Welcome to my listing of print-and-play (PnP) games that I had, or am in the process of, building for my personal use. I became interested in tabletop gaming in early 2013 and discovered the gaming format PnP that lead me into a whole new realm of unique, artistic, and crafty games. I get a certain sense of accomplishment when I play a game that I printed - cutted - glued - laminated - clear coated - etc. because I saw it go from being a downloaded file into a fun and engaging moment of play.

My list will likely include tidbits of information on which game I built; what type of build format (travel/light, gifting, boxed, etc.); materials I used; what tools worked best (or that I had on hand); and steps that I took to make the game. I hope to include some images with each listed item to give you an idea of what I was working with, where things got tricky or messed up, and what the end result looked like.

Having recently found the PnP / DIY Crafter microbadge for crafting mb 5, mb 10, mb 50, mb 100, mb 200, and mb 500 games we shall see what my tally is as this crafting list grows.

I welcome any comments on better or different methods to do a certain thing in the build for any of these listed games. Please keep in mind the purpose for some builds (i.e., use once, a bring-it and leave-it, play-through trial; etc.) to justify why they may be complex, gorgeous, simplistic, ugly or cheaply done.

Game on!

My PnP interest and list of games I want to make has become too long for the last item on this geeklist so I am streamlining how I track what I like and what I plan to make with the Tagging tool that comes with Geekdo.

mb Kat's PnP Games Made/Crafted
mb Kat's PnP Games of Interest
mb Kat's PnP Games I Want-to-Make
mb Kat's Must Play PnP Games

Update 2017-08-28: Starting adding more PnP games to my Want-to-Make item posting only to exceed normal capacity! Shifted to tagging for organizing it all but need to go through that item to tag/unlist still - thanks for your patience!

How did I make it?
Gamesheet - I like big graphics, I cannot lie! So I did a tile layout printing of this graphic on two separate 8x11 cardstock sheets and cut one for ease of alignment together.

Rules - No rules booklet formatted so I just printed them from the WIP forum.

Tokens - Found some of the new shiny U.S. Pennies to use with this game. Fitting, eh?

Laminated card construct for durable, multiple use with or without box.

Materials and Tools
+ Cardstock, 110# Bright White
+ Duck Laminate Adhesive Peel N' Stick Shelf Liner, Clear
- Fiskars 12 Inch SureCut Deluxe Craft Paper Trimmer {Tools}
- Speedball 4-Inch Pop-In Hard Rubber Brayer (roller) {Tools}
- Fiskars 8 Inch Scissors {Tools}

How did I make it?
Cards - Did not want to have the cards too thick so I made an attempt to create the card back layout in my Libre Office program but it was off for some of the double-sided printing. Still using the cards so I laminated with the Duck clear and its thickness is still not quite there for good shuffling.

Rules - Converted the rules to ODF format and make booklet printable version with larger font and DECKTET logo. This fits just right in my new large DECKTET box of goodies.

Definitely want to try this PnP game multiple times so I am making a hybrid testing version, simple cardstock prints but with some good card sleeves. Continuing with a PnP personal goal for Mayin crafting games deemed 'Component Ready' in the 2015 Solitaire Print and Play Contest and found the concept and mechanic of this PnP very interesting.

Materials and Tools
+ Cardstock, 110# Yellow
+ Ultra Pro Card Sleeves, Blue
+ Bright White Inkjet Paper
- Fiskars 12 Inch SureCut Deluxe Craft Paper Trimmer {Tools}
- Fiskars 8 Inch Scissors {Tools}

How did I make it?
Cards - Using a firm 110# cardstock in the over abundant yellow color but placing the cards in the solid color backed sleeves by UltraPro. The sleeve color of blue worked best on the eyes. Cutting this deck with the Fiskars trimmer was painful as the blade started to dull and leave a frayed edge.

Rules - Printed on white Inkjet paper and stapled it for large booklet format. Quad-fold for a tight fit in the plastic bag.

Accessories - This deckbuilding game only needed a few small cubes to use as markers on the Alarm Counter card.

Storage - Put all the components in a spare plastic game bag for now.

Durable and compact build for this 2015 Solitaire Print and Play Contest game though finding the right container or box is still a work in progress.

