I was checking to see if I'd missed the most recent MMP Geeklist, and saw that Gamesmeister added a comment to the September list a couple weeks ago noting that he wouldn't be able to take the list going forward. Since nobody seems to have claimed it yet, and I figured a lot of people may not have noticed, I decided to pound out the Geeklist for one month and then hand it off to anybody who wants it (I don't think I can be counted on to put up two P500 Geeklists a month).

Enjoy! Also, I don't follow MMP the way I follow GMT and I haven't played any of their big series, so if anything I say here is laughably wrong don't hesitate to correct me.

Since I'm doing this for a month, though, I figure I'll try to standardize this list's appearance to be more similar to the two GMT lists. So, I'm putting announcements down here as the first item.

General News:

-Two old MMP titles, A Victory Lost and Warriors of God, are getting surprise reprint runs. Potentially joining them later is The Devil's Cauldron, one of MMP's most valuable out of print titles.
-ASL Starter Kit #3 has received a reprint and is once again in-stock.
-MMP's big one-day fall sale will be taking place on Nov. 21, the week before Black Friday. Grey Friday, if you will. See all the titles on sale here: http://myemail.constantcontact.com/It-s-Almost-Black-Friday-...

P500 News:

-A new ASL module is in the pipeline! Hakkaa Päälle was announced last week, and like all new ASL content instantly crushed its preorder goal.
-Beyond the Rhine, the latest in the long-running OCS series, has made the cut
-ASL Action Pack #10 should be arriving to customers right now. The next game scheduled to print is VCS Salerno (which also made the cut this month), following by Kawaguchi's Gamble, which is being moved up despite not having hit its order threshold.

One Line Definition: A new Finnish module for ASL, providing them with a full order of battle and many new scenarios.

Date Added: November 2014

Numbers: 1096/720 needed

Change: New!

Percentage to publication: 152%

The Company Line:

Hakkaa Päälle! (Advanced Squad Leader Module 14) provides the ASL player with the complete order of battle for the Finns, including every major vehicle, gun, and squad type that saw combat during World War II. Chapter H distills years of research into pages of detailed notes on the guns and vehicles involved. Included along with three new Finnish squad types are the revised Chapter A rules to handle them.

Finnish ordnance and armor throughout this period are represented from the single Landsverk armored car that was the only combat-worthy Finnish AFV at the start of the Winter War, through the end of the Lapland War, when Finnish armor included captured Russian AFVs and Sturmgeschuetz purchased from Germany.

Hakkaa Päälle! also contains new vehicles and Chapter H notes for the Russians. Fan-propelled sleds (aerosans, both armed and not), ad-hoc armed LANO trucks, early war versions of the T-26 (the two-turreted T-26 M31 and the flamethrower-armed OT-26, among others), up-armed T-28s, and the experimental SMK and T-100 tanks are all included. Additionally, a number of Lend-Lease Vehicles (Lee, Matilda II, Valentine VIII, Churchill III, etc.) now see Russian counter form. To simulate the lackluster performance of the Russian forces during the Winter War, SSR-invoked rules for Russian Early War Doctrine are included.

Captured French tanks such as the 38H 735(f) and the 35-S 739(f) used by the Germans in Finland are included in German colors, along with similar German AFV counters whose availability to ASL players was previously limited.

Player aid dividers include the National Capabilities Chart with the new Finnish squad types and other updates, backed by the standard OBA flowchart. Also enclosed are new rules for Prepared Fire Zones and Light Woods, transforming the battlefield for mapboards old and new. The heavily wooded mapboard 52 completes the package.

Hakkaa Päälle! is not a complete game. Ownership of the Advanced Squad Leader Game System is required for play.

Contents:

1 8˝×22˝ Map (52)
4 Countersheets
16 ASL Scenarios
1 Chapter H for Finnish Vehicles/Guns and Russian Lend-Lease Vehicle/Guns
1 Rules Supplement, with updates pertinent to Hakkaa Päälle!
4 Chapter Dividers, including a revised National Capabilities Chart with new Finnish squad types, and the OBA Flowchart

Retail Price:
$96.00
Pre-order Price:
$72.00

MMP Website: http://www.multimanpublishing.com/tabid/59/ProductID/308/Def...

Comments: Like pretty much all ASL material, to my understanding, the P500 is a mere formality for the valiant Finns.

One line definition: Beyond the Rhine depicts the campaign for Northwest Europe from September 1944 to April 1945

Date Added: September 2014

Numbers: 646/640 needed

Change: +154

Percentage to publication: 101%

The Company Line:

Beyond the Rhine depicts the campaign for Northwest Europe from September 1944 to April 1945. It begins with the German Army reeling from a string of near-fatal defeats, and in full retreat to the safety of the West Wall where it hopes to make a stand. The Allies, flush with victory, believe one more push will bring them home for Christmas.

