Voting is now open!

Vote here:
http://goo.gl/forms/iovepphGv5

Voting will be open for over three weeks, so no need to rush -- best to decide where all your votes/medals will go first

Quick reminder of the categories and rules:

VOTING CATEGORIES

Best Game (5 medals, mandatory)
Best Theme (3 medals)
Best Art / Illustration (3 medals)
Best Graphic Design / Layout (3 medals)
Best Mechanic (3 medals)
Originality / Innovation (3 medals)

So there's 20 medals to award (votes to cast) in total.

All the categories after the first one should be reasonably assessable by just reading/looking at game cards. We understand that people can only play a small number of games, so we hope that everyone will have a look at more games for these later categories. With so many entires a lot of games deserve to win!

VOTING RULES

Voting is only open to BGG users; you'll have to enter your username.

Within each category, medals must go to different games.

You're only allowed to vote for any particular game TWICE, and for you own games just ONCE, in the ENTIRE voting form. If you've submitted more than 1 game, you may vote for each of your games once. (We don't want people putting the same 3 games in all categories.)

Voting in the first category (Best Game) is mandatory. In the later categories, you may choose to SKIP the entire category by awarding no medals AT ALL. (Awarding just one or two is not allowed: we don't want people to vote for their own game and no-one else.)

Any votes that don't adhere to these rules will be ignored.

Tips given here and on the geeklist will be combined and given to the winners. I will also donate gg into the pot.
Please throw some money in there to make it juicy.

I am also going to publish a minimum of 2 games for this contest.
With the possibility of publishing many more.

I want to have the people to vote in the poll for the winners.
But in the end I will choose what games I want to publish.

A poll will be created for each category.
1. Best Game. (1st, 2nd, 3rd)(40%, 20%, 10%)
2. Best Art. 15%
3. Best theme 15%

All the money donated will be divided between the category winners.

Current Prize Pot: 1010 gg

Files
I created a geeklist for the entries.
Post your entries in the WIP thread.
I suggest using dropbox.
Also upload a logo pic and cards pic into your gallery and post a link.

Prototypes
I would like to involve gamecrafter
Not sure if I should make it required or not
They have good price for 18 cards with a wrap.
Around 5 bucks I believe.
I could just purchase the ones I am considering to publish
maybe I can work out a deal with gamecrafter if a lot of people are interested.

And..
The plan right now is to publish 2 of the winners with one of my games.
This would be 3 games in a standard size tuck box.
If there are lots of great games I am willing to go bigger.
I am also considering individually packaging them and as a set.

I think kickstarter would be a good option.
I know everyone will want to know the terms.
It will be industry standard.
I can lay out the rules if needed.
or discuss with the winners after I choose.

Experience
If you want to know about my background:
https://www.facebook.com/Hackogames
https://www.flickr.com/photos/hackwelder/sets

I just ran a kickstarter for Monster Deck 55
It was 327% funded with 250 backers.

*I will be adjusting the rules a little.
Please voice your suggestions!!
All your opinions are welcome.
Thank You

It's planting season and the master gardeners are all trying to make sure their favorite flowers are the most prominent in the garden.

Game Overview
Players may play in teams or head to head. The game starts with one player making a bid for a color and number. An opposing player decides whether to up the bid or block. The player(s) who win the bid must ensure that they score at least as many flowers of their color as they bid or the blocking player(s) wins the round. The first player(s) to 5 match points win the game.

To score points players start by playing a card in the center of the table. On the card are 6 flowers in 4 different colors. The next player can play a card only by matching at least 2 flowers on a card or cards already in play and playing that card on top of the card or cards already in play so that the matching flowers are aligned. Once all the cards have ben played flowers matching the color which won the bid are counted.

Then, starting again with the first player, players take turns picking cards back up. Once all cards have been picked up, the bidding team scores their flowers again. If the total is equal to or greater than their bid they win the round.

CMYK is a simple, four-player colour matching game played over four rounds. Players attempt to form lines of cards in their colours; horizontally, vertically or diagonally. The twist being that cards are swapped with others when they are played so the card array moves around constantly.

NOTE: Rules change, regarding taking a fourth suit. It's now a flat -2 instead of -9. The secret snack variant is the proper way to play, as well- but it's mind twisty, so it's listed as a variant.

