12 folks last week. Next Wednesday's current To Play list is currently empty unless Greenland shows up ninja. Oh, and maybe Corto.

This is a weekly list documenting the games played at a weekly Wednesday evening public game night in northern Kentucky. Join us any time, and let us know if you have any specific requests.

I was really pulling for the dog or the old man with his pants pulled up to his nipples to be Cinderella, but, well, Cinderella turned out to be, pretty much, Cinderella.

This is sort of like Tobago: The Card Game - in the sense that it's an induction game, rather than a deduction game. You've got a hand of potential Cinderellas, each with certain characteristics: they like to drink X, have Y colored hair, etc. Each card also has a restriction printed at the bottom, and on your turn you play one, applying its affect to the "cinderella" everyone is looking for - such as "is not a man". Each player has a veto to use as well. When everyone is down to 1 card, you see whose remaining card best fits the criteria.

We only played once, and while I love the idea, in practice I'm not sure there was enough control. Granted, it takes about 4 minutes to play, so I'd love to play a few more times - if for no other reason than to see that cat get picked as Cinderella.

While Too Many Cinderellas was short, some folks started up a game to play while we finished - or should I say, worked on the rules for TMC.

I don't really know what you call the Uluru mechanic/genre. I may post a review of Siebenpunkt in the next few weeks, and I'll ramble on more about it there, but, in a sense, I think Uluru is just a speed pick-up-and-deliver game.

In this one, Karesansui, it's reverse-Uluru as an auction. That is, you DO NOT want to complete any of the cards. Each turn you likely have to take more rocks - dragging you inevitably closer to having to fulfill some of the cards. It's a dutch auction and so the player who is willing to give up the least amount of rocks to get more rocks wins.

The first turn or two were neat. But then it drug on and on and on and on. It was like the Five Tribes argument - its AP squared - as you have to calculate your move in order to determine your bid, and, then, if things have changed on your turn, calculate again.

In this case, once someone underbids you, you have to recalculate where you'd like to place, and what you're willing to bid. The other players? Just sit back and eat your snacks.

We had played 6-players, so maybe less players is the key.

We followed up Karesansui with Chinatown. Each of the 5-players had played before, and it was an intense game. The negotiations were very firm, and there were several spite placements of tiles (mostly be me). The lack of early deals looked like it would lead to very small end game scores, but some how we got to our normal range of scores by the end. An emotionally draining game this time, but, well, less so for the winner!

Another game of DoM this week, but it didn't go over as well as before. This is a very hard game to teach.