Materials and Tools
+ Full Sheet (8.5 in x 11 in) White Label (DigiOrange)
+ Cardstock, 65# White
+ Bright White Inkjet Paper
+ Mayday Premium Card Sleeves (63.5mm X 88mm)
- Fiskars 12 Inch SureCut Deluxe Craft Paper Trimmer {Tools}
- Fiskars 8 Inch Scissors {Tools}
- Speedball 4-Inch Pop-In Hard Rubber Brayer (roller) {Tools}

How did I make it?
Cards - Using a thinner cardstock at 65# I decided to have the card backs on labels to add some thickness to the card form. Unfortunately the labels were not as durable as Avery so the card feel is still somewhat thin and bendable. Placed the cards in Mayday 63.5mmX88mm sleeves for playability.

Rules - Wanted to make the rules in a small format but did not want to convert to PocketMod so I trimmed all the margins and quad folded for smaller-than-game-card size.

Storage - Using a simple plastic component ziploc bag until I can find the right size of box and label it.

Made this DECKTET game into format for box storage and repeated use.

Materials and Tools
+ Cardstock, 110# Bright White
+ Ultra Pro Card Sleeves, Black
- Fiskars 12 Inch SureCut Deluxe Craft Paper Trimmer {Tools}

How did I make it?
Cards - I downloaded the latest DECKTET card face PDF from their site and printed to 110# white cardstock. Instead of trying to (or failing) to align card backs to this version I decided to make a durable set using black-backed card sleeves. I am going to work on card alignment and other methods for making cards in another less ink painful game.

Rules - Converted the rules to ODF format and made a larger font style booklet printing.

Crafting a test version of the game before I determine if I want to do a laminated card format for additional session playing. Continuing with a PnP personal goal for April in crafting games deemed 'Component Ready' in the 2015 Solitaire Print and Play Contest and found the theme and mechanic interesting in this game to give it a try.

Materials and Tools
+ Cardstock, 110# Yellow
+ Bright White Inkjet Paper
- Fiskars 12 Inch SureCut Deluxe Craft Paper Trimmer {Tools}
- Fiskars 8 Inch Scissors {Tools}

How did I make it?
Cards - Using yellow cardstock since it is what I have an abundance of for testing games. No lamination or card sleeving for this game until I after I test drive it.

Accessories - Using the plethora of plastic colored cubes I have with the appropriate colors as per the rules.

Rules - Simple white inkjet paper printing, quad-fold to fit for storage.

Storage - This is a test build so I am just placing all components in a plastic bag for now.

Making a simple test build with the 2.23.15 playtest version to see how this game flows. Like so many of Todd's games, there is always an interest mechanic tweak to it that provides a great challenge.
Continuing with a PnP personal goal for April in crafting games deemed 'Component Ready' in the 2015 Solitaire Print and Play Contest and found the theme and mechanic interesting in this game to give it a try.

Materials and Tools
+ Full Sheet (8.5 in x 11 in) White Label (DigiOrange)

+ Bright White Inkjet Paper
+ Mayday Card Sleeves, size (41mm x 63mm)
- Fiskars 12 Inch SureCut Deluxe Craft Paper Trimmer {Tools}
- Fiskars 8 Inch Scissors {Tools}

How did I make it?
Cards - Did a double-back style to these cards with one side printed on a full-sheet label and the other being simple white cardstock. The alignment was tricky because the graphics did not size up very well, which was likely due to my print settings from the PDF print window options.

Dice - Took the latest version of dice labels and cut each one out individually. Using a crafting knife tip I place them as best as I could on some old ivory-colored D6 dice. Test roll just fine.

Rules - Simple white inkjet paper printing with no issues.

Accessories - Added card sleeves to the mini-cards since they did not move or shuffle well on their own.

Storage - Placed all components (cards, dice, rules) into a small plastic bag for now as the tins I ordered were far too small for the cards.

Building in simple, travel ready format to initially try the current design build version of the second game in the Stranded No More series.

+ Cardstock, 65# Ivory
+ Bright White Inkjet Paper
- Fiskars 12 Inch SureCut Deluxe Craft Paper Trimmer {Tools}
- Fiskars 8 Inch Scissors {Tools}
- Speedball 4-Inch Pop-In Hard Rubber Brayer (roller) {Tools}

How did I make it?
Game Sheets - Used 65# cardstock in Ivory to bring out the old vellum design better. I then did a quad-fold of it and cut down a quarter of one of the seams to make it flat fold.

Cards - Using the same Ivory 65# cardstock I printed these mini-cards out and was fortunate enough to have card sleeves to fit them.

Rules - Simple white paper print and quad-fold to fit in the plastic bag with all the components.

Accessories - Add dice and play!

Storage - Using a plastic bag, about 1 quart size, to fit all components, game sheets, and cards with rules.