UPDATED (10/04/2014) FILES HERE ON DROPBOX

Also, on page two you can find parts 2 and 3 of the snacklet trilogy! Aka, what'll fit in one deck.

NEW RULES UPDATE! Included in the latest zip file.

Ship Building Game for 3-4 Players

Can a game be designed using only 18 cards? That is the objective of the 18 Card microgame contest. Initially I was sceptical but I can't resist a challenge and started to think of whether any of my board games could be turned into a micro card game. The answer was Vasa Regalis, skipping the craft part and playing only the build part.

The theme of the game is ship building. The piles represent parts of the ship and the cards represents material of different values. The players don't want to be caught spending too little on the worst parts and don't want to spend too much on the best parts.

External image

The rules are simple: players have 4 cards each numbered 1-4 to place in 4 piles. The players may place 1 card in a pile (forcing all players to place a card in the same pile), replace 1 placed card or view 1 card of another player. Once all 4 cards have been placed in 4 piles, the players have one final chance to replace 1 card before the piles are totalled. Lowest cards in the lowest piles lose while lowest cards in the highest piles win.

The PnP (with complete rules) can be found here:

Five Stories is a film-noir themed card game of luck, intuition and storytelling, based Rock Paper Scissors Lizard Spock, with a twist. Players compete to take tricks and win hands while developing a mystery (if they want... they can just take tricks if they feel uncreative).

2 Players
Game time 10-15 minutes
Ages 10+

The Cards:
(3x)The Private Eye
(3x)The Crime Lord
(3x)The Corrupt Cop
(3x)The Femme Fatale
(3x)The Jealous Husband
(2x)The Twist
(1x)The Rules

Gameplay:

Setup: Both players are dealt a hand of 5 cards. The remaining 7 cards are placed in a stack face down on the table to form the Twist Deck. One card from the Twist Deck is then turned face up to start the Twist Pile.

Play: Each player selects a card from their hand and reveals it simultaneously. The card chosen may not be the same as the card on top of the Twist Pile unless there is no other option. The winner of the trick is determined by the matrix on the back of the cards, with each card defeating two others and losing to two others:
The Private Detective – Tracks The Crime Lord, Grills The Femme Fatale
The Crime Lord – Pays off The Corrupt Cop, frames The Jealous Husband
The Corrupt Cop – Menaces the Femme Fatale, betrays The Private Detective
The Femme-Fatale – Deceives The Jealous Husband, Swindles The Crime Lord
The Jealous Husband – Confronts The Corrupt Cop, Hires The Private Detective

In the case of a tie, the trick is left on the table and claimed by the winner of the following trick. After each trick is played, a new card is moved from the Twist Deck to the top of the Twist Pile. Whoever wins the most tricks wins the hand. A game is played to the best of 5 hands.

The Twist: If a player has a The Twist card in their hand, they may play it immediately upon losing a trick and announce why their card actually won. They then take the trick and claim the card that is on top of the face-up Twist Pile. If "The Twist" is the last card in a player's hand, they must discard it and play the card from the top of the Twist Pile instead. In the case of a double Twist, players claim from the Twist Pile in the order they played the Twist cards.

Intrigue in Grevelheim is a fast trick taking game for 2-4 players.

Each card represents a character in the city of Grevelheim. Players try to get these charcters to join their council and thereby gain more influence in the city.

Components: 17 character cards, ranked from 0 to 16. 1 rules card.

Shuffle the 17 cards to form the deck.
Now , depending on the number of players, move cards to the center face down, to the discard pile face up, and deal cards to players as shown in the table below:
From gallery of dennisthebadger

Cards in the discard pile are visible to all players. Cards in the center remain face down and are secret.

Intrigue in Grevelheim is played in a sequence of rounds. Each round players take turns playing a card. Effects are resolved immediately.
Unless special effects of cards influence the result, whoever played the highest ranked card wins the round. The winner of the round wins all cards played in that round and adds them to his council. The winner is the first player to play a card in the next round.
This continues until no more cards can be played. Players then add up the influence of their council members (top right corner icon) and whoever has the highest score wins the game.

You are a Dream Collector, a broker for one of the Dream Lords, powerful beings that feast on the energy of our unconscious imagination. Your Dream Lord has tasked you to collect its favorite Dream Energies with the promise of anything you desire as a reward.

