It's my first time attempting a 10x10. Here's the ten games I'll be going through (with alternate).

My entry on the 10x10 Challenge

Someone made this geeklist showing the most-commonly chosen games for the challenge. (Games have to show up on at least 30 lists). It was most recently run before I applied links to my chosen eleven games, so my choices didn't make it. However, in my selection of games, I have three that were in the top 25 most selected: 7 Wonders (#1), Pandemic (#3), and Sentinels of the Multiverse (tied for #18, although that would be tied for #17 once my listing counts). Android: Netrunner is tied for #28, but would move to tied for #25 if we add in this list. The only other item on my list is Friday, currently tied for #37 (tied for #36 with this list).

I had been playing this off and on over the last few years, continuing a squad throughout the entirety of WW2 in chronological order. I only managed two missions last year, but I enjoy the game so much, I thought this would be a good challenge for this year. We're currently in mid Autumn in my game, having recently completed the On Guard mission (protecting a forward fuel depot in France, from the Purple Heart mission pack). The Battle of the Bulge is coming up soon.

This one will be difficult to get through, as each mission takes about four hours to play. I'll be tracking via two-hour blocks (with a secret bonus goal of completing ten missions, which will finish out the war).

Progress
||||

Upcoming Missions:

16 August, 1944: Through the Eye of the Needle (#12)

25 August, 1944: Homecoming (#15)

Early September, 1944: Bait for the Trap (#7)

(On Guard would go here, but I played that out of order for some reason.)

11 September, 1944: The Dawn's Early Light (#9)

December, 1944: The Fog of War (#11)

Post-Goal Missions:

Winter, 1944-45: A Cold Morning in Belgium (#3)

20 December, 1944: The Morning After (#18)

16 January, 1945: Pleasure Boating to the West Wall (#6)

14 March, 1945: The Racer's Edge (#17)

(And then a replay of an earlier mission, for ten. Or, if I can find Silver Star, I'll see about adding those into the mix. (I only have Ambush! Move Out! and Ambush! Purple Heart as expansions.) Maybe I'll start the war in the Pacific with Battle Hymn.

My prediction: I'll get the five missions complete by the end of summer, but finishing the war out might take all year.

Didn't really keep up with keeping track of the campaign. Made it to A Cold Morning in Belguim, though.

The wife and I love this game, but it doesn't hit the table as often. I'll use the 10x10 challenge to bring it back there.

Progress

My prediction: Challenge complete before end of summer.

After end of summer, actually.

We've been wanting to start up a family RPG for a while now, but it's just a matter of time to get things going. I think we can wrangle a few sessions in.

Progress

My prediction: We'll probably get this started in March and hit game session ten during the summer.

Added in several online games; home game fizzled.

I was going back and forth between this and Dominion, but it's my friend Seth's game and seems easier to teach and have my daughter grasp than that other one.

Funny storytime: When we were packing to move cross-country, everything else had been packed away, waiting for the movers. This game stayed out until the end because we liked it so much and it went into our last box. When we arrived, we couldn't find that box for half a year!

Progress

My prediction: Challenge complete before summer's end.

A ringer. A quick solo game; ten plays should zip by.

Progress

My prediction: Challenge complete before year's end, but I'll put it off because it's such a simple game.

Last play came in November or thereabouts.

Don't let the cuteness of this game fool you, it's as cutthroat as Diplomacy in our household. The young one likes the game and I find a surprising depth in strategy in it. This one should hit the table a bit this year.

Progress

My prediction: We'll probably knock this out in blasts of three or four games per afternoon. We might take it on our upcoming trip for a thing to do in the evening.

What happened: We did play a heck out of it over the trip! Done!

I haven't played it, my wife really enjoyed it, so we got it for Christmas.

Progress

My prediction: Depending on how we all (including the kid) enjoy the game, it might take all year to finish.

What happened: This is my wife's favorite game and the kiddo really took to it. We knocked out more than ten plays on the trip where we took an abbreviated 3 player version in an old donut box.

Good for solo play or with the family. The wife likes it, the girl loves Forbidden Island, so we think she'll like this one. If not, I can solo this game.

Progress

My prediction: Challenge complete around Thanksgiving.

What happened: We completed ten plays of this in late March. The girl loves it.

I passed by GTG's booth at PAX East 2012, thinking this game looked dumb. I didn't care for the presentation of the cards (I'm a graphic designer), heard that the game was very fiddly when it comes to the maths involved, and thought it was a 1 vs many game instead of a full coop. So I always thought the game was so much wasted potential until I played it two years later at HuzzahCon (Maine). The boardgaming slot didn't have much going for it at the time, so I thought I would try it out and see how the game played.

I loved it.

Here I am, early January of the following year, eagerly awaiting my preorder of the fourth large expansion to arrive. (It's been passed over to FedEx as I type this.) Edit: It's here! Hooray! I have all the mini-expansions. I'm just missing the promo cards, but I'll eventually get those, too.

The family loves it, so my ten plays of this should be easy enough to knock out. I'm also taking the 1 player guild's monthly Sentinels challenge, so this item should be an easy go.

Progress

My prediction: Challenge complete before summer.

Played off and on throughout the summer and fall. Hit game ten in October.

Ten games? Ten cases! Whoo!

I've wanted to play this for a while now. My dear departed friend Derek loved this game, having a custom-made chest for the game (and all the supplements) and running it for a full table of amateur detectives at one of our RPG meetups. I've always kept an eye out for this game and suddenly it arrived under the Christmas tree.

With ten cases, it's a sure thing for the 10x10 challenge. A ringer, if you will.

Progress

Running Score
Us 705 | Holmes 1000 (I was shooting for 700 points total throughout the cases... we still might make it!)

We might award ourselves an additional 50 points for the bullshit in Case No. 3: The Mystified Murderess (see comments).

Subtract 70 from Holmes' score for Case No. 6: The Mummy's Curse (see comments).

My prediction: We'll get through this by mid-March at latest.

What happened: We polished off the last case in June.

My alternate.

Oh, I don't think it would be played ten times this year, but I can hope, right? It's a four-hour game (and technically a wargame, so I'll treat it as such) and I doubt anyone else in the family is as interested in it as I am -- at least not enough to play a game of it every four weeks or so -- so I'll be soloing my way through this. I think there's an AI script for the Americas somewhere out there and if there isn't, I should have enough plays to create one in the fall.

Progress
||||

My prediction: If I play this once with the family and more than three times total in 2015, I'll count that as a victory. Five times? That'll be tough.

Man, we should have picked this one. We've been playing the bejezzus out of this one -- the girl finally picked up on the strategy of making revelations about the murderer and pulled off her first win today. I'm not sure how many plays we've had, but I'm thinking we've already had four or five under our belt this year.
