Best pimped boardgame of the month, July 2014, 47th edition

How to submit an image of your pimped boardgame?

Just add a geeklist item, where it asks for a ImageID add the number of your photo there. Use [imageid=xxxxxx medium] in the body of the List Entry, where "xxxxxx" is the ImageID number, to show the image at a reasonable size as that helps people judge your image better, and make sure to remove the space. If you have questions please geekmail me and I will help.

Rules:

1) You can submit up to 3 entries.

2) Each entry can contain up to 2 images.

3) That image(s) has to be one of your own. If you like a pimped game of another user, please ask for permission to submission.

4) The image(s) was uploaded during the month in question.

5) Images from your User Gallery are eligible, and images from any other Gallery.

7) It is possible to include a link to a geeklist or a thread, where you find more details about the pimped boardgame.

8) Users may vote for (give a thumb up to) as many entries as they wish.

9) Winners will be declared when the next month's list goes up.

10) In case of a tie, the prize will be split equally among all the tied people.

11) I will randomly reorder this list so that the first-come first-thumbed effect is lessened.

Prizes

Three will be awarded:

First place:

50 bag + microbadge golden teapot mb

Second place:

25 bag

Third place:

10 bag

extra prize (each thumb up giver):

5 bag randomly one person, who gives this list a thumb up.

So make sure to give this list a thumbsup so that we can keep this list on the front page as long as possible!!! You have the chance to win bag. And there will be more participants -> more pimped games to see!!!

Custom Game Board for Command & Colors

Ancients Setup

Napoleonics Setup

Inspired by the old Field Command dimensional game board, I wanted something that could give a visual reminder for the terrain modifiers that help make the C&C games what they are. And to stop terrain tiles from sliding while moving units.

Board edge was laser cut from a 20" x 30" sheet of 1/8" plywood in order to provide a frame to hold in the hex tiles and victory banners. (Base board has the C&C Ancients logo etched on it.) Both pieces were then hand stained and then the frame was glued onto the base board.

Base hexes are cut from 1/4" hard maple and stained on both sides — Golden Pecan on one side and a custom green on the other. Everything has three coats of stain and three coats of Oil & Satin Urethane.

For the Ancients side, terrain hexes were laser etched and then hand stained. (Again, three coats of stain and three coats of Oil & Satin Urethane.)
For the Napoleonics side, I printed the terrain on canvas (from Artscow) and applied one sided adhesive to the back by running the canvas through a Xyron 1200 laminator. Then glued the individual terrain pieces to hexes cut from different thicknesses of plywood that were stained and urethaned. Each hex has self-adhesive felt applied to the bottom. (I also used the same technique for the Battle Cry terrain.)

This has been an evolving work-in-progress for nearly seven years. Eventually the board will sit on a base that has 10 drawers -- five on each side. Eight will hold the individual C&C:A armies and two will hold the terrain tiles.

I knew I wanted to paint it, but I had no idea my wife would want to take it to such a high level of detail. Thank you, honey!

My retheme of Reiner Knizia's "Abandon Ship". This has been a work in progress and this is the final version.

1) extensive Photoshopping of purchased water/beach in order to fit overhead requirements of game. Insertion of Amity Beach sign and the "X" which scores zero points for first place is a pic of the "My son is Dead!" woman from the film. ie. you are "shamed" for rushing out of the water first.

2) pics from the movie used as background screen with standup of Roy Scheider. (silhouette of shark created by me) Rocks were selected to match the ones behind Roy.

3) white printed on clear plastic and hand cut to form the water wake movement trays for each meeple swimmer to show them "splashing" urgently
:-)

4) Chits and box designed by me and all dice symbols. Instead of cheese as bonus points, you can now save children (small meeple chits)

5) Bruce the Shark is a toy one with repainted mouth and teeth and a more game friendly base inserted on the bottom.

6) rules sheet reformatted and reprinted to fit theme.

thats about it!

Les

This month a magnetized and painted Ripper Suit for Deadzone.

The Ripper Suits are among the coolest minis of Deadzone. Big, fun, over-sized, with customization choices, several heads, a few accessories.

I don't like choices, but I like magnets.

Some drilling and gluing later, all parts are interchangeable. Honestly quite useless in the very end but I find myself switching parts just for fun more oft than I should whistle

Here's when it's painted :

A little How-To (and the other Suits you can build) on our blog http://kaboum.fr/wondercatpainting/2014/03/fun-with-magnets-... (is it ok to share an external link ? I'll remove it if not !)

I rebuilt the original 1988 game board with an all new graphic design. Took a couple weeks of free time to airbrush out all the old elements, create a new graphic design, and color/brightness balance the background for printing.

The full map printed/mounted by Print & Play Productions.

Closeup section of the board with my acrylic custom tokens and ship standees.

They explained everything in detail and at great length. After they finished I sat, despondent, contemplating a bleak and empty future. "I’m glad you’re depressed" said one. "It means you’ve understood the situation.”

I have finally finished my work on the War of the Ring (Second Edition) character miniatures for Squash. Here is the final batch:

Firstly, Gothmog, Sauruman and the Balrog:

Secondly, The Witch King on foot and riding his fell beast:

Finally, four hobbits:

These miniatures were painted as part of the Jack Vasel Memorial Fund auction. Details on how they were painted can be found here:

This is a new deck building game based on A Touch of Evil: The Supernatural Game.

I made a set of card mats to keep the game organized during play.
