My SS this year has been on the ball! First he/she messaged me the day after it finalised to say that a game from the "must haves" on my wishlist had been ordered and then, clearly they have been checking for a reply on my profile because they replied very promptly, and said my present was on it's way.

Today when I arrived home there was a package on my doorstep waiting for me. I'm not one to wait for Christmas day when it comes to SS so I opened it immediately. When they told me I was getting a "must have" I had tried to guess what it might be but had discounted some because I didn't think they were available in Australia yet. Shows what I know!

I opened it to find La Isla! One of the two Feld games from Essen this year. This game is very high on my list of 2014 Essen games to try and it will help me to (re)complete my Alea challenge.

Thanks heaps Secret Santa!

BONUS! The Secret Santa that keeps on giving... My SS contacted me the other day saying that something else small was on the way, and that it was something else marked as a "must have on my wishlist". Well that could be only one thing: a Star Realms exp pack. I thought it might be the Star Realms: Gambit Set - and it was. It arrived today. Thanks heaps again SS - this really rocks. I'm very into Star Realms at the moment and have wanted to try this for a while, but didn't know where to get it. I really appreciate you going out of your way to find it and get it for me - as if La Isla wasn't enough! THANKS!

I recieved a parcel today from someone whom I now believe was my AU/NZ Secret Santa! (I can't be 100% sure, but it definitly seems to be a Santa of Australian origin, which I suppose can't be entirely ruled out from the BGG international Secret Santa either)

Not 1, but 2 gifts in adorable packaging with important notices to ensure the correct order of operations...

...and inside (I went ahead and opened them, since the notices regarding opening instructions only appeared to refer the the relative order, not the absolute timing...whistle)

Ankh-Morpork!! A game I've really enjoyed and had sitting near the top of my wishlist for some time!... Plus a surprise Hanabi, A Haigh's chocolate frog, a delightful christmas card and an invitation to attend the Terry Pratchett convention in Parramatta next April!

Now that it's arrived...I can't believe all the clues I missed!!!

Santa's first email alluded to a distrust of elves... and in his second email he used many punes (even referring them to a play on words), referred to the magical and dangerous land of fourecks (which I assumed was my international Santa referring to Australia by the particularly infamous beer, xxxx) and, after wishing me a season that is jolly and other words that end in 'olly', and this is the one I can't believe didn't click, signed off as 'The Hogfather's Temporary Replacement'.

Now, I'm not a super-massive Pratchett fan, but I've read a couple of the books and seen at least three of the movies...which is enough to know that I should have known better!

Thanks Santa! You made it really fun, and made me really happy!!

All right, several years late, but my current Santa (2016) pointed out that I hadn't updated this entry.

So here is the update! Opened and played several times by now!

-.-.-.-

It's here!

It's arrived!

But I have no idea what it is!

I'll be having to wait until Christmas afternoon to find out.

I'll update here once I know!

Thanks Santa!

Aussie secret Santa for best secret Santa!

I got Seasons and Machi Koro! and I've been assured there's another package on the way!

My Aussie Santa has been so amazing this year. After both my general and AU/NZ targets have ignored me, my Aussie Santa has been so awesome, that I'm still in for next year!

Not only has he been very communicative and fun with leaving me hints to figure out the games he sent (of which only one of my guesses was correct lol), he sent me so many great things that showed he was really paying attention. I'm currently visiting his great country, but unfortunately quite far away from him. Just before my trip, I managed to receive two gifts and brought them with me to play with my Aussie friends.

First was Machi Koro which came with some promo cards Gaming Megastore (and I love promo stuff!). We've played a few games, and its very fun and quick. Ive lost horrendously each time, but its still very fun.

The next was Seasons. I looked at this game first because of the art (one of the artists for Seasons worked one of my favourite games, Tokaido), and then I saw TomVasel review it on YouTube and the mechanics looked really fun. After a few plays, its even more fun than I had originally suspected. These are the exact kind of mechanics that get my gaming gears turning. So happy for this one!

