I've wanted to talk more about Decktet games lately and do a little recapping of what I've been into. The "shop talk" has seemed lower over the last few months so I thought a recurring geeklist like this might revive it somewhat. Decktet plays tend to be under reported as well (I assume) so it would be really nice to hear what people are playing and their thoughts on it!

Feel free to participate in any way you choose. A single entry per person only please!

Plays (# last month/total #) bolded = new

Hermit - 1/22
Oh Quay - 1/11
Playtest - 1

October was not a great month for the Decktet and me. I've been extra busy with my second year of grad school so my plays in general are few.

I did get to play one game of Hermit (2 player) which is becoming my all time favorite trick taking game, not just Decktet game mind you. Half of my recorded Hermit plays are 2 player and that ratio is only going to increase. It's the kind of card game I could play almost every day.

I also played a single game of Oh Quay which was pleasant as usual.

My wife and I tested a variant for Parade that I've been thinking on. Just came across a variant for Parade - UPDATED. I had been considering a way to play parade with the Decktet and another user posted their ideas. I ran with it but have only played 2 hands of it so far. I think it could be quite good with 3-5 players using a double deck. It worked with a single deck for the 2 of us and I enjoyed it. The decisions weren't overly obvious and there was some room for clever or mischievous play. Jess was a bit bored though.

Biscuit - 1/6

I haven't had much of a chance to play the Decktet as I'm in the middle of my semester and just finished my PhD prelim, and on Friday I am giving my Proposal presentation. *exhale* I don't even know what I'm doing here posting about the Decktet. I guess I can't look away... I do love a game of Biscuit though. Have you tried that one yet?

I've been thinking about my own Decktet game design I'm currently working on and hope over Thanksgiving break I can work on it some more.

I will keep track of what I do end up playing on the weekends this month and report back. =)

I played a few games while waiting for telecons to start. This is currently the only Decktet game that I've ever played, but I've only had the deck for a month or so.

Adam's game has been fun every time I've played it, although it still needs work. The biggest thing (I think) is that the starting tableau needs to be revised. We Tried out using the Pawns and Courts for the starting board.

Also last month, a game of Magnate.
