So, I thought I'd give this 10x10 thing a go this year.

I seem to love solo fantasy games. Like, devour them. Unfortunately, I'm always going after the biggest/bestest/newest... so I thought I'd slow down a bit and see if I can get some more plays in (solo) of some of my more neglected games...

Plus, it'll boost my H-index, so there's that.

This is in the normal (not hardcore) category. Items below are subject to change.

Here's the initial list, just for comparison to the finished product...

1. Magic Realm
2. Mage Knight
3. Assault on Doomrock
4. Shadows of Malice
5. Bulwark
6. Tomb Raider CCG (modern fantasy, 'cause magic and stuff)
7. Rune Age
8. Epic Solitaire Notebook Adventures (AWESOME GAME THAT NEEDS MORE PLAYS)
9. Arcanum (AWESOME GAME THAT NEEDS MORE LOVE)
10. Darkest Night (Coming on order soon )
11. Legions of Darkness (Same order as Darkest Night )

Milestone 1/9/15: First game complete! (Rune Age)
Milestone 4/27/15: Second game complete! (Bulwark)
Milestone 7/30/15: 50 plays across 9 games! I'm like halfway there, kinda!
Milestone 7/31/15: Third game complete! (Assault on Doomrock)
Milestone 8/11/15: Fourth game complete! (Darkest Night)

Most (all?) of my plays of this will be on RealmSpeak. And I'll probably rack up far more than 10... but I love this game and there are still characters I haven't even played, and tons I haven't won with.

I'm also going to kindasorta break the rules here, and include Magic Realm Light 30 here. It's awesome and I've played twice. I think it's perhaps even more fun than base Magic Realm, as it plays faster and has most of the nuance of the full game.

Played:

Record:
1/2/15: Magician. Dead on day 4. Suits me right trying to play aggressively... or a magic user. Really, bah.
1/2/15: Pilgrim. Dead on day 11. Man, I'm out of practice
4/5/15: MRL30 game, played the Dwarf. Died on day 5 to a deadly snake bite. Ouch!
4/7/15: Knight Errant: Survived! 9VP...
Looked around for a few turns before hiring the Swordsman. Then, stumbled upon the Vault, and nearly cleared it out (2/3) in a single turn (first find was the Deft Gloves, so that helped a lot...). Got stalled by the Vault for quite a few turns killing goblins, trolls, flying dragons, and serpents. Racked up quite a bit of Fame, but it was slow, rough going.
Then I headed back to the Village, narrowly escaped the Pikeman, and spent the end of Day 14 fighting another flying dragon, but to no avail.

Just got this at the tail end of 2014, and only have a few plays in. I really want to win a game!

I'll be playing mostly full solo conquest, perhaps switching over to the Lost Legion Volkare scenarios after I've won that a few times (if I'm that lucky!). Perhaps I'll sprinkle in some other scenarios too...

I have both expansions, so I'll be using Krang and Wolfhawk during this challenge.

Again, probably will rack up more than 10 of this... seems too awesome to not.

EDIT 8/14/15: Recently picked up Shades of Tezla, too. I think I'm going to try playing a different scenario for each game, to get some crazy flavor going on here. Here's the scenario list I'd like to tackle:

First Reconaissance (to relearn the game... it's been too long!)
Solo Full Conquest
Solo Mines Liberation (in Scenario Book file)
Solo Dungeon Lords (in Scenario Book file)
Solo Druid Nights (in Scenario Book file)
Solo To Return (in Scenario Book file)
Volkare's Return - Epic
Volkare's Quest
Life and Death, Solo
The Realm of the Dead, Solo
The Hidden Valley, Solo
The Lost Relic, Solo

That's 12 scenarios for 10 plays -- I'll focus on the official scenarios first, then come back to the unofficial solo variants.

Played:

Record:
8/14/15: First Reconnaissance with Arythea, base-game components only, to get my feet wet again. 32 fame, found city on last turn of second day. I've missed this game!
8/16/15: Solo Conquest with Goldyx... kind of embarrased with this one, but I failed (as expected) with a hilarious total score of... 0 fame! One thing led to another, and by the end of the game I had a ridiculous 22 wounds, which totally negated my 44 fame. Yeah... not sure how to feel about this one.
8/30/15: Solo Lost Relic with Tovak, win with 71 fame! Not bad I really, really like this scenario. It's quick and fun and challenging all at once.