But that wasn't all! Remember how Tokaido was one of my favourite games? My Santa revealed himself and let me know that the last game is the expansion Tokaido: Crossroads. My gaming group absolutely loves push-your-luck style games, and I'm sure this will be a huge hit. I'll head back to NZ on the 13th where this game is waiting for me.

Thanks again so much

I was playing games at my weekly gaming session at Northside Gamers last night and one of our members - Sean from Advent Games interrupted to hand me a copy of Black Fleet I'd pre-ordered.

But that wasn't all. He then handed me several packages - "These are from your Secret Santa - Merry Christmas mate!".

Last Will

AND the expansion Last Will: Getting Sacked!

Awesome! They'll definitely be played in the next few weeks.

Thank you for your amazing generosity Secret Santa! Christmas has certainly arrived early for me.

Christmas sure came early for me this year! I arrived home today to find a large package on my doorstep. My heart raced as I tore open the contents, revealing Five Tribes - a game I had pined after since release. It was like Santa knew...

It was definitely one of the more expensive games on my wishlist so I did not expect to be gifted it at all. On top of all that there was a message attached saying, 'another one is on the way'.

I'm overwhelmed by the generosity of my secret Santa. Whoever you are, if you are reading this - thank you from the bottom of my heart. You have made this humble geek an incredibly happy manchild

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ONE AND ALL!

Hooray a package from Santa! (via Milsims)

It was fairly small so I was thinking back to what on my wishlist would have fit in the box... maybe Fairy Tale or Hanabi...

Then I open it and lo and behold, it's Tokaido: Crossroads! Good surprise

I've played quite a lot of Tokaido this year (first on Board Game Arena, and then I enjoyed it enough to buy the physical version) so this will be a welcome addition! I look forward to playing this expansion and see how it improves the game play!

I also managed to snag one of the Felicia Day promo cards for the game when it was released in the BGG store, and I have some metal Japanese-style coins on the way thanks to a recent Kickstarter.

Tokaido is one of the games I plan to make a foam-core insert for, so having the expansions first will certainly help with that!

Thanks Santa!

Earlier in the week, I went to check my post office box after being away for work for a few days and there was a parcel!!

I was expecting a couple of things from kickstarter, and there wasn't anything to suggest it was a Secrety Santa thing so I opened it and BAM! THIS GAME!!!!!

I was SO SO SO EXCITED!

After leaving a message on my profile for Santa, I opened the game and learnt the rules so I could play with my friends as soon as possible

Santa, just to let you know, my friends came over today and we played 4 games and had heaps of fun. It was the perfect game to play as we sat in front of fans to keep cool on this super hot day!

Thank-you for your thought and generosity during this holiday season, hope you have a fantastic Christmas as well! (Sorry this took so long to post - my friend hosted a board game birthday party at my place this weekend and it's been chaos!!!)

Hi people

My generous Santa sent me a package which I will leave until Christmas Day.

It had a strange panel of instructions on the front telling the recipient to open it to check the contents. Well lucky I wasn't home. My wife saw it all and taped it back up. She told me I'm very spoilt.. again!! I mean, I'm spoilt again, not she told again.

I did sneak a shake, don't tell anyone, and it was heavy but nothing really rattled!? .. hmm?!?! useless clue there!

Merry Christmas everyone

Update:
Well I finally got inside the package yesterday morning and then had a crazy day with family.

I love my pirate games and this one was right on top of my list.
But also in the package was

Thanks to my very generous Santa. I was spoilt just like my wife said.

Merry Christmas to all.

Big Brown Box with the same "strange panel of instructions" balzi's wife noticed (but which I didn't until after I had signed for the box and walked out).

Pick up mum, sort everything out, remember the box in the car, sit down and open it up and voila - Five Tribes - you little ripper!!

Guess what I'll be playing tomorrow? surprise caravan

My Secret Santa was kind enough to send me this game!

As I used to play Bridge semi-competitively, this was a game I had an eye for ever since I heard about it! So glad I'm finally able to get my hands on it.

I've played it a couple of times since I received the package and the game did not disappoint. Requires a change in mindset from how one would claim tricks, but the change is interesting.

Thanks Santa!

