OK, I get we all love games and that sometimes the games we love get better when you add more. Who can resist the extra teams for Blood Bowl over and above the Orcs and Humans? The extra player the Horned Rats bring to Chaos In The Old World?

But sometimes, No. They make it worse, or ad nothing, or is entirely at odds with the feel and theme of the game.

I have seen people here advocate hoardes of Visigoths sweeping through the rooms in the Casstles of Mad King Ludgwig to ransack other players. Where is the theme for that?!

This is a geeklist of the most unncessary expansion - or worse - game breaking expansions.

For consistency, if possible, add the expansion as the geeklist item and the game it expands in the item itself as I did for number 1.

Feel free to add. And to get the ball rolling.....

Expands Ticket to Ride

A $1 Millon dollar bet to ride as many trains as possible in 1920s America? Cool.

What's this? A flying saucer and monster stomping across US cities? Eh?

No, Days of Wonder, no.

A boxed single token and one page of rules. Money is better spent elsewhere.

Almost any expansion to this beyond the "Ha Ha" factor on the first play-through.

Tries to give elements of dexterity to a worker placement/tile laying game.

When a game gets too popular the expansions just get pushed out. Here's an example of a trivial pursuit card expansion with such a narrow focus that it's use is very limited. If I remember correctly a large share of the questions wer based on Canada too.

They also issued a set of player tokens (wheels and color wedges) made of metal that came in a silk lined clamshell box. Expensive? Probably. Adding nothing to the game.

All of the various different expansions to El Grande - they all just made the game worse. I love the original, own all the expansion that were included in the decennial edition, and only play with the original.
