Why play the same game 10 times in a year when I can play every game in my collection at least once in a year!?!? Madness!

My wife and I are going to try and play every game I own at least once in 2015. We game with a fairly wide group of people, so it shouldn't be too hard to get the simplest to the most complex games to the table.

The real problem is going to be time. My wife is a PHD student and I'm a full-time drone. We'll have to play almost three different games a week for the entire year! The horror!

I'll try to make brief session reports for each game. I'll also provide short reviews from myself.

Our rules are simple:

1) I'm allowed to sell a game that we don't like ONLY after we've played it this year.
2) Any new games purchased this year MUST be played. The only exception is Christmas/Black Friday Deals. Any games acquired during Christmas/Black Friday can be exempt from the list.
4) We will play each game within the recommended player suggestion. I don't want to play two player Twilight Imperium or three player Game of Thrones.

Completion: 150/150

IT IS DONE!

Playgroup: Me, Christine, Mark, Paul and Al

Session: Canada won . . . again! Paul Christine and Al played well. Mark rolled a lot of shitty rolls and I messed up one of my turns. We let too much of our areas get taken. The game can be a little tough on people if they don't work together well. Al seemed to become the dominant player on his team and Christine felt like she was being bossed around. I think I was pretty good with this, as I let Mark make a lot of decisions even if I didn't think they were the best moves.

We were much too aggressive out the gate and we moved into central Canada and Western Canada quickly. They easily pushed us back with the home court advantage and later the Indians swooped into one of our spawn points. We left him unchecked after he crossed the river and we payed for that.

I think things would have gone better if Mark would have had his Treaty early, so we could plan together to end the game before they could establish a foothold into America.

Next time!

Review: A very neat and unique game that must stay in my collection. It plays relatively quickly for what it is and it has a fascinating dynamic with the two on three team play. Combat is easy and quick and I like the fled units mechanic. I'm such a huge fan of Academy Games. Every game they make seems to be a game that's fun and historic. Seriously, I could see history teachers using these games in the classroom. I think I need Freedom now!

Session: Christine won. I didn't do very well near the end. I left a lot of big States up for grabs and focused too much on securing the East and California. I bombed the debates and lost a lot of support through some well placed endorsements.

Review: Still a great game. I wish I played it more often. I consider getting Twilight Struggle sometimes but I really like the theme of this game. It has fantastic art and everything flows rather smoothly once you understand how the game operates. Maybe I should get TS. The problem is I think this game is an easier sell to people because the theme is so unique and interesting and the game is so pretty. If I get TS, will I want to get rid of this game?! I really do love it.

Christine won.

Review: Good game. It's not great but I can see it staying in my collection. I think the problem is that the primary thing I love about the game is the drafting and the drafting mechanic is done in so many other games that I have more fun with, like Seasons. I don't really care about the empire I'm building. However, it's still a good game and it's really easy to teach new players. It's a classic and like Settlers, it will stay in my collection for when I have need for a quick gateway game. Maybe I should look into getting an expansion for this game to liven it up a little. I know people are getting a little bored of it.

Review: The game has gotten a little old. It's just too simple, so there is very little excitement after you play a well-timed combo. Christine and I really love the theme, but I don't think the theme is enough to keep it in my collection. I do like the row mechanic. It's kinda neat in its limitation.

Session: Mark won. I had the most treasures but I died at the stupid river rolling a bunch of 1s. I wanted to stay on the lava for awhile longer to pick up more treasure, but the ball started picking up pace and I had to book it. Mark made the ladder inaccessible, so I guess the river was the only real option. I didn't push my luck and I still ended up at the bottom of a water-filled pit!

Review: Fun but really bloody annoying when luck hits you in the ass. You have to know what you're going to get when you start playing the game. It's like Dungeon Quest. The game is totally random but it can still be fun when you know what the deal is.

Review: Alhambra is one of those okay games I keep in my collection because Christine enjoys it and because it's super easy and enjoyable for a lot of new players. I don't love the game, but I also don't hate it. I like it and that's good enough.