My dear AU/NZ Santa told me that he needed to get "little buggers under control", I was thinking that he was referring to the elves that works for Santa. He was so nice to chat with me and ended my hourly routine on F5. I had so much fun for being taunted and I am able to enjoy Christmas this year! Long story short fast forward to this morning:

Hmm... I'm wondering what is it?

2 gifts and a lovely note! *heart pounding* (Hmm... critters in the box???)

Unpacked carefully and found these lovely games!

Mice and Mystics & Mice and Mystics: Heart of Glorm!!! OMG!! I'm so spoiled!! Not only the base game but with the expansion too!

Thank you so much Tim my AU/NZ Santa! How did you know that I loved that game on first sight and been thinking about it since released? It's like you know what I really like! What an adorable game for this Christmas! I am spoiled!

UPDATE #4:

So the New Years period was crazy, the tramping (hiking) trip had to be cancelled as I wasn't feeling too well, and a good thing too because I ended up rather unwell and was admitted into hospital twice! The good thing though was that the days in hospital resulted in me being able to play Flash Point with my boyfriend on the food-tray table next to my hospital bed (it just fit). We had a great time playing it and it really made my time there so much better - so thank you Santa I really should have taken a picture of the game but it doesn't really cross your mind to take photos when you're in a hospital bed - anyway I'm sure this one will become a house favourite now I'm home

UPDATE #3:

Firstly let me apologise to Santa for not updating until now. I like to take the time to write these posts properly and I just haven't felt like I could do it your gifts justice, in fact I still don't feel like my post will be good enough but I won't be able to post again until at least the second week of January.

The first of your presents was opened on 23rd December when we had our Flat Christmas though this year we decided to invite another friend (and his girlfriend) who came over all the time until recently (when he acquired said girlfriend). We didn't want to open presents in front of them so waited until after they'd left before opening anything...so we ended up opening presents at 1am. I decided we should open one of your presents which turned out to be Ticket to Ride Map Collection: Volume 2 – India & Switzerland!!! Unfortunately I had to work the next morning so we didn't open the shrink or anything, but put it on the shelf where it sat glowing.

So what happened between then and now? Well, work, car crash (a guy crashed into our car just as my boyfriend was coming to pick me up from work on Christmas Eve), car trip to see relatives for Christmas, no internet (baaah), journey back, have 'alternative Christmas' with boyfriend on evening of 28th since we spent Christmas apart which allowed me to open my second gift from Santa which was: Flash Point: Fire Rescue!!!! Woo-hoooo!

Now I'd love to post pictures but they will have to wait as I'm currently packing to go away for New Years, and also packing for a tramping trip which is straight after followed by staying with 2 different sets of relatives...when will I be able to play my new and beautiful games?!

I would really just like to say thank you to my wonderful Santa - you have been so fantastic to me throughout and I feel like you really looked closely at my wishlist, comments, and letter to pick out things that would make me the most happy. Thank you for your generosity but also for the substantial amount of effort that you put into this whole thing for me.

I hope you all had a TERRIFIC Christmas! Especially you Santa

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The other day Santa told me that my pressie had been dispatched by ozgameshop, so I could be on the lookout for it ninja

This morning I was in the back garden with my dog when I heard banging: was my cat was being excessively naughty (a definite possibility) or could it be the courier???

I put the dog inside (the courier is extremely afraid of all dogs) and then ran around to the front of the house (we don't use the front door so it's always dead-bolted - I couldn't risk the delay!). When I got to the front I found.......the courier with a package for meeeeee!!!! laugh

I plan on waiting till Christmas to open it however I did see through a hole in the side that it wasn't wrapped, luckily I looked away fast enough not to ruin the surprise. My boyfriend agreed to wrap it for me this evening, so all that's left for me to do is buy a Christmas tree to put it under.

This is all so fun and exciting - THANK YOU AU/NZ Secret Santa!!! I enjoyed hearing from you and I will update this post after Christmas.

UPDATE:

Ok so Rion finally got an opportunity to wrap what was inside the parcel. And it turns out there were TWO presents! wowwowwow

I stood them up to take the photo so you could see them in all their glory. Don't they look GLORIOUS?! Bask in their glory!!!!!