The expected walk-over was not to be, and players will find either army a challenge to command. Allied material superiority is (mostly) balanced by German tenacity, rugged terrain, and lousy weather. Defensive-minded players will be happiest playing the Germans, but players of all temperaments will discover that there is still plenty of torque left in the Axis even at this late stage of the war. The Allies will not cross the Rhine without a tough fight!

Beyond the Rhine is a big game, with 3.5-mile hexes, 3.5-day turns, and counters for units from battalions up to divisions. At this scale the various Western Front battles—Market-Garden, Hürtgen, Bulge, Nordwind, Remagen, etc.—have an operational ebb and flow, but can also be viewed in relation to the whole front. A comprehensive game like this one, covering the entire Western Front, was long overdue.

Special rules in this 14th game of the Operational Combat Series have been carefully designed to recreate this fascinating campaign. They include:

Random events similar to what are found in the award-winning DAK. These cover things like Fuel Shortages, Arty Ammo Stockpiles, Lost Couriers, Railway Strikes, and Dambuster Raids. The 58 possible events add a lot of historical flavor but require very little rules overhead.

The importance and difficulty of the Rhine crossings are distilled into rules allowing the bridges to be blown and repaired, and pontoons to be emplaced.

Background effects of Allied air interdiction are simple and elegant (built into the Terrain Effects Chart and Weather), but the player does have the option to switch some of these planes to normal barrages and sweeps.

The strategic significance of the Ruhr and the Saar, of clearing the left bank of the Rhine, and of major ports such as Antwerp are reflected by simple economic effects and the game’s “Broadfront” restrictions on US supply placement and usage.

The Wacht am Rhein counter-offensive is recreated by simple mechanics for off-map buildup and operational surprise.

Many options are included for players wanting even more realism. For instance, there are rules for German Kampfgruppen and extra restrictions on the plethora of Allied independent units.

Beyond the Rhine features three monster-sized campaigns that use a 44x66-inch map layout and over 1,000 combat units. Also included are several smaller scenarios, including a 9-turn Bulge game played on a special map (otherwise, portions of all four maps would be needed).

Campaign game and scenario info:
Grand Campaign: 4 maps, 70 turns
Fall of ‘44 (Montgomery): 2 maps, 26 turns
Fall of ‘44 (Bradley): 2 maps, 26 turns
Operation Queen: 1 map, 9 turns
Bulge Campaign: 4 maps, 40 turns
A Time for Trumpets: 1 map, 9 turns
Nordwind: 1 map, 13 turns
Endkampf Campaign: 4 maps, 24 turns
Spring of ‘45 (Montgomery): 2 maps, 24 turns
Spring of ‘45 (Bradley): 2 maps, 24 turns.

Components:

OCS rulebook (version 4.1a)
BTR rulebook
Scenario booklet with 10 scenarios total (including 2 one-map scenarios)
Axis and Allied Tables booklets
Two OCS Charts and Tables Booklets
Five Full Color Game Maps
Eight countersheets
Two Play Aid Cards
Box and Dice

Retail Price: $134
Pre-Order Price: $100

MMP website: http://www.multimanpublishing.com/tabid/59/ProductID/278/Def...

Comments: The next big OCS title cruises past its target, surprising nobody. Look for it to ship in 2015. Get in now before it sells out, costs $500 on Ebay, and "going Beyond the Rhine" becomes a lame BGG inside joke.

One line definition: Company level game of the first 10 days of the Normandy Invasion for the Standard Combat Series.

Date added: June 2014

Numbers: 800/650 needed

Change: +55

Percentage to preorder: 123%

The Company Line:

Like It Never Snows did for Operation Market Garden, Day of Days takes on the the first 10 days of the Normandy landings at the company level. The Allied objectives are to land successfully and push far enough off the beaches to guarantee a rapid advance into France. The Axis player needs to either defeat the initial landings or plug them up to create a stalemate.

This game is both massive and extremely playable, giving players a unique appreciation for the issues involved at the beginning of the invasion. The importance of the initial air-drops, the real potential for brutal German counterattacks, and the need to get off the beaches quickly, all these come into sharp focus within the clean and fast-playing framework of the Standard Combat Series. Players can tackle the US landings separately as single-map scenarios, the Commonwealth landings on two maps, and of course there is the Whole Enchilada.

One line definition: An all new edition of this popular Area Movement System game contains updated components, new cover art and the Fortress: Holland variant

Date added: June 2014

Numbers: 350/515 needed

Change: +8

Percentage to preorder: 68%

From the designer:

MMP may be calling it a reprint simply because the game has been out of print. They will confirm all details. However, as I understand things . . .

* All new artwork. You've seen the box lid. The rest will follow.

