End of the Year Conclusions and Thoughts
TOTAL for 2015: 739 (read the break down below the Year End Thoughts)
This was a fun little experiment. I am pretty confident that had I not taken over 9 weeks off from playing games entirely, I would have hit that 1000 mark.
Number of different games played: 135
Small Game Most Played: Bang the Dice Game with 28 plays.
Large Game Most Played: Star Wars Imperial Assault with 20 plays.

Year End Thoughts
It was a unique experiment trying to reach 1000 plays in a year (inspired by a discussion of what to play and what not to play based on how many games you could potentially play in a year). I am fairly certain I could have hit that 1000 mark, though it is a pretty break neck pace to play. I can confidently say that a sane person might get in 500 or so in a year if they tried. So taking that number into account, does this impact what I am going to play in 2016? Potentially.

Personally, I have come to the conclusion that considering the rate at which new games are getting into the hands of folks, coupled with the growing number of people entering the hobby (with each game being a new experience for them), there is a constant state of perpetual teaching a game each time you sit down to one. Rarely in my experience did everyone know the rules to any given game at any given moment- thus the air of helping along a new player at every game. It is my opinion that this is why games such as monopoly and such still have such a draw, most people know the rules. You sit down, deal with the set up time (and know that the clean up time will be considerable as well), and start playing.

In the coming year, I don't think I will play as many new games coming out. Nor will I play as many games that are new to me either, choosing rather to play something I already know. And unless I'm asked, I will probably suggest games that we've played before (at least for the next several months), even with my gamer friends, because the reality is, we probably haven't learned the nuances of those older games anyhow, or have forgotten them since the last time we played. At least we'll be familiar with the rules (hopefully).

I have also enjoyed the periphery of the hobby (making inserts, upgrading components, etc.). The painting aspect will certainly continue in abundance. Which reminds me, Star Wars Imperial Assault needs to get finished... ***heads off to find paints and brushes. 2016 Hours spent in the periphery of the hobby: 1
____________________________________________________________________________
(the original header) I wanted a way to keep track of the games I played this year without cluttering up my collection list with plays for games that I don't own. I also wanted to see how close I could get to 1000 plays... a little less than 3 games a day. For each entry here, there will be a total in the first line edited each play. Thoughts will probably wind up in the comments. I will also be keeping track of how many new games I learn as well and will be making note of a game's first play somewhere in the initial description. In the comment section at the bottom I will post monthly things that I am getting out of the experience.

Grand Total Plays for 2015: 519
Hours spent in the periphery of the hobby: 220
Number of Games Played for the First Time: 61
Most Games Played in One Day: 13
(Bang the Dice Game, Istanbul, Dead of Winter, Room 25, Diamonds) and again (Legendary, Splendor, Lords of Vegas, Room 25, Keyflower, Resistance, Cosmic Encounter, Boss Monster, Betrayal at the house on the Hill, 7 Wonders)
Games Played 10 Times or More: 17
Bang the Dice Game, Blueprints, Chess, Colt Express, DC Deckbuilding, Dead of Winter, Diamonds, Doomtown, Hoplomachus, Lost Legacy, No Stress Chess, Resistance, Robinson Crusoe, Room 25, Star Wars Imperial Assault, Tides of Time, Walk the Plank

**As of the end of March, I am more than aware that I will probably end up somewhere just over 750 rather than closer to 1000

Great family card game for the holidays. Draft and collect is the name of the game here. Fun little card game to take with you wherever you go during the holidays.

This is a drafting game- take a card and pass the rest. It's nice that it seats several people, but honestly, it's more like solitaire than a game. Hardly any interaction and the scoring mechanism can be intricate. My suggestion is to use the companion app that takes care of the math.

Played this for the first time today, and frankly wasn't all that impressed. When you've got so many special powers to keep track of that the game creates a mechanism that covers those powers, thusly eliminating them... you've probably got too much going on. Great Art Work though!!!