So, I totally love this one. I don't see it getting old any time soon...

Played:

Record:
1/3/15: The Overly Heroic Mage and Erratic Warrior met their doooooom at the hands of the Goblin Shaman's Party. But they had a really good run up until that point...
1/8/15: Stinky Witch + Unstable Mage. The stars aligned for my heroes in this game... until the second battle. Destroyed the Zombie Horde handily, but then got stomped on by the Goblin Shaman's Party, despite having 5 level-ups between them...
1/23/15: Tried the new 'Quick Play' variant. Turned out way *too* quick... the Wraith of Doom made short work of my Erratic Warrior and Impatient Mage. I think I prefer the long game, just because it gives me a real sense of growth and attachment to my surly band of unheroes. The short game left me heavily equipped but underprepared, as I didn't have much in the way of an understanding (from the tier 1 battle) of how to use my traits/abilities/items best. That and the few weeks that have passed since I played last combined to create devastation. But HOORAY! Tom's working on an expansion to be released soonish! I really need to beat the damn base game first!
1/25/15: Umm, this game was terrible. I wiped before I even reached the first encounter! My own fault, I stupidly chose to face a peril when I drew an event card that gave me the option, so... yeah. Game was so short, I'm not going to include it in the count.
2/9/15: The Stinky Warrior and the Frustrated Rogue barely squeaked out of their confrontation with the Beasts of Doom alive... and then luck was upon them. They rested and returned to full spirits, with new skills and equipment, before the scourge of the Goblin Shaman's Party arrived... unfortunately, they did not make it out of that one alive. Tsk tsk.
3/19/15: The Frustrated Warrior and the Overly Heroic Paladin met their doom at the hands of the Beasts of Doom. Doom.
4/30/15: The Overly Heroic Ranger and the Impatient Witch made strange bedfellows, and their lack of cooperation led to their demise at the clawing Zombie Horde.
5/15/15: The Sadistic Rogue and Impatient Paladin met their Demise at the talons of the Beasts... of Doom.
5/17/15: The Sadistic Mage and the Ridiculously Armored Rogue (what a pair!) tore through the Exploding Tomatoes handily. After enjoying this nice lunch, they set out for the Goblin Shaman's camp, and razed it easily. After that... they made their way to Doomrock. Where the Dragon with his Zombie Horde made quick work of our heroes. Alas, it is a dangerous world out there!
7/28/15: Wow, it's been over two months, and I've lost my edge! Frustrated Paladin and Stinky Ranger met their dooooom at the hands of the zombies. Forgot how tight this game was
7/31/15: The sad tale of the Frustrated Ranger and Stinky Paladin began quite auspiciously. After a quick tussle with the Exploding Tomatoes which left them battered, bruised, and tasting of ketchup, they packed up, headed north, and explored. Studying up, exploiting the local markets (those desperate merchants really wanted our plucky heroes' junk), and spelunking into various dark, moist holes led our heroes into an ambush by the Wraith of Doom and his Whispy army. While the battle seemed stacked in their favor initially, eventually the wily Wraith lulled them in with a false sense of security, and then ZZzzzaaappp! And that was the last time anyone saw our heroes... well, the last time they weren't charbroiled, that is. #GenCantSoloCon 2015

I like this one a bit less than Assault on Doomrock, but this is a more serious game. I feel like I could crack this one if I give it more time to marinate... so I will

Also, Jim Felli (the designer) has asked me to help beta-playtest the upcoming Quest Addon... so I'll be playing with that. Stay tuned for juicy tidbits about that (as much as I can reveal, that is)! Quest Addon sneak peeks will be in italics.

Played:

Record:
1/5/15: 3 avatar/2 map game on challenging with the Stewardship scenario. My first glimpse of the questing system, and it was neat, but I really messed up on time with this one. I feel like I spent too much time questing and not enough doing anything else -- I hadn't even killed a creature before Xulthul arrived to ruin my day. And the very first well he discovers? The sole remaining light well. One futile battle later and he royally dominates me. Poof. Anyways, about the quests -- there are 4 basic types, each harder than the last. The rewards grow with each difficulty rank though... so they're worth it, or so it seems. Additionally, they allow your Mystics to take a more important role in the game... that's all for now!