* The current version of the rules which I rate as "second edition" rather than simply "updated" and definitely not "reprinted."

* Rules and counters for the Fortress Holland variant. This was not a part of the 2003 edition. It was initially published in Operations years later.

From top to bottom this is significant new content.

The Company Line:

Monty's Gamble: Market Garden is a reprinting of MMP’s highly acclaimed area movement game on Operation Market Garden simulating the Allied attack in Holland and the German response. The Allies must land paratroopers, seize key bridges, and get XXX Corps up "Hell's Highway" to relieve the British paratroopers in Arnhem, all while the Germans are attempting to break the supply line.

Monty's Gamble: Market Garden features a semi-simultaneous movement system which provides maximum interaction and requires players to make tough choices as every move they make may be countered by their opponent. Both players will have pressing needs up and down "Hell's Highway" but may only address one at a time—hopefully before the variable turn length causes the turn to end!

Also included in this all new updated version of Monty's Gamble is Fortress Holland: 1940. Originally published in Operations Special Magazine #2 this expansion contains 100+ counters and rules and depicts the German invasion of Holland from May 10 to May 12 1940.

Components:
1 unmounted mapsheet
3 countersheets
1 rulebook
4 setup cards
4 six sided dice

Retail Price:
$60.00
Pre-order Price:
$45.00

MMP website:
http://www.multimanpublishing.com/tabid/59/ProductID/276/Def...

Comments: Slow going for Monty's men in Arnhem. This may have to wait a while, unless it's accelerated due to its reprint status. The fact that MMP is reprinting two titles without even putting them on this list is a reason for optimism on that front.

One line definition: Area impulse game on the pacific. Why is it not popular?

Date added: 2008

Numbers: 447/530

Change: +2

Percentage to publication: 84%

The Company Line:

Kawaguchi's Gamble: Edson's Ridge covers the area of Edson's Ridge and the surrounding jungle just south of Henderson Airfield on the island of Guadalcanal during September 1942. The Japanese, as part of a complicated multi-pronged attack, sent three battalions, nearly 3000 men, charging towards the ridge protecting the airfield. Almost 800 Paramarines and Raiders defended the ridge with amazing courage and, despite suffering horrible casualties, kept from being overrun and saved both the airfield and possibly the Marine presence on Guadalcanal. The Japanese are often cited as having lost nearly 80% of their men attacking the ridge.
Kawaguchi's Gamble: Edson's Ridge is five turns long, each turn is a variable length of alternating impulses. The game length between experienced gamers is 2.5 to 3 hours.

Retail Price: $44.00

One line definition: Another use of the fun, easy and accessible A Victory Lost system. This time is 1945 and the Victory is Imminent.

Date Added: April 2013

Numbers: 368/480

Change: +5

Percentage to publication: 77%

The Company Line:

Konigsberg 1945 (K45) is a simulation of the momentous battle for East Prussia. Originally published with a very limited print run by Three Crowns Games in 2011, MMP is thrilled to bring this very well received game to a much wider audience. Konigsberg 1945 uses the award-winning game system used in A Victory Lost and A Victory Denied, but with new rules for air units, refugees, atrocities, Volksturm, and even the Admiral Hipper cruiser.

This game is more than just cool parts, as Konigsberg 1945 features the classic battle between a powerful attacker trying to defeat a "fire-brigade" defense. The Soviet Army was at its peak as a fighting machine in World War Two. The German Army is but a shell of its former self, but still has several units which fought as well as any did during the entire war.

Konigsberg 1945 is a two-player board game featuring a very easy to use ruleset for the veteran and is quite easy to learn for someone new to this game system. It is not an easy task, however, to overcome a stout defender or to stop an aggressive attacker!

Konigsberg 1945 contains:

1 22" x 34" full-color map (take a look!)
1 sheet of 1/2" diecut counters
1 16 page well illustrated rulebook
2 player aid cards
2 dice

Retail Price:
$42.00
Pre-order Price:
$31.50

MMP website: http://www.multimanpublishing.com/tabid/59/ProductID/238/Def...

Comments: Plunking along slowly. It uses a similar system to A Victory Lost, so perhaps the reprint of that title will spur interest in this one.

One line definition: Operation Typhoon (WWII East Front 1941) with some tweaks. Hidden units, hidden objectives... but hidden to both! You will know the strength of a unit when you attack it and you will know the impact of your lost (or victory) when you suffer it.

Date Added: November 2009

Numbers: 490/560

Change: +4

Percentage to publication: 87%

The Company Line:

In October 1941, the German Army launched Operation Typhoon – the last major German offensive of the year. In an all-out attempt to defeat Russia and end World War Two, the Germans managed to see the spires of the Kremlin as their high water mark for both this battle and for the war. Over two million men fought in this desperate battle that would decide the war and the future of mankind.

