One of my most Beloved games is Kingmaker take your pick as to which one but the one I play(ed) most often is Avalon Hill's 1st Edition. However I own all of the editions (long story) then I noticed something VERY wrong with it!

While perusing the Geek a picture was posted of Avalon Hill's 1st Edition but it was NOT An Avalon Hill! I was perplexed! I pulled out every copy I own and went through them. First was the 1st Edition AH and certainly enough the picture on the back of the box was NOT what was in the box! I was able to deduce that the game on the back of the box was in fact Ariel/Philmar's 1st Edition Kingmaker! WELL! That was a shocker!

That has me thinking, what other games out there have incorrect pictures on them. Either on the box, in the instructions or perhaps in a ad for the game (In a trade magazine for instance). If you know of one, post it below. If you know the story share it with me.

I will never look at my beloved AH 1st Edition the same way...
Who wants to play?

The Avalon Hill First Edition Kingmaker is my first (and only) submission to the list. First have a look at the back of the AH 1st Edition box:

Have a look at the cards and the board then have a look at what the AH 1st edition looks like in the box:

Completely different board and cards!

Here is a picture of the Ariel 1st Edition:

Interesting Right! Anyone know the story on this. I can only speculate Avalon Hill did not have a completed board? Perhaps wanted to use the larger Ariel board? Maybe they???
Who knows!
If you do, please post it below...

This list doesn't seem to have really taken off but here's an item that's more appropriate here than on the other one. The components list for Bamboleo says you get "about 25 pieces", and apparently the set is semi-random - I got 27, but I'm missing several of the pieces on the cover, including the black ball, the tall red pyramid, and the tall red cone. I seem to have more small boring blocks and wedges overall, so at least for my thrifted copy, the picture is WRONG!

I know you can't really tell from the picture, but the images of the game in progress on the box lid and sides show a board with a slightly different layout and different components to those in the game. I've never seen them in any version being sold on eBay or anywhere else. I guess they were from a playtest version used for the photoshoot.
