End of the Year Conclusions and ThoughtsRecommend
TOTAL for 2015: 739 (read the break down below the Year End Thoughts)
This was a fun little experiment. I am pretty confident that had I not taken over 9 weeks off from playing games entirely, I would have hit that 1000 mark.
Number of different games played: 135
Small Game Most Played: Bang the Dice Game with 28 plays.
Large Game Most Played: Star Wars Imperial Assault with 20 plays.
Year End Thoughts
It was a unique experiment trying to reach 1000 plays in a year (inspired by a discussion of what to play and what not to play based on how many games you could potentially play in a year). I am fairly certain I could have hit that 1000 mark, though it is a pretty break neck pace to play. I can confidently say that a sane person might get in 500 or so in a year if they tried. So taking that number into account, does this impact what I am going to play in 2016? Potentially.
Personally, I have come to the conclusion that considering the rate at which new games are getting into the hands of folks, coupled with the growing number of people entering the hobby (with each game being a new experience for them), there is a constant state of perpetual teaching a game each time you sit down to one. Rarely in my experience did everyone know the rules to any given game at any given moment- thus the air of helping along a new player at every game. It is my opinion that this is why games such as monopoly and such still have such a draw, most people know the rules. You sit down, deal with the set up time (and know that the clean up time will be considerable as well), and start playing.
In the coming year, I don't think I will play as many new games coming out. Nor will I play as many games that are new to me either, choosing rather to play something I already know. And unless I'm asked, I will probably suggest games that we've played before (at least for the next several months), even with my gamer friends, because the reality is, we probably haven't learned the nuances of those older games anyhow, or have forgotten them since the last time we played. At least we'll be familiar with the rules (hopefully).
I have also enjoyed the periphery of the hobby (making inserts, upgrading components, etc.). The painting aspect will certainly continue in abundance. Which reminds me, Star Wars Imperial Assault needs to get finished... ***heads off to find paints and brushes. 2016 Hours spent in the periphery of the hobby: 1
(the original header) I wanted a way to keep track of the games I played this year without cluttering up my collection list with plays for games that I don't own. I also wanted to see how close I could get to 1000 plays... a little less than 3 games a day. For each entry here, there will be a total in the first line edited each play. Thoughts will probably wind up in the comments. I will also be keeping track of how many new games I learn as well and will be making note of a game's first play somewhere in the initial description. In the comment section at the bottom I will post monthly things that I am getting out of the experience.