Build type (Boxed, travel/compact, gifting, etc.)
Crafted this game with its original design (I like the retro-look) in a simple format for small box storage.

Materials and Tools
+ Cardstock, 110# Yellow
+ Label, Full Sheet, White (DigiOrange)
+ Bright White Inkjet Paper
- Fiskars 12 Inch SureCut Deluxe Craft Paper Trimmer {Tools}
- Fiskars 8 Inch Scissors {Tools}

How did I make it?
Maze Tiles - Using cracker box cardboard and trying a different (economically cheaper) white full sheet labels, I crafted the tiles with simple stick-on-cardboard and cut method. I found these different labels thinner than the Avery Inkjet labels so darker colors are shadowed in background of graphics once applied to cardboard. Not impressed with these labels but they are likely not for covering up existing colored designed paper, etc.

Chits - Using the same type of cardboard (cracker box) I used the same concept of full-sheet labels to create the chit sheet and then cut with the Fiskars. Definitely can be a blade dulling activity.

Rules - The font and layout format could use some work to create a nice booklet style but I want to try the game out before I tweak it. Simple two-sided print on Inkjet paper.

Character Cards - I also decided to add the character cards player aid, which formats character attributes and graphic from the tiles and rulebook onto a standard US player card size.

Player or Character Sheet - Using up the Yellow 110# cardstock with this game build and test play. Should I choose to keep the game I will go to multi-page bound stack of the sheets on plain white paper.

Accessories - Adding a few D6 dice and color cubes for markers in this build. Will create standees should it get tweaked to keep.

Storage - Using a simple ziploc until I choose to tweak some of the other components then I will look at a cardstock box build.

Crafted / Completed : 2015-04-25
* UPDATE * Realized I did not make enough dungeon tiles and added four more sheets to this build for a total of 101 beginning gameboard tiles besides the broken or open door tiles

Compact, portfolio format, where the game will fit into a document protector sleeve for storage in binder with other flat, page format games.

Materials and Tools
+ Cardstock, 110# Beige
+ Cardstock, 80# Bright White
+ Bright White Inkjet Paper
- Fiskars 12 Inch SureCut Deluxe Craft Paper Trimmer {Tools}

How did I make it?
Gameboard - I like big gameboards, I cannot lie! So I did a PDF 'Tile Large Pages' print at 125% on beige 110# cardstock in order to get the gameboard to use two full pages. Cut one page at the cut line but left the other overlap intact in order to tape these two pages together from the back side with good alignment. Pages fold into its back side versus the front.

Dieboard - Printed on some extra white 80# cardstock I found in the container of PnP stuff; trimmed for gameplay and storage.

Rules - Wanted a compact format that is less thicker than normal 8.5 x 11 print size, so I used the booklet print style on my Epson Workforce printer settings with nice minimized margins.

Accessories - Will add die when needed along with any cubes, pawns etc. need at gameplay. To be stored in document protector sleeve in binder.

Another game from the component-ready stack in the 2015 Solitaire Print and Play Contest that I am building (printer friendly version) to give it a try. Using simple cardstock materials initially just to get feel for the gameplay. Converted the rules to a booklet format with card logo as cover.

Materials and Tools
+ Cardstock, 110# Beige
+ Cardstock, 110# Green
+ Cardstock, 110# Blue
+ Bright White Inkjet Paper
- Fiskars 12 Inch SureCut Deluxe Craft Paper Trimmer {Tools}
- Fiskars 8 Inch Scissors {Tools}

How did I make it?
Cards - Single-sided print with no card back designs in this low-ink version. I used green 110# cardstock to differentiate the card type (and to use up the paper). The timer cards were printed on beige 110# cardstock, single-sided with no card back design.

Tiles - Scale printed to have the tiles fit the scale, two-page, gameboard size variant. Printed single-sided low-ink version on blue 110# cardstock.

Gameboard - This was a tricky sizing to print on two sheets of paper in order to make an expanded playing area for the tiles. Set PDF to print 'Tile for Large Pages' at 85% ratio. Back side taped along overlapping crease in order to have fully foldable cardstock gameboard.

Rules - Migrated rules into Libre document and increased font size for readability. Took one of the card back designs and used it as a front page logo for this booklet style of rules.

Crafted this work-in-progress game that is part of the 2015 Solitaire Print and Play Contest. Downloaded the files from its thread, [WIP] Crazy Cat Lady - Designed for the 2015 Solitaire PnP Contest [finished - art needed], and made a simple format to try the game out.