My Santa also let me know a little something else is on its way and has recommended I open it at least a day or two before Christmas (so it may be something Christmassy), and since I am very obedient I shall comply

UPDATE #2:

Yay! Yesterday afternoon the little something else arrived and it turns out it wasn't so little. To make it even cooler, the stamps on it were of the Christmas Island crab migration (I have always been fascinated by those crabs):

zoomed in -->
opened -->

So since we suspected it was a Christmas book, we waited to open it with our flatmates as it is a flat tradition of sorts to read them together. We opened the wrapping to find "An Aussie Night Before Christmas"! It now stands proudly next to our other books on the shelf:

with its compadres -->

Thank you very much Santa for this thoughtful addition, it is greatly appreciated. It means a lot to know how closely you looked at my (rather extensive) letter. As you can see the Christmas books we read are children's books, so you were right on the money! We had a laugh at the card (Santa and his Reindeer Surf Life-Saving), very much in the beacy spirit of AU/NZ Santas laugh

Thanks again, I feel very fortunate to have had you as my Santa! I hope your Santa treats you as well as you have treated me Merry Christmas!!!

Wow, thanks Santa!

I've had a very active Aus/NZ Santa this year, and a very generous one too. When he messaged me, he told me to expect TWO parcels - one especially for me, and one especially for the kids game group that I plan to run next year (many of the games on my wishlist were for the kids game group).

I'm not home in Australia at the moment, so it's been up to my mum to keep me up to date about the parcels that arrive.

A little while ago, she messaged me this photo:

She usually opens boxes addressed to me so that she can let me know that things I ordered arrived safely, and she was too quick for me to ask her to leave this one for Christmas! Jaipur is a 2-player game that I asked for specifically to play with my mum, and I'm so excited to get home and play it. The other two goodies are for the kids (even though there's a second parcel incoming?? Wow!).

Yesterday, my mum messaged me another photo, of an Amazon box this time, asking if she should open it. I said yes because Santa had told me it would be giftwrapped, and she sent me a teaser photo of the present and the note:

Santa told me this one wasn't on my wishlist, but asked me some questions to see if it would be a good fit for the game group next year. So I don't know exactly what it could be, but my gut is telling me Robot Turtles (I don't know of any other kids games teaching programming concepts). It's a game that I've actually been really interested in for a while, so excellent pick Santa (if that's what it is...only a few weeks until I know for sure!)

Any other speculation about what it could be?

Thanks for all the Christmas cheer, Santa, you're the best

So I find myself in the midst of an enigma wrapped in a mystery. I have entered both the BGG exchange and the Australia/NZ exchange this year.

After not hearing a peep from Santa at all, Ikusa appeared on my doorstep today. So I'm initially posting this in both lists and hoping that my SS sends a message or identifies him/herself.

So Santa- whoever you are- thanks heaps for the fantastic present!

I had been eagerly awaiting my package after receiving a geekmail from santa with a usps tracking number and a hint "because that's the only place I could find one of your presents".

All i can saw is HOLY COW!!!!!

This package is HUGE!!!!! It's on par with the last Rivet Wars package i got from the kickstarter which had oodles and oodles of sweet sweet plastic miniatures in it.

I opened it up without hesitation.....

I found

I was beyond overwhelmed.... I've wanted this game for awhile now.

I subsided my joy and decided to delve deeper into the box.

I came across

Holy crap.... By this point i was screaming with joy. This was a kickstarter i wanted to back but couldn't due to funds. Luckily, no one else was home to here me screaming with joy...

Dare i delve again? Once again, this freaking box is HUGE!!!!

Up the side of the box i found

The game i have wanted to get for soooo long to get my wife into worker placements. So happy!!!!

Man, there can't be much more in here right? One last time.

NO WAY!!!!!!!! My wife and i are AVID Mass Effect fans. It was a game that brought us closer when we were dating. This was the icing on the cake, that is for sure!!!

(Sorry for the horizontal image )

Whoever you are Santa, THANKYOU SOOOOO MUCH!!!! You've certainly made my year a damn awesome one! Merry Christmas EVERYONE!

