Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2015. I hope it's a great gaming year for all of you.

Two of this list's top three stars are the new COIN games from GMT about the ARW and Rome.

It wasn't that long ago that there was a flood of card driven games in much the same manner as COIN games seem to be sprouting up now. This too shall pass, and much like there are a handful of great exemplars of the CDG genre, there will be exemplars of the COIN genre, and something else will come down the pike that will be exciting, shiny, and new.

This is not a dis on either of those games from me. Far from it. But I think that just as not every game topic is well suited for a CDG, likewise not every game where one can contrive four factions is suitable for a the COIN engine.

That aside, I wish GMT much success with the franchise and solid sales.

The other rising star is, perhaps unsurprisingly, the latest battle pack for Combat Commander. That one I hope sees light of day before BottosCon 2015 so I can use it to run a tournament there.

My planned schedule for the P500 lists for the rest of the year is to be monthly between now and June, a summer edition in mid-July, a guest editor in September, and then a run up to the holiday season with October, a fall edition mid-November, and then bringing us back to a January edition.

Plans are of course subject to change.

If you have any microbadge coupons left and are looking for a place to spend them, consider using one for either of these:

See you in February.

WBC: The Board Game is a game for 3-5 players, who will share the fun of the week-long World Boardgaming Championships, contesting convention events in a quest for Laurels and competing for the ultimate prize: The title of Caesar. Players must manage their time wisely. They must remember to carve out a moment between games to sleep and eat while dodging convention pitfalls – including other competitors, unfortunate circumstances, and the occasional dreaded phone call from home. After six days of gaming -- when the games are all packed up and the competitors are headed for home – WBC players compare accumulated Laurels. Highest score is Caesar, a proven boardgaming champion worthy of praise!

Details: For 2 players (variants for 3-4 plus team play also)

No stacks of armies, no hexes, no overly-lengthy rules to learn - Hitler’s Reich takes five minutes to set up and two hours (or less!) to play. Current Preorders: 245 (+35) P500 since October 2014

Preorder Price (List Price): $55 ($79)

Designer: William Terdoslavich and Scott Muldoon

Details: For 2-5 players

Cataclysm: A Second World War is a quick-playing game about politics and war in the 1930s and 40s, designed for two to five players. The three primary ideologies of the time contend to impose their vision of order on the world. The Fascists (Germany, Italy, and Japan) seek to overthrow the status quo, which favors the Democracies (France, the United Kingdom, and the United States), while the Communists (the Soviet Union) look for opportunities to storm the global stage.

You have become a master of the super speedway, having tamed Saint Adriana. You have traded paint at the Velodrome. Verghn’s Grove is old hat. It’s time to become a full-season driver and step up to new challenges, including the very narrow short track, the sweeping turns of the quad-oval, or the fast mile. More road courses are included as well to test your mettle in more directions than left.

During the Crisis of the Third Century, the Roman Empire nearly collapsed in the face of calamitous internal and external strife, including continuous civil war and barbarian invasions from all directions. Beginning with the assassination of Emperor Alexander Severus, a period of 50 years saw nearly as many different men seize imperial power over all or part of the Empire, until the reforms of Diocletian in 284 AD ushered in an era of peace.

Details: For 1-4 players

On the afternoon of July 2nd, 1863 at the Battle of Gettysburg, Union General Daniel Sickles, commanding III Corps of the Army of the Potomac, made a decision that historians have vehemently debated to this day. He elected to advance his entire corps forward to what he deemed to be “that higher ground” around the Peach Orchard crossroads on Emmitsburg Road. By doing so, Sickles’ judgment set in motion events that would directly lead to some of the most iconic engagements of the American Civil War – the Peach Orchard, the Wheatfield, Devil’s Den, the Slaughter Pen and, of course, Little Round Top.

These two designers take you to the Golan Heights on October 6, 1973, where during the holiday of Yom Kippur, the silence on the Heights was disrupted by the thunder of tanks, guns, and aircraft when a Syrian assault was launched. The Syrian operation, code-named as Badr, was aimed to retake the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, which the Syrians lost in the 1967 Six-day war.

Current Preorders: 495 (+25) P500 since May 2014

Preorder Price (List Price): $35 ($50)

Designer: Hermann Luttmann

Details: For 1-4 players

On the morning of August 16th, 1870 at the Gravelotte crossroads outside the fortress of Metz, Napoleon III, Emperor of the French Second Empire, turned over command of the Army of the Rhine to a reluctant Marshal Francois Achille Bazaine. The Army of the Rhine, the last intact field army and already the last hope for France during the two-week old Franco-Prussian War, was gathered around the protection of the Metz fortress complex. The Prussian I and II Armies were sweeping forward, hot on the heels of the retiring French.

Comments: This game seems to be hitting a chord for folks. Seems like it's hitting the right combination of interesting system and underrepresented game subject.

Designer: Douglas Bush, Mitchell Land, Gene Billingsley

Details: For 2 players

The ink was hardly dry on the documents following the partition of British India in 1947 before war broke out between India and Pakistan. Since the partition, four major wars and numerous smaller conflicts have been waged over much of the same ground. In 1947, 1965, 1971, and 1999 India and Pakistan fought in the mountains of Kashmir and on the plains of the Punjab region to the south. Today, both sides are armed with thousands of armored vehicles, hundreds of advanced aircraft, and dozens of nuclear weapons. With tensions high and both sides heavily armed, another conflict may be just a matter of time.

Current Preorders: 508 (+22) P500 since October 2013

Preorder Price (List Price): $45 ($65)

Designer: Carl Paradis

Details: For 2 players

This game will be using a mix of all the previous No Retreat! game concepts/systems, including some from the solitaire module, to depict this long and gruelling campaign with the minimum of fuss and the fastest possible play time. Each turn will represent one or two months (depending on the weather), but not every Turn will see major action! So during Frontline lulls very little combat, if any, will take place but for frontline attrition, so these turns will pass in a speedy manner.

Current Preorders: 522 (+68) P500 since November 2014

Preorder Price (List Price): $14 ($20)

Designer: Bryan Collars & Chad Jensen

Details: For 2 players.

Combat Commander: Tournament Battle Pack – Leader of Men is the seventh themed collection of scenarios for use with the Combat Commander series of games. The growing and continued popularity of the Combat Commander Series has increasingly found its inclusion in game conventions around the globe. In many instances these conventions pit the players in a tournament setting. Invariably the question arises of how to implement and run such a tournament. In an effort to formalize these endeavors the CC: Tournament Battle Pack was created to provide a core set of tested scenarios and rules for use in the running of a Combat Commander Tournament.

Game Link: http://www.gmtgames.com/p-523-combat-commander-tournament-ba...

Comments: Assuming this is out by BottosCon this November, I'll be using this to run a tournament there.

And of course it made the cut in its second month.