But be careful: there are other Dream Collectors hunting Dream Energies for their own Dream Lords and no Dream Lord likes to be outdone!

How to play:

Each player takes a Dream Lord that they will represent at the start of play. That Dream Lord has a favored Dream Energy and two complimentary Dream Energies listed on its card.

Once you and the opposing player have selected your Dream Lords, you each take turns placing the remaining cards orthogonally to build the Dreamscape. The objective is to build Dreampaths along the Dreamscape, your Dream Lord's favored Dream Energies that connect in a continuous unbroken path up, down, left, or right (but not diagonal).

Once the Dreamscape has been completely assembled, players score their Dreampaths. The more preferred Dream Energies in the path, the higher points value it is worth.

This is the first promo-shot from the game. I will update it once I have the sheets made.

This is a game about guessing what's in the other player's refrigerator.
2 player game, but it could be more.

1- guess which items.
- You can only ask If the other player has 2 items, They will answer yes or no.
2- guess which items and how many of each item.
- You can only ask the questions containing a number and an item.
3- guess exactly which items and what shelf they are on.
- You can ask the questions containing a number and an item or ask if an item is on a certain shelf, with yes/no response.

Rules

1- Choose a starting player.
2- Choose a level of play.
3- Take turns asking questions.
4- Use your turn to take a guess.
If you’re right, You win!
IF you’re wrong, you lose.

Question Example.
Player 1: Do you have 3 oranges?
Player 2: No, I don't have 3 oranges.
This means player 2 has oranges, but not 3.
or Player 2: No, I don't have oranges.
or Player 2: Yes I do.

Shuffle the cards and put them in one face down pile. Choose a starting player. On each player’s turn, he or she draws the top card and reveals it to all players.

The player may then keep this card for his or her hand or discard it face up. If it is discarded, the player must take the top card from the face down pile and add this card to his or her hand instead. This card is not revealed to other players. Players may look at cards in their own hand only.

Play continues to the left, and each player adds a card to his or her hand until each player has three cards.

If the deck runs out, shuffle the discard pile and turn it face down. Then keep going.

To score, each player adds the points on the cards in their hands for each category. A player only scores Tree points if they have more Tree points than Stone points.

They score Stone only if there are more Stone than Fire points. And they score Fire points only if there are more Fire points than Tree points.

The total is the score for the round. Play 3 rounds.
It is impossible to score all three categories, but possible to not score any.

Scoring Examples:
If T=6, S=4, and F=3, the score is 10
If T=3, S=7, and F=4, the score is 11
If T=5, S=5, and F=7, the score is 7
If T=8, S=3, and F=5, the score is 8

A fast-paced party game where players set out a growing series of descriptive words in a hilarious competition to find the "it" that fits them.

From gallery of swcblues

HOW TO PLAY
1. Place this card face up on the table.
2. Shuffle the rest of the cards and place them ace down to form the draw pile.
3. The first player takes a card from the top of the draw pile, chooses a word from it, places the card face up next to this one with the arrow pointing to the chosen word, and names an “it” that fits the describing word.
4. The player to their left draws a card, selects a word, places that card next to the others in line with the previously chosen word (see reverse for example), and names a new “it” that fits both words played. They cannot “build” on the previous players’ “its” by adding to them (if Elephant has been used, Baby Elephant is not allowed).
5. If they cannot (in a reasonable time frame), the next player takes the card and has the opportunity to eliminate them by placing it and naming an “it” that fits. If they also can’t, play continues clockwise until someone can, eliminating all the unsuccessful players.
6. Play continues until there is only one player left who can name an “it” that fits all the words in the series.
7. In case of a tie, when no player can successfully name an “it,” the card is discarded and the original player draws a new one.

All PNP files updated and in final version for contest entry (Nov. 10, 2014).

To Reign Supreme is a 2 player area control war game that uses 18 cards. Each player battles to conquer 6 contested Territories, using the abilities of the territories to build their military and increase their wealth. Battles are conducted via a card based mechanic that limits chance and increases decision based strategy.

Each player has 5 Military Strategy cards and can choose 3 to use throughout the game. Each player starts with the same 5 Military Strategy cards, differing only in card color, and must choose the three that best match their intended strategy. The other two cards and the Rules cards are used to track Wealth, Military, and specific Battle stats for their country.

The game may be playable with 3 or 4 players with additional decks, although I haven't tried it out yet.
