the heaviest game in the first 30 games of this list, but well worth it. Really deep gameplay, lots of decisions, very well designed, and simply beautiful to play. I would never play it with more than 4 people because of its length, but still, what a night that would be!

Beautiful game, components, gameplay. Would be higher on my list if it was easier to teach, but the graphic design does not help. But playing it with people that know it already is really fun. And it scales down very well to three and two players. Thinky and meaty.

Beautiful game. Perhaps one of the prettiest I have. As you play through the chapters of a story, your characters improve, gain things, and yes, frequently lose them as well. Difficult enough to make it challenging and rewarding. I love playing it solo, but have enjoyed it with two and three people as well. A game I suspect kids would like very much, and one that I have played many times!

Another fast-riser in this list with potential to be in my top ten after more plays. Absolute fighting between players. Attack or be attacked. This game is what Risk might have been if it was designed in the last decade. All players start in the same condition, but every turn you customize your armies and all take very different directions. The gameplay is straight forward action selection. Only minor complain would be the iconography on the power tiles is somewhat cryptic. However, the components of the game are some of the most beautiful I own. Can't wait to play it more.

A card game that reminds me of my role playing days. You start with a character (or several) with very basic deck of cards, and each time you play the game you might add some of the things you find (while keeping the limit of 15 cards and certain class requirements). Like a slow motion deck builder. But you get a feeling of character growth. Your people getting better. The story advancing. Things happening. Monsters scheming against you. All from a card game. Excellent.