Review: Playing this game for the first time all the way through really made me realize why people love it so much. I'd buy expansions if two player games got more play in my house. Every time I play this game we end up using the same introductory decks because I have to teach the game all over again! Hopefully it can see some more play in the new year. I think Christine enjoyed it and I know Mat will like it when he gets the chance to play.

Session: I won by completing one PvE quest and two PvP quests. I got some lucky rolls and I was the first to grab the hammer, which helped a lot for the PvP portion. Sadly I forgot to mention the adventure token rules so when people picked them up they thought it would be a bonus at the end of the game. Also, we didn't drop our loot when we died. Next time!

Review: A very fun game that reminds me a lot of Zombicide. You go around the map with your dude and chuck dice. I like the ongoing campaign idea and the miniatures are wonderfully detailed. It also helps that is the best paint job I've ever done. I've ordered the new Arcadia Quest. Even though this game does not need more stuff, I couldn't help myself. I love painting the miniatures! People are going to be so overwhelmed by the hero choices, it's going to be bonkers!

Playgroup: Me, Christine, Mark, and Blair

Session: Mark ended up winning. He played very greedily, never purchasing workers and always taking all the resources from the market to stand his own people up and others who would bribe him (although nobody did). Sadly, he also dicked me every chance he could get because he was always first player and he thought I was winning (I was last). I think with more plays people will begin to realize greedy play when they see it and counter it in some way.

Review: Fantastic game. This would be a solid 10 if it wasn't so convoluted. Archipelago is a game just begging for a streamlining.

I think in the future we will play with the extra benefactor card variant. I really think the variant that gives people two objective cards to chose from is great. I want to include the separatist objective, but the manual states that you shouldn't add both the benefactor AND the separatist. We'll see.

Review: I like this game. The problem with this game is that every time I play it I keep thinking about War of the Ring. War of the Ring does so much more than simple area control. Session: Mark and I won as the Cylons. I started off as the sympathizer. I tried to get one of our supplies in the red so I could be a human, but that didn't pan out. I ended up being dealt the other Cylon card anyway. Mark wasn't trusted from the very first, but he saved his power as a human to automatically make an event happen and it was just enough to kill the humans. They felt it was a little anti-climatic, but I didn't think so. Fun times were had.

Session: This game was a little boring because our haunt was a treasure hunt. I don't know how the game expects people to remember that the number 12 treasure allows you to add 3 dice to your search in the crypt. Ridiculous.

I really wanted a traitor scenario.

Oh well. I had the most knowledgeable dude so searching for me ended up being easy. I won.

Review: A lot of people will say that price doesn't alter how they view the game but that's a load. This game is the perfect example. I would be upset about the quality of components but given that it's like a 25 dollar game, I don't really care that much. So I won't knock it for it's cheapness.

This is a nice fun light game. I'm looking forward to trying this with kids some time. I think this is a great kids game (even with all the random blood and death. My kids won't be sheltered wieners)

I ended up with this great upgrade that allows you to use the Navy to attack other people's ships. Once I had that it was bad news for Christine and Mat. I can imagine it makes the game tough when you're trying to stay away from pirates AND the navy.

I ended up winning with a few choice Tidal Wave cards. You can't catch me when I can sail over islands, suckers!

Review: This is a fun and light game. I enjoyed the experience but it was really random and it never felt challenging; however, I think it will be a great game to crack out when non-gamers are over.

I love building the castle and the new way to buy tiles is interesting and unique (even though I rarely spend too much time thinking about that phase of the game). I'm considering the expansion, but I hate that the moats seem too similar to the Suburbia expansion that added those long tiles! Plus, I don't like how it limits your building!

Session: I ended up winning by building the longest road. I had a settlement down on every number except 2, so it was tough to stop me once I hit 7 points.

Review: Still a fun game. I can still see myself whipping this out five years down the road. I guess that's what being a classic is all about.

Session: I ended up winning by 10 points with a score of 76. I went for a breeding strategy to get the sixth dwarf. I also invested heavily in arms so my one dwarf could get some great rewards with each quest.

Review: Fantastic game. I would say this is Christine's favorite game. There are tons of things to do to get victory points. Very minimal interaction, but I think that's a good thing sometimes. Great game, great components, neat art, fun stuff.