Masahiro Yamazaki, the designer of the MMP games Red Star Rising and Stalingrad Pocket has designed his greatest game on this great conflict—Last Stand; The Battle for Moscow 1941-1942. Using all the tricks in his designer’s bag, Mas has made this titanic struggle playable but without sacrificing a great sense of history. Offering 3 scenarios to show different aspects of the campaign, and a unique way of showing the plight of the Soviet morale as a nation faces possible complete military defeat, all in a manageable size, Last Stand is a game that has no competitor.

Components:
- One 34 by 22 map
- 560 ½” counters
- 32 page full color rulebook
- 2 player aids
- Solitaire Rating: very good to excellent
- Complexity: Medium

One line definition: A new series using variable combat values for units. The first game is on Salerno.

Date added: Unknown

Numbers: 552/550

Change: +17

Percentage to publication: 100%

The Company Line:

MMP is proud to announce the creation of a new series of games, the "Variable Combat Series (VCS)." The Series opener is VCS Salerno, a game undertaking the nearly impossible task of depicting the 1943 Allied invasion of Southern Italy and places all of the invading forces on a single mapsheet (Note: The designer says it's probably going to be two maps now, due to the addition of some charts).

The main invasion, Operation Avalanche, is portrayed on Map Section A which is 1/3 of the map at 1 mile per hex. The east coast, Map Section B, is also at 1 mile per hex and contains strategic ports, highways and the main Axis airbase of Foggia. The last 1/3, Map Section C, is drawn up at 3 miles per hexside and is used by for the other two main operations, Operation Slapstick, the capture of Taranto, and Operation Baytown, the methodical capture of the Calabrian peninsula (toe of Italy).

Retail Price: $42.00
Pre-Order Price: $31.50

MMP website: http://www.multimanpublishing.com/tabid/59/ProductID/83/Defa...

Components:

- VCS Standard and Salerno Exclusive rulebooks
- charts/tables booklet

One line definition: The Warriors of God system goes to feudal Japan for more chaos and nobles killing.

Date added: October 2009

Numbers: 497/560 needed

Change: +14

Percentage to publication: 89%

The Company Line:
Long considered one of the greatest games to ever be published in Japan, Warriors of Japan will feature much of the same system as we have seen in Warriors of God. The game covers the Nanboku-cho period of Japanese history and simulates one of the most dynamic and important periods in Japanese history.

From 1336-1392, all of Japan was aflame with war. After the fall of a corrupt and ineffective emperor, the two great courts of Japan dueled to determine the future ruler of the country. Warriors of Japan covers the vital period following the destruction of the Kamakura shogunate and the fight to find a successor.

Players of Warriors of God will find much familiar here, however, unlike the enormous time period covered in Warriors of God, Warriors of Japan covers only 4 years. Subtle changes in the system to cover this unique period have been exchanged in Warriors of Japan. For example, Leaders no longer die from old age but rather can switch sides unexpectedly during a combat. Subtle changes in the movement and combat rules will add to the strategy to a greater extent than in Warriors of God. A random game start generator will keep each game fresh and interesting.

Game Details:
- Solitaire Rating: Excellent
- Complexity: Easy
- Playing Time: 4-10 hours
- Scenarios: 3

Components:
- 34” by 22” map

Comments: Wendell's relentless advocacy on BGG has helped to spur another 14 orders, putting this barely 10 percent away from its final goal. I really ought to play Warriors of God so I can see if this would appeal to me.

I don't remotely know where to look to confirm/update all this stuff, so I've added the info I could glean from MMP's latest newsletter (http://campaign.r20.constantcontact.com/render?ca=e1504024-2...) and have left the rest as it was done by Gamesmeister.

OCS: Operational Combat Series

Tunisia 2: This will get a redone map but beyond that I don't know what other potential changes may go in.

Smolensk: had its debut showing at ConsimExpo. One-mapper with lots of 1941 Panzers and even Soviet Armor Divisions (! - not corps). This campaign effectively stopped the German summer drive to Moscow which led directly to Operation Typhoon.

Italy: is apparently to be reworked on by Tony Z. over the summer if he has the chance.

Crimea: After some time without news some CSW post said that this game was still in the works as a one mapper "introductory" game to the system. Anyone has information on this?

Hungarian Rhapsody: developed by Stephane Acquaviva. This game covers the period from October 1944 through the end of the war in the area of present-day Hungary, Slovakia and western Romania.

TCS: Tactical Combat Series

Upcoming games (from the TCS page on CSW):
Ariete and GGFF (Bir-el-Gubi and GG.FF defense of the Caposaldi)

In development:

Dieulouard Bridgehead

Velikie Luki

SCS: Standard Combat Series

North Africa: 4-mapper described as similar to OCS's DAK but much faster and simpler to play
