As my enjoyment for playing board games increases I have always wanted to bring my family into one of my favorite hobbies.

The following list contains the games I have introduced to them so far and I hope to introduce more as time goes on.

1. Board Game: Crokinole [Average Rating:7.79 Overall Rank:75]
Over the 4th of July holiday, I brought this over for the family to enjoy. My father and step mother, their next door neighbors, and my brother and sister-in-law got to enjoy in the game.

This game was an instant hit. The rules took just a few minutes to explain and we were off. Everyone who played enjoyed the game and I was surprised to see how competitive everyone got. Throw in some alcohol and it was a blast.

My dad has made several comments since then that he really enjoyed the game. I hope to take this game back over soon.

2. Board Game: Ingenious [Average Rating:7.15 Overall Rank:333]
Last night I played two games with my father and step mother and first up was Ingenious. While waiting for my step mom, my dad and I decided to play a quick two player game. He picked it up fast and won the first game.

For the second game, my step mom joined in and she picked up the rules fast as well. I was surprised that when adding the 3rd player, for me at least, that my strategy changed. Instead of trying to go for quick points and max out one color, I tried to pace all the colors evenly.

My dad won the game, my step mom got 2nd, and I got 3rd. My dad had at least 2 colors maxed out and his lowest at 11, my step mom's lowest was 10, and I had the lowest with two colors at 9. Both really enjoyed this game. I think my dad has practice playing that Yahoo bubbles game and seeing patterns.

I can't wait to play this again and hopefully with a 4th person to see if game play changes again.

3. Board Game: Ticket to Ride [Average Rating:7.46 Overall Rank:126] [Average Rating:7.46 Unranked]
The second game of the night was Ticket to Ride. It took a few minutes to get everything set up and explain the rules. After that we were off... About mid-game I realized I had made a mistake regarding the rules when playing with 2-3 players that you can only use one of the two dual track routes. Everyone was fine with it so we continued.

All three of us started with two destinations cards. It took a few rounds to explain what different options are available and the objective of the game to trying to create routes to your destinations. After a few rounds it seemed like everyone understood how to play...

That was until my dad started laughing, and I looked at my step mom and made the comment that he wasn't paying attention to his destination cards and wasn't routing to anywhere specific. I was right and we all had a good laugh about it.

After several rounds my step mom picked up another 2-3 routes and my dad as well. I mentioned that you may lose points at the end if you don't successfully complete destination cards.

I had only two the entire game, one was for Chicago to Santa Fe and the other was Los Angeles to Miami.

I was the first one to only have 0,1,or 2 cars left so we each took one final round. Surprisingly my dad actually completed I believe three destination cards but was unable to complete two which put him in the low 60s for points. Next my step mom completed three to four as well, but lost 17 points for two incomplete destination cards leaving her in the mid 60s for points. Luckily I was able to complete both of my destination cards with one giving me 20 points! This put me over 70 points and with the longest route, would've bumped me even higher.

Both seemed to enjoy the game. My dad noted that he didn't like the game as much because he had to analyze every move and seemed too much like what he does at work. I told him that now that he has played once and understands the game that hopefully next time it will be more enjoyable. My step mom liked the game so much she bought the Europe version for her co-worker who loves board games as a Christmas present.

At the end of the night my dad made the comment that he liked the flicking game a lot. (Crokinole)

4. Board Game: Dominion [Average Rating:7.67 Overall Rank:72] [Average Rating:7.67 Unranked]
While on vacation I had the chance to play a game of Dominion with my dad. While I think the game was okay with two player, I am looking forward to playing with a few more players and see how they approach the game

I think I started too early for victory points. Towards the end of the game I had a nice stack I kept drawing mostly useless cards. It took my dad about half way through the game to start getting the hang of it. It didn't seem to be his kind of game.

The end of the game i had over 30 victory points and my dad was in the low 20s.

It is an interesting deck builder but it feels like the theme is detached and we were just playing the mechanics of the game. I still enjoyed the game.

5. Board Game: Escape: The Curse of the Temple [Average Rating:7.06 Overall Rank:424]
Tonight I had the chance to play Escape with my dad and step mom. It took a few minutes to explain the rules and one play through to get the hang of things. My step mom caught on quickly but my dad kept stopping to ask what to do.

We ended up playing three games. The first game we didn't find the exit, had only a handful of jewels and died a painful death as the temple collapsed on all 3 of us. The second game we had all but 6 jewels left and the exit but none of us were able to escape and once again died a horrible death. The third game was similar to the first game but this time we recovered more jewels though we had no way to escape.

This was a fun game and easy to teach. The best part was the 10 minute play time and everyone yelling they need a yellow!

I think my step mom like the game more than my dad.

I haven't had the chance to play with curses but looking forward to it and the additional challenges.

6. Board Game: Ugg-Tect [Average Rating:6.31 Overall Rank:2146]
The other game we played was Ugg-Tect. Even with only three people to play we all had a blast. We rotated between the three of us.

There were many comments of how fun it would be with alcohol and brought back over when family is in town. This was my dad's favorite game of the night. He got a little aggressive with hitting you but most of the time we were all in tears laughing.

This was a great game and I can't wait to play again. I also can't wait to introduce this games to others who have never played.

It was a blast and I recommend you giving it a try if you are looking for a light game and a good laugh.