Materials and Tools
+ Cardstock, 110# Blue
+ Bright White Inkjet Paper
- Fiskars 12 Inch SureCut Deluxe Craft Paper Trimmer {Tools}
- Fiskars 8 Inch Scissors {Tools}

How did I make it?
Cards - Printed double-sided on blue 110# cardstock but found the alignment of the front to back was off by one-eighth inch. Did take a little text edging but all cards still readable. Sleeved cards for ease of play.

Rules - Printed original format rules but also created a PocketMod version with graphics and added the 3-sided game turn die to the last segment of the PocketMod so it can be detached for use.

Storage - Small game piece plastic bag about the size of the PocketMod format for portability.

This is a compact build that was quite tricky to get any alignment with the front and back of the tiles and cards. Be careful when printing, do not shrink or fit to print area if not using A4 paper sizing.

Materials and Tools
+ Cardstock, 110# Yellow
+ Bright White Inkjet Paper
+ Mini-Storage Container, 2.75 x 0.75, Teal
- Fiskars 12 Inch SureCut Deluxe Craft Paper Trimmer {Tools}
- Fiskars 8 Inch Scissors {Tools}

How did I make it?

Tiles & Cards - This game contains the tiles, cards, character sheet, and tokens on the same page with card/tile backs on the second page. It is likely an A5 sheet sizing and will not align for any double-sided printing… so I went through a couple of printing versions before I finally decided on two separate sheets glued together for proper alignment. I was initially going to laminate the cards/tiles but the thickness of two 110# cardstock glued together made the cards very firm as it is.

Rules - The game designer made the rules in a nice format that can trim off excess edging for easy trifold. I was able to fold the version provided in BGG files to fit in the compact storage box.

Storage - I used a 2.75 in by 0.75 inch container I have a stack of and affixed the label for the game on the cover. These plastic containers come transparent in a variety of colors, of which I used the teal for this game.

Made this game for long term play with the game cards mounted and double-sided of the same card face. Added accessories to the build to make the game self-contained and compact in format.

Materials and Tools
+ Avery White Full-Sheet Labels for Inkjet Printers with TrueBlock(TM) Technology
- Fiskars 12 Inch SureCut Deluxe Craft Paper Trimmer {Tools}
- Speedball 4-Inch Pop-In Hard Rubber Brayer (roller) {Tools}
- Fiskars 8 Inch Scissors {Tools}

How did I make it?

Game Cards - Used the full-sheet labels to print the game cards faces and mounted on wrong side of cardboard so I decided to have the card faces place on both sides in order to cover up the source design on the cardboard (Puff’s tissue box).

Score Cards - Since I did a double print of the game cards I had two sets of score cards and logo labels to make two of those as well, affixing them to thin cardboard.

Rules - Printed double-sided and folder in half, then in thirds to fit in packaging with game cards and accessories.

Accessories - I wanted this game to be self-contained so instead of placing coins in the bag with the cards I substituted coins for colored tokens (green for Audacity points, yellow for the Grail, red for the boss monster) and added pawns with dice for the Raiders and turn/movement rolling versus penny shake-and-slap.

Storage - Used a simple game piece plastic bag to fit rules, game cards, and accessories inside. Perfect fit.

A simple portfolio game with a PocketMod format gamesheet that I made for its simplistic format and ease to carry.

Materials and Tools
+ Bright White Inkjet Paper
- Fiskars 8 Inch Scissors {Tools}

How did I make it?
Rules - Printed double-sided for document protector sheets.

Gamesheet - Came in PocketMod format so it was only a matter of folding and cutting in the right places.

Making this game for travel and multiple use gameplay so I am using strong print paper but with thin cardboard. All components will be portable in ziploc bag.

Materials and Tools
+ Avery White Full-Sheet Labels for Inkjet Printers with TrueBlock(TM) Technology
- Fiskars 12 Inch SureCut Deluxe Craft Paper Trimmer {Tools}
- Speedball 4-Inch Pop-In Hard Rubber Brayer (roller) {Tools}
- Fiskars 5 Inch Non-stick Titanium Softgrip Detail Scissors {Tools}

How did I make it?

Gameboard / Placards - I loved the fan creations for game placards and decided to print four designs for my game set (Catan, Kingdom Builder {added border}, Middle Earth and Game of Thrones). I used my Libre Office (Impress, their version of PowerPoint) to align the four placard graphics and set their ratio to 3.5 by 5.0 inches. Then I took the game logo x4 on the next slide in this file to set four copies of it at the same ratio. Printed both slides (placards and logos) on full-sheet labels then I affixed them to a thin but firm cardboard piece I had laying around. Trimmed them just right.

