For those out of the know, the house that they filmed most of A Christmas Story is located about 3 miles outside of downtown Cleveland, Ohio. About 9 years ago, someone saw the house up for auction and bought it with the intention of rennovating it into an attraction.

He bought it for about $150,000 and then spent over $250,000 trying to entirely restore it as much as possible to it's movie filming glory.

So, the last weekend before Christmas, we decided to go up and finally see it. We're huge fans of the movie and we just can't help but stop on the channel if it's playing. So, I figured I would share some of the pictures I took today. I will warn, these were all done my my cell phone and they didn't allow flash photography, so some of these may be a bit grainy.

The house sits between two very tight one way streets. And I can't really explain it in any other way but "Oh crap, it actually exists" when you turn the corner and see it for the first time.

I will say parking is a nightmare. You can walk a bit and try and grab an off-street spot or pay the neighbors a few bucks to park in their yards.

As we're standing in line to get in, you can't help but be drawn to the major award in the main window.

This is what you see as you first walk in the door. If you turn around 180, you see the hat rack:

What I thought was cool is they tell you when you walk in to feel free to pick things up and touch stuff. I found it incredibly hard to do, but everything in the house is a replica of some sort (or a period component to the time since many props and such were shipped back to the studio warehouses after filming). But what it does do is give great ambiance.

I really wanted to put on Flick's pilot hat, grab Randy's 12 foot scarf, and run around, but I had to stop myself.

And then you walk into the living room. Old standing wood-cabinet radio, couch with a blue bowling ball on it, and the Major Award. It's a 50" full-scale replica. If I remember from the DVD bonus materials, they're made by the same guy in Florida the made the original.

$219.00 in the gift shop. You know there are things you want and then there are things you need? I need one of these. I have a huge front window the points towards the street. It is the perfect place for a leg lamp. It just needs to happen. My wife agrees 100%.

Going upstairs, the first thing you see is the phone used after the "Oh Fudge" scene. Turn the corner and you're looking at the parent's bedroom, complete with two beds.

Around the corner and you're in the bathroom, complete with a bar of Lifebouy soap. And of course, there has to be this sitting next to it:

Back downstairs and into the kitchen where everyone was taking pictures with people hiding under the sink. We were no exception.

The kitchen wasn't as exciting because I think most of the filming there took place in Indiana, but the kitchen sink was still cool.

And then out the back of the house to the place Ralphie shot his eye out.

The museum across the street is where the real props are stored. Toys from the Higbees window display, various costume articles, behinds the scenes footage from the filming, etc.

My wife was the first to point out the manufacturer on the tag.

And then we saw her:

She was the first angry elf in the department store when Ralphie and Randy went to see Santa. Apparently, she's a Cleveland native and was there signing autographs. How cool is that?

If you like the movie, the whole complex of the house, the museum, and the gift shop is a great trip.

Speaking of the gift shop, not only do they sell the leg lamps, but they also have adult-sized pink nightmare bunny suits.
