Recently, I agreed to help decide/design what goes on the back of a box for a game of mine which will hit stores early 2015 (Stinker)

I'm struggling to conceive a design that isn't deathly tepid, and it's not helping that most box backs are just that. It's hard to find inspiration.

So I'm calling on you, dear fellow BGGer: what box backs stand out to you? why?

(and if you want to suggest solutions to my specific challenge, please do.)

While primarily used for killing vampires, a wooden stake to the heart is also highly effective against most other opponents.

How about some self referential humor?

At the top of the image, the deck of Prompt cards fanned out. You can read some of them but most only partially. The card at the top of the deck that is completely visible reads "What should be on the back of this game box?"

Below that, many different phrases describing things that could be played if that question actually appeared during the game. The phrases would be images of the tiles from the game, with a score total at the end of each phrase.

Of course, your game might not be in a box 36"x36", so instead of tile images, you could just quote the phrases. Background image would just be the tiles and cards spread out on a standard size card table. One or more of the phrases mentioned could also be in the background image.

Do Not put images of people laughing on the back of your game box.