Rules - The PnP fileset has the rules in a simple quad-fold format that I decided to duplicate and invert so I could have it print double-sided. This allowed me to create to rules cards with pages 1&2 on one side and 3&4 on the other side.

Coins - Okay, I tried to craft the coins using the coin labels provided in the PnP pdf the designers were so gracious as to provide us and… they did not scale like I would hope they could. I snipped an image of the coins at a large sizing but screwed up the ratio somewhere so (to me) they were a little off. Now comes the fun part - I have no punches to punch out the labels (moans in angst!) so my very poor attempt to cut the corners after affixing them to simple cardstock box backing… was an epic fail! Hence, I am using U.S. coins as the rules indicate until I can figure this coin making stuff out (or until I get the punches that I need).

Build type (Long term use, travel/compact, gifting, quick play, etc.)
This build is for home-usage/gifting, using sturdy materials that will not peel or fade after more than 10 uses. Crafted dual gameboard format, one using the standard map from the initial periodical format and the second using the Best of hex-style modular tiles for diverse gameboard layout with each play session.

Materials and Tools
+ Poster Boards, 22in. x 28in., White
+ Avery White Full-Sheet Labels for Inkjet Printers with TrueBlock(TM) Technology
+ Duck Laminate Adhesive Peel N' Stick Shelf Liner, Clear
+ Lineco Self Adhesive Linen Hinging Tape 1.25 in. x 35 ft. white linen tape
+ Solo snack cups w/lids
+ Card sleeves, US avg
+ Box, standard flip cover, 9in x 12in
- Fiskars 12 Inch SureCut Deluxe Craft Paper Trimmer {Tools}
- Speedball 4-Inch Pop-In Hard Rubber Brayer (roller) {Tools}
- Fiskars 5 Inch Non-stick Titanium Softgrip Detail Scissors {Tools}

How did I make it?
Found some extra poster board, thin, in the house and after looking as some of the variant builds between the Dragon #51 and Best of Dragon Magazine I decided to do both. I enjoy the old school periodical format games but also what others create, update or upgrade from that base game. I noticed one BGGeek had cut the Best of Dragon version map into individual hex pieces for gameboard variation - a great idea I used in this build.

Gameboard - it took some snipping of screenshots to break the #51 map into two separate pages for a folding board that would maximize the 8x11 Avery full page label space since the Adobe tile-large-pages print still left a lot of blank space in the margins. This is where I could have done things better. I SHOULD have affixed both labels to a single sheet of poster board, then cut and reconnect with linen hinging to make the maps page align correctly. I did not do this and had to trim some edging here and there to get it to match without impacting locations and route lines. Once I got the board to match up and then linen tape affixed on the back, laminate time. I used the Duck laminate as it is the best for this simple job and is not very glossy for glare. Applied two pieces, one to cover left side of board and another to cover the right.

Hex Tiles - The image I was able to find on BGG for the Best Of Dragon hex map was not the best and had some distortion for tiles (impacted edge lines and size ratios). So I worked with what I found and snipped the overall map into four pages to print to adhesive full page labels. I was all about maximizing that single sheet of poster board for every inch that I could - so I cut the hex pieces to all fit in each inch of that poster board. I then cut each tile out as an independent modular board piece so I could have that variation of setup.

Chit / Game Pieces - the sizing of the original pdf for the game chits was tiny and unreadable (at least for me!) so I snipped larger images of that single chit pages into four and printed at a possible 155% sizing. Using the same full page adhesive labels I applied the chits to that poster board then cut, cut, cut.

Box and game piece storage - I like some Latin American food take out and they are so nice as to provide salsa in these little solo cups withs lids. I don't like salsa, hence we have chit storage containers! At a office supplies chain I was able to find the fliptop boxes (9x12) pack of four at a reasonable price. With the gameboard map being a dual piece/folding board I need the box to fit it without having to make it a quad-fold micro board.

This game, what I tag as ‘format-1page’ in my collection, was a quick and easy build solely for personal, single-use game session.

Materials and Tools
+ Cardstock, 110# Bright White

How did I make it?
I took the original file JPG from the BGG Files section and split it in two down the middle so that the map and character sheet were on the first page and the game actions listing was on the second page. Converted those to a single PDF and printed double-sided on 653 cardstock. I found cardstock to be easier for multiple use (pencil and eraser) game sheets.
