Hello everybody. Im a proud father of three kids, of age four, three and one and half. With so younger kids I had have serious troubles to find time to keep gaming. Heck, I was having issues just to find time to watch recorded TV.

In fact I began to record my plays just to have a registry of how little I played, maybe if I recorded it, I would find that I played more than it seems, who knows?

My challenge last year would have been to get a 1x10, i.e. to play ten different games along the year, however, last month, when I was looking at the statistics I realized that I was very close to get the 10x10 challenge all by itself.

Although is a great accomplishment to have played over 150 games with my kids, the truth is that I feel that number is too small (less than one game every two days). I know for sure that the real numbers are higher than what I posted here. In some case I forget to log the plays, in others I dont log every game we play (for example during summer we played a lot of the game of goose, but I didnt log any of them, and the more toys-game or puzzle are not recorded here. And for every game I only log one play for day not matter how many times we played that game. That means that for card games, like UNO or pictureka numbers could be easily doubled or even tripled, because is pretty usual to play two or three (or more) straigth games one after another. But even with all the above said I still feel like we could have played more. I guess that is every father wish to spend quality time with their children and not matter how many you have played with them you will wish to have played twice the amount.

This is a clear winner with my family, with 20 logged plays this year. Easy to play, fast and fun. This is one of the favourite of my son and he request to play it at almost every oportunity. I recommend it to every parent and I am now thinking about getting some expansion.

This game get second place with 16 logged plays, although its real numbers are around the 40 plays or maybe more. I introduced this game to my kids this last summer and was a boom. However after the summer the game have been not requested a lot, although my older daughter still request it from time to time. We played with open hands, i.e. everyone see the cards of other players, which help me to prevent any unintended cheating from part of my kids (specially my son with 3 is still at ropes with the game) and to shorten the game (providing that "needed card" instead of another) if needed. This game help teach them the numbers, and the usual play card /draw card mechanic so I think is also a great game to play and more fun that I remembered it, although sometimes it stalls.

The story of this game is similar to UNO. As UNO its actual number of plays could be 40 or more, and we started to play it last summer (in fact after several plays of this game I decided they were mature enough to play UNO, so you can say this game was a gateway of sort). After sometime however it faded on oblivion (UNO was clearly bette) although my older daughter still request it from time to time. It lack any significant decision after picking your cards so is a quite limited game, but it got its work done

The current favorite of my older daughter. As you can see she loves card games. Although this is more akin to a game of observation. Everyone get to pick 5 cards, and then I ask them to describe them (great teaching tool) before the game start. Another one which can have easily 30-40 logged plays, because multiples plays in the same day, although only 13 have been logged

My favorite (and my son current favorite). This game is simply great. I got this game around hallowen and in less than 3 months have got 12 logged plays. It is fun, it help to improve coordination and it is fun. I couldnt imagine how some people can rate this game badly. The trick is not try to outsmart your opponent by putting the soldier in hard to hit spots. Just put all the soldiers together in the front line and enjoy hitting stuff. Not match have lasted more than 5-10 minutes. And if you want a chanllenge the catapult is there for you. Harder to hit but it feels so good when it does...

My son loves horses so this game was a no brainer for his birthday. And he loved it! For a time was the only game to play. Unfortunately it looks like even he realized after some plays that the game is not so much fun and the last couple of time that he request it he refuse to play under the rules but just to play with the miniatures (of course I didnt logged that plays, I only log real games). Even in a stroke of genius he decided to play with the penguins (see next item) trying to get to the horses. It certainly improved the game, as you advanced in both sides at the same time (you choose to whom every dice apply, the horse or the penguin), so decreasing the chances of the fearful "no move" turn , and in general shorting the game. Maybe I have a game designer around me, who knows?

Thats another game that the kids love. We usually play in a catan-like board (3-4-5-4-3) with only one penguin for player. The smaller board made the game shorter and harder (for me) because even with its more random than anything moves, the kids can block me easily in this board. This game is also special because not every logged plays is with my children (there are also a couple of logged plays with adults)

This was another game for my son´s birthday. Although he liked it, is usually his older sister who ask for it. I like the game a lot (I think more than my kids) so I also request for it on occasions (although I usually let the kids to choose themselves what they want to play) This is also a game with only 11 logged plays but more than 20 real games, because you usually built at least a couple of different circuits before putting back to the box.

This was a christmas present of last year (along with animal upon animal). The kids like it at first but then it got to oblivion (whereas animal upon animal got regular request along all the year). Still is a great educational game, and being cooperative is a good game to get my younger daughter along with us. Although there are now 11 logged plays, I have to confess that I had to request the final tenth play it in order to get it (this and the next item were the only ones where I had to actively play it to accomplish the challenge)

Another great game to play with children and try to get them creative. Sadly only my older daugther request it, my son didnt like it (he is probably still too young for it), so it didnt get so many plays as its short game time allows. Still although there are only 10 logged plays, the real number is close to 20 or more, because we usually play 2 or 3 times everytime we take it. Although I know I hve played more than 10 times, I also wished to get the 10 logged plays, so I had to request this game the last couple of times to get it, at my son expense. Well is not a challenge if you dont have to do some effort to get it, isnt it?

Although this have been the 10 games which I played at least 10 times in 2014, I also have played another games with my children which just got shy of the mark. The game of goose as I said, is one that we started in summer and then get lost in oblivion when newer games came through my son birthday. I think that we get at least 7-8 games and most probably 10, but is hard to say. The same can also apply to "where is waldo?" (is this ever a game?), or Pop the Pig which is too much a toy to put here IMHO. We also have played a lot with the components of carcassone, just like a puzzle, none of this plays was logged (because we was not really playing carcassone) but recently we have began to really playing carcassone, no farmers, no points, just the first to score three times win, but playing carcassone noneless

Update: we played two game of goose today (and I won both ), just to make sure I have played it more than ten times this year. I think we played around a dozen of games this summer with a +-2-3 games error (worst case 12-4=8 games) but with the 3 aditional plays after summer, the 10 plays mark is completely beaten for sure.

After putting this list together, I realized that there was another variant to the 10x10 challenge using older games (playing games at least 10 years old). Guess what, I was one game short to made this variant. And thinking about it I remembered tic-tac-toe

I hadnt teach my kids tic.tac.toe because it looked boring and even a bit stupid to me (although for some strange reason I had the game already in my collection, even with 3 plays looged, all from the same day. By the way how desperate must be a man to log three plays of tic.tac.toe? those were very dark gaming days for sure

In any case Im really happy to have teach this game to my older daugther. I have also played 4 games with my son, but he was more at ropes with the game and he was somewhat clueless about the goal of the game. He can play it but it is still a bit early for him. My daugther however is at the right age (4 years) and it shows.

First I have to say this is the fastest game I ever play. You can play a game in less than a minute and that is counting setup. Man, that is fast. I was counting how many games we play, for the challenge sake and I think it took less than 5 minutes to reach 10. And people say that Can't Stop is fast. You can play this game ten times in the time of a short game of can't stop. That is an order of magnitude faster!

And it is fun, because you know when playing with a kid, there are not ties, so every game is different. The first tie was in the 17th game and then at the 18 I won again. We took a halt after that and probably will play again tomorrow. I want her to be able to tie me consistently.
I also let myself lost a couple times (I can't beat my little girl 16 times straight i am not so evil) when she block me succesfully so maybe we can had a tie earlier

In any case challenge beat and the most important of all a new game learnt and a very interesting one indeed. My daughter was having trouble with diagonals at first but at the end was being better at see them. A game which teach logic, geometry and play in less than a minute, why I didnt played it earlier?