Hands down my favorite deckbuilder. But I need to play more! It's been burning a hole in my bookshelf for too long...

Played:
Overtime!:

Record:
1/18/15: First play since November... and it's as brutal as I remember it. Played Jedrzej The Hurler at Miksa's Redoubt, fending off The Steppe Bandits... and damn, they whittled me down by degrees. I was destitute and diseased by the time the killing blow was struck, but I put up one hell of a fight! I only hope Baron Miksa forgives me... (I think my next few plays are going to be with Sandor the Wise, going through the One Shall Stand solo challenges. Wish me luck!)
1/19/15: I lied. Played challenge #1 (The Savage Legion), with Arpad, at the Sylvan Heights. AAAAAnnnndddd I lost. Not a good start!
1/21/15: So... Sandor at the same location facing the same enemy didn't fare much better. Sandor is going to lure them to Fort Briggs, where he knows he will at least have a fighting chance!
1/22/15: And Sandor didn't do so hot here -- he was doing great until the End Phase, where he drew a hand full of wounds. Didn't even have that many in the deck! Unfortunately he couldn't get rid of any, and he perished...
1/26/15: So... I decided to slip into Easy mode and take on random assignments. This game was Wiola Wildborne at the Citadel of Xajorkith facing against the Refugees from Chthonic Darkness. And Wiola took a beating. The Refugees are an interesting Foe deck, focusing on forcing wounds into your hand as a sick result of killing them. Frenic Wounds, coming from Pestilential Whispers, are HORRIBLE. They're essentially the same as wounds in Mage Knight, where you can't get them out of your hand! At least, not without help. They're very sticky. Just one of them, and your whole strategy is ruined... as Wiola learned first hand. Ah well...
3/25/15: Decided to go for a Dwarf theme -- Took Ahuli of the Tin Clan (The Guardsdwarf) to the Forbidden Fortress for a row with the Goblin Horde on Easy... and I lost. Looks like there's a vacant guard position! Ahuli ate the whole wound deck, and only managed 4 kills! I, uh, seem to have lost my ability to build an engine. Oh my. I better get that back before I try Mage Knight again!
3/26/15: Went with Magistra Csenge at the Tower of Secret Lore, defending against the Fire Lizard Crusade. And I got scorched. Hmm.
3/29/15: Back in the groove! I took Tsula of the Gold Clan to Miksa's Redoubt to face off against the (easy mode) Fires of Fury. Tsula dined on dragon meat this night...
4/26/15: Jakab/Chthonic/Fortress (Easy). Loss -- but I was sooooo close! Two attacks away from winning the thing and I drew a hand full of wounds...
4/27/15: Magister/Holtvaros/Messianic (Easy) - ouch, things did *not* go my way. Heavily wounded a few turns in, and I called it quits -- I had no real way of generating might, I borked my setup. Ah well. Terrible loss!
---- OVERTIME PLAYS ----
9/12/15: So, I picked up the newest expansion decks, and had to try them out... so first game back. Nevtelen Lucksmith/Fort Briggs/Shadows and Knives (Normal). Loss, ate the whole wound deck. What a return trip! Have to say, I like Nevtelen's abilities. Skillful Flourish combos incredibly well with Hold 'Em, so you can be sure that you keep a few choice cards in your hand, or guaranteed that you'll banish a few wounds. Clever. Stacking the deck... which is perfect for a gambler character.
9/13/15: Harfsa/Glassforge/Blood Hunt (Normal) - Loss, the Hammer of the Underworld bled the foe deck dry just 2-3 turns before I would have won! Damn close game. Novel idea, with the Hammer. Really clever.
[b]9/15/15[b]: Hemi/Traitor's Crossing/Carnival of Chaos (Normal). Won! Hemi barely broke a sweat with this one -- his economy game is so strong. Also, only had to roll for Fortify once the whole game -- kept the carnival pretty tame. I really, really like Hemi.

COMPLETE as of 1/9/15

Includes Oath and Anvil expansion.

I've only played the Resurgence scenario, and won it few times. My goal is to win the Cataclysm scenario with all 6 factions. Well, okay, maybe not elves...