This was an rpg of the same name without "The secret war" in the name. It was pretty good. WW2 Allied troops fighting against not only the Nazis, but also the Cthulhu mythos they are messing with. d100 system and it was fairly straight forward. I would play again if given the chance.

This has been a long standing favorite in our house when we entertain guests. The competitive push your luck nature is a familiar gameplay aspect that people are already familiar with. The small rule set makes this a fun gateway game for non-hobbyists to enjoy while offering enough randomness to still provide a challenge for us "seasoned" gamers. I don't foresee this ever leaving the collection.

Lots of light fun in this dice rolling game. I am a big spaghetti western fan and this one fits right in that wheel house. IMO, sweet spot in the player count is 5 or 6 (plays up to eight).

Eventually one of you will turn traitor in this "cooperative" game. No one knows who it will be but when it does... look out. Mechanisms are good and the production quality isn't bad with painted minis right out of the box. But a couple of pitfalls in the production as well. One recent edition of the game made the square cardboard tiles prone to warping (nothing a good squashing with a heavy book can't fix, but it is an extra step to your owning the game). Next is the player card tokens. The plastic bits meant to handle tracking various stats are nowhere near tight enough. The fix for this is downloading the free app on your phone. BIG HELP THERE. And lastly, the guidebooks that move the story along, were just ok when they were printed. Again, the app fixes this as well. This game is really quite good for those who like a little bit of horror in their game, but I wouldn't recommend it for the extra young, or the faint of heart.

This is one of those games that tries to balance cooperative and competative, what I like to call cooperapetative. It's essentially a drafting tile laying game that you will have two different partners for. With each of your partners you build a 4x4 tile city. Each of the 5 or 6 different types of buildings all score points in different ways. At the end of the game, the city which you helped to build with the least amount of points is your final score. The person with the highest score wins.

It's fun, relatively easy to understand, and doesn't get bogged down trying to be something it's not. It plays quickly and supports up to 7 players. There's even solo rules baked in. So with all things considered, I give this a Solid Game rating. Give it whirl!

Let's just get this out of the way up front. The sculpts on the minis in this game are ridiculously gorgeous! If you are into fantasy/viking plastic at all, just go ahead and try and pick up a copy.

Ok, with that out of the way... This is an area control game that utilizes a card drafting mechanism for the main thrust of the game. It's good, easy to teach, plays reasonably quickly for this type of game. Down time isn't very high, even in a 5 player game (which I played in for my first game).

This one has lots of buzz right now, and I can see why. I personally will probably be trying to pick up a copy... but there are some quirks in regards to game play, timing, and first player rules that should be mitigated. But it is very fun.

This dice stacking game is a great coffee shop game. Roll and choose dice to fill a pattern. The color and placement of the dice adds value to your building. Have the highest value building to score victory points in each of 3 rounds while trying to also get extra victory points by accomplishing special achievements. This one comes in a fantastic small box format.

Taught this to some folks who had it but didn't know how to play. It's a simple dungeon building game that not only uses cute retro style graphics, but also makes you the monster trying to kill off the heroes in town. Play is quite simple and it doesn't take too long, but you may have to encourage those with analysis paralysis to get over themselves and just play a card.

This is a silly light time filler that is intended to pass the time for a large group of people. Play a card face down showing wether or not your gun is loaded, point your gun at someone, be courageous or chicken out, maybe take a wound or two, and then collect loot. Repeat several times. The game ends just at about the right time and doesn't wear out its welcome.

In this one you are disc flicking your way through a dungeon, beating up bad guys (controlled by one of the players). The artwork is fun (for those few who ever used it, it's the art from the defunct phone app For the Win [not the board game of the same name]) and the wood used is of significant density and weight; just the right feel in my opinion.

If you purchase it, best to block out a half an hour for all the stickers you will need to apply to all the components.

This is a hidden agenda game where each player has 2 victory point conditions that everyone is trying to figure out in an attempt to gather the things they need to benefit from everyone's victory point conditions. Pretty interesting. Component quality is marginal at best, but the box has a very thin footprint on the shelf. Could be an interesting addition to a collection if they ever released a deluxe edition.