***edited now I know the other parcel was from US Santa***

Santa's elf (who looked suspiciously like the Postman - man, they're good at disguising themselves!) dropped off my Aussie Santa's gift today. It was a bright yellow envelope that my not-so-secret-Facebook-stalker-Santa later on said I could open...

Good things come in small packages!

Inside was the out of print version of Necromancer's Island...

and...

Leaders of Small World

We love Small World, so these were very appreciated & will make awesome additions to our family game time. Speaking of which, it's about to rain & the family are itching to do something, so we will probably have a go with them this afternoon.

Thanks (not so secret) Santa!

I'm a big fan of abstract games and have been trying to slowly get hold of and review everything that's available. This is one of the Huch line that I hadn't managed to pick up, but from the mysterious appearance of an unmarked box in my mail, I've deduced that my secretive Secret Santa has been working behind the scenes.

Also in the box was the cute kids game:

which is perfectly aimed to get some play around the house.

Woo! Thanks Santa

This year I am lucky enough to be spoilt and taunted by two plotting Santa’s. . .

I know you wanted me to have something to open Christmas morning . . . Sorry Santa; I do way too much online shopping so yesterday afternoon when I found a LARGE parcel on my door step I didn't hesitate to open it . . .

Wow its one of the BIG BOXES ! ! !

Carcassonne Big Box 5

In addition to this gift my Aus/NZ Secret Santa has also had a hand in my BGG Secret Santa's gift . . .
Thus my BGG Secret Santa had a hand in helping my Aus/NZ Secret Santa . . .
My BGG Secret Santa with the help of Aus/NZ Secret Santa sent . . .
Arrr its all getting mixed up

MASSIVE THANK YOU to both my Secret Santa's who have most definitely ensured my holidays will be jam packed with quality game time! ! !

Also just to show you a TINY touch of my Santa's taunting:

From Santa

There, how was that..
Elf: Well apart from promising her to get a gift by email, it was very good. You are a good man Santa!

Santa: what? Email doesn't do gifts. Is it like platinum express? You can only use it for packages up to a certain size?

Nevermind.. Gabrielle's gift will barely fit in a suitcase.

So what are we doing later?

E: don't know.. Scrabble winter edition?
S: yeah maybe..
Hey, do we just leave the dictator 4000 on?
E: oh no.. Um hit send up on the top there.. Yeah, the big red one... Perfe...[end transmission]

Now I need to get my new and crafty gift in the mail this week - So I can see a post from my target get added to this list

After a horrible nights sleep look what I woke up to....

Taking great care to open it...

There was my gift from Santa - with a nice note too.

A quick compare against a few boxes in my dads collection I see it is nothing I had guessed it might be, and it is not in his collection - I'm so looking forward to opening this.

Please Santa can I open it early?

Mu aunt is flying me out to Brisbane and so unless I take it with me (yes it is light and small enough to pack)I won't be able to open it on the day.

Pretty please?

p.s. - to make the day even better the Decimator I pre-ordered in October just arrived.

Oh... now I have to go to work... way to ruin a great day

Thanks you santa for the game

Monday morning, bright and early, I dragged myself wearily from bed and shuffled to the front door to let my very desperate dog out to do his business... but there was a problem: the screen door wouldn't open no matter how many times my poor little pup shoved it.

I rubbed the sleep from my eyes and decided to actually use them, and discovered an obstruction leaning against the door. Santa had been in the night and hand delivered this great big package:

Attached was a nice note from my now revealed Santa:

I've resisted the urge to open it so far... but I don't think my resolve is going to last until Christmas. I mean, I need to know if I've got anything good to bring to family gatherings, right? In any case, updates to come once I've broken down and dug around inside.

Thanks Santa!

Update: my curiosity got the better of me, and I had to tear into the package last night. Inside the box, buried in a pool of packing peanuts, I found this:

Wow! Coup, Machi Koro and Samurai Spirit! surprise The last of which I didn't even know was available yet. Thank you so much, Santa. You've outdone yourself! These games are all going to get plenty of play over the holidays, I'm sure.