Played:

Record:
1/1/15: So it begins! Orcs/Cataclysm. Loss, but made it to stage 3 on the first try at least!
1/2/15: Daqan/Cataclysm. Loss. No great story, just poor optimization.
1/2/15: Waiqar/Cataclysm. Loss. Again, just a few turns away from winning.
1/3/15: Elves/Monument (using this variant). Loss, not even close!
1/3/15: Uthuk/Monument. Loss, still pathetic...
1/3/15: Dwarves/Monument. Loss, but so close! I had 11/13 gold on my second to last turn... I can almost feel it.
1/8/15: Dwarves/Monument. Utter terrible loss. Ugh.
1/8/15: Dwarves/Monument. SO CLOSE! Hat 2 turns in a row where I could muster 12/13 gold. I think I might beat this one yet... but I don't know if I'll beat it in the next 2 plays!
1/9/15: Dwarves/Monument. Yeah, I got stomped again. But I think I'm getting close!
1/9/15: Dwarves/Monument. Got screwed by an early draw of Thieves' Guild. Thus this game comes to a close. I'll probably go into 'overtime' on this one, given that I've lost every single time so far...

Really, just like the Tomb Raider entry, this is an excuse to playtest some rules expansions I've added. I love this game, though. Totally tells a story.

EDIT: My first homebrew ESNA-NW expansion: Magic system for ESNA-NW

I'll consider it a win if I can retire with a score above 20.

Played:

Record:
7/16/15: The (abortive) legend of Sir Garren the Grey began in earth time on 7/16, and lasted in fits and bounds to 7/30. In game, he made it to level 4, learned a few spells (first game with my magic system), had a few items, but earned himself a maimed limb and a deadly head wound. He retired keepless and penniless, just another servant of a mad king. Counting this as a part of #GenCantSoloCon 2015.

Includes all 4 expansions (Myths, Legends, Heroes, Call to Adventure), and the Witch+Prince promos.

I need to actually do a bit of construction on this one before I start. But again, a good way to playtest some new expansion rules

Played:

Record:
4/18/15 - First game in a long time. Played the Witch for 3 months... ended with an astonishingly low 4VP. Buhh...
5/5/15 - Warrior -- 11VP in a single month! Using the initial draft of my Advanced Action variant -- way too easy. Need to tone it down a notch or 12.
6/9/15 - The pitiful tale of Snorri, the Dwarf who Shouldn't Have Even Tried. In 2 months, he got killed 4 times, and only managed to take out a wolf on the final day. 3 vp. Shameful.

COMPLETE as of 8/11/15

Picked up the Necromancer Bundle + From The Abyss recently. When it comes in, I'm sure I'll be absorbed in this one...

Edit 7/19/15: I also just picked up In Tales of Old. Can't wait for it to come in!

Played:
Overtime!:

Record:
1/11/15: Like, a half play with just the base game to get things going. Not counting it above. Seems pretty, umm, sparse. I packed it up because I wasn't really having fun. I think I'll be stupid and play the next game with EVERYTHING, starting on Expert Mode, with Twilight rules for the Darkness cards. That should make my brain melt. I apparently like a challenge lately. Perhaps the rest of the games on this list have spoiled me...
1/13/15: One full solo play. And I won! But I realized after I won that I had cheated pretty badly... Decay means that items don't work period, INCLUDING THE HOLY RELICS. Ugh. Oh well. On to next game! (The quests *really* bring this game to the next level.)
7/19/15: So glad I came back to this one... oh my goodness, so much fun. Starting team was the Shaman, Scout, Valkyrie, and Wayfarer... Scholar stepped in after the Shaman bit it, and the Knight took up the place of the fallen Scout. Just barely eked out a win by cornering the Necromancer in the Castle (Wayfarer's 'decoy' skill is super handy) and pummeling it with the Knight (who was fighting with 5 dice, and had +1 from the HR, and +1 from Oath of Vengeance). It, uh, must have sucked to be mister big bad right about then.
7/21/15: Same settings as last time. Found an early-game relic (darkness 9!), and proceeded to hole up in the mountains. Things took a turn for the worse -- I didn't spend nearly enough time leveling my heroes, and quite frankly the churn was hideous. It was going to be an obvious loss due to attrition, so I called it around darkness 23 (after a near TPK...). Lesson learned -- do spend time getting those precious supply crates and chests! They're completely necessary!
7/22/15: Same settings as last time, but I had the complete opposite problem! Had significantly over-leveled characters, and even stumbled on an artifact, but lost due to lack of keys! Monastery eventually filled with blights, ending the game. As a side note, I'm doing better at keeping characters alive. So, that's good.
7/25/15: Same settings as last time. 3 day engagement, and I won due to necro kill. Starting team was Enchanter, Seer, Acolyte, and Nymph. Seer and Enchanter didn't make it, and were replaced by the Wizard and Ranger. Acolyte's powers really cinched this one.
7/26/15: Same settings as last time. Lasted just under an hour -- killed the big bad at darkness 14! He didn't stand a chance -- I had a crazy power team, picked randomly, consisting of the Wind Dancer, Exorcist, Rogue, and Crusader. A few turns of searching netted me 2 (!) artifacts, 3 keys, and tons of epiphanies and chests/caches. We all lured him to the forest, which he blindly followed us into due to the Gate on the board, then we cleared out the blights, and handed the relic to the Wind Dancer for the final hit. TEAMWORK! Not a single hero death, for the first time Might be time to step up the difficulty?
7/29/15: Same settings as last time, except I started with two blights in each location. Flippin' ouch. Starting team of Scout, Rogue, Paragon, and Mesmer, the latter two replaced by the Valkyrie and Seer respectively. Lost due to blight overflow in the Monastery. Rough game. Perhaps next game I'll go back to 1 blight per area, but add in the pall of suffering?
8/1/15: Same settings as usual, plus the addition of Mysteries. Starting team of Tamer/Alchemist/Bard/Conjurer. Started off well enough, but it eventually just got baaad. That 'shattered hope' darkness card is hell. Eventually called it a loss after some gruesome hero churn at the monastery (!!). No way I was going to be able to find another relic and kill the big bad. I really enjoy the Mystery mechanic, though. It makes things interesting #GenCantSoloCon 2015
8/4/15: Same settings as last time, plus the Lesser Pall of Suffering (no extra quests when the necro moves, only when event cards say so). Win! Team of Wizard, Valkyrie, Shaman, and Prince easily handled this. Won at darkness 25, with 1 blight in the Monastery, with a necro kill.
8/11/15: Same settings as last time, plus the full Pall of Suffering. Not that it mattered... the mysteries and blights were very... bad... this time. By the time the Necromancer had overrun the Monastery, he was only at 20 darkness... and I had only collected 8 clues! Party was the rather ill-fated Druid, Mesmer, Rogue, and Shaman, the latter two being replaced by the Valkyrie and Prince respectively.
---- OVERTIME PLAYS ----
10/1/15: Mercenary promo came in, had to give him a go... Solo game - same settings as usual. Intrepid team of Mesmer/Wind Dancer/Mercenary/Valkyrie took the Necromancer on handily -- the stars aligned, this was way too easy Took him down at darkness 12!
10/17/15: I'm a part of the 5th expansion playtest, so I played my first game of that today... whee! Alchemist/Acolyte/Scout/Tamer took down the Necromancer at Darkness 9!
10/29/15: Bleh, this one felt too much like a gamble.

Picked this up along with the Books of Magic expansion in the same order as Darkest Night. Can't wait to give this quick one a go. This should be easy to knock off the list in 2015

Played:

Record:
1/10/15: First game ever! Greenskins scenario. Lost due to some Orcs crashing through the gates. I feel like this will take several plays to really get good. Hmm.
1/13/15: Loss, same setup as above (Greenskins per layout, Warrior/Cleric/Mage). Hmm... the game is much deeper than I expected, and has a good level of challenge to it
1/15/15: Loss again! Greenskins/Cleric/Ranger/Rogue. Man, this is one tough nut to crack!
1/18/15: First win! Greenskins/Ranger/Paladin/Wizard. Only one breach, on the Gate. On to the Undead
3/3/15: So... the Undead whupped me.
8/13/15: Greenskins scenario with BoM expansion. Loss at first dusk!
