(dang, that guy has a cool avatar!)

This topic is a recent interest. I got the game on the Wargamers Pay it Forward Geeklist because it's an area-impulse game (yes!) on a topic I never heard of (interesting).

I learned some history from the magazine article and a BBC documentary. It is on the table and ready to play.

This is on my Vassal design table. I put it up last month and then dropped everything to give the 3 week overhaul to the Hands in the Sea module. I did scan in the map last month and piece it together. I'm not completely satisfied with the result (I'm a perfectionist) and will try it again, but this one will be out this month.

My Brits got beat up badly at Levis. But then I got a beach head at Beauport. It's been about 3 years since we played this, so I can't remember how strong he is between my forces and Abraham.

My Union forces moved across Bull Run and surrounded Henry House Hill and my artillery across the creek has steadily bombarded his forces. Without a way to retreat, he has been taking heavy casualties.

This game is really enhanced on Vassal. Face to face, it's probably too long for what it's worth, but the bite-sized plays by e-mail work really well.

We continue playing through all of the scenarios, which is a tougher goal, since Juan Palacios created 6 scenarios for the 7 Years' War, which I added to the module and posted on VassalEngine.org.

This time, we are playing the Kolin scenario. Right now, my Prussians are moving into position, but the fighting hasn't begun yet.

Ok...so I repent. I am ashamed of myself. blushblushblush

I keep listing games that I'd really like to play, not ones that are actually already on my table. Mostly because I want to post-bomb this geeklist and then stop worrying too much about it. Well enough! I am tired of the countless Navajo Wars posts I keep making only to be continually frustrated. Last month, the thing that kept it off the table was getting left behind by my airline and a massive leak/flood in my home. So, from now on, only games that are actually either in my VASSAL log (actively trading logs), or physically on my gaming table.

This is one I'm not certain about. I've got an early led with the Russians on Edwin's Austro-Hungarians, but I haven't sealed the game up yet. We are just into turn 5 and my Russians have kept the AH VP gain to just 1 VP last turn, probably going as high as 3 or 4 before I can push them off all their VP spots. However, he hasn't thrown in the towel yet and while it's been over a week, the logs for this one sometimes get big.

I have a VASSAL PBEM game with Paolo on this one. My Union has been getting stuffed and blocked at every turn, but hopefully I'll be able to make some momentum on this April 1863 turn and move from success to success. I just played "From Sea to Shining Sea", which should help me may hay while the sun shines.

After a FTF game of this last month (or, half a game), we've migrated it to the VASSAL table and are playing the 3rd scenario (Battle of Eckmuhl?) I'm liking the system, but because of the hidden information and also the constant need to check the rules while learning the system, I'm much more comfortable with this one being on the VASSAL table. It'll move at the pace I need, rather than feel like I need to make another play just to keep things going.

This is sitting on my physical table. Even though I left my home early this morning, I am going to be back on Friday and this will get set up again. I got into Eylau last month and it was really good, but I ran out of time before the trip and needed to pick it up.

When I get home I'm going to reset and try again. It seems to be well balanced, even without a lot of the special rules.

This is the only one I'm fudging on. I'm in the airport right now, and I brought this with me. I also have the other games in the The Peiper Dream set, printed, mounted, and counters clipped last month. I'm going to set it up as soon as I get to my room in Singapore. Takes up such a small footprint that I'm sure there will be a table that can hold it's 5x7 map.

I highly recommend printing out these games on standard size paper before proceeding with them. Having the rules on a separate piece of paper is extremely useful, and mounting the counters just makes them feel less like a pile of junk.

I brought Caccia a Tito Drvar 1944 with me as well to see if I can learn it, but I'm not sure what is up with the table-space situation and it will definitely have to wait until after this is done (and maybe some of it's sister games).

My first introduction to the Cry Havoc system. Played the first scenario where some lords visiting a keep/castle decide to backstab their hosts and wrest control of the castle. I like the map with its moat, drawbridge, arrow slits, battlements, etc. I like the mechanics like carrying scaling ladders and climbing over the walls. The man-to-man combat is a nice change from most tactical games and it adds flavor when you see the corpses lying on the ground. I'm OK with this being a light wargame, but I'm not crazy about the combat table. It does not make sense that when 2 evenly matched knights fight each other in the open that the results are:
10% defender retreats
20% attacker retreats
20% attacker wounded
50% nothing happens
While the percentages increase a bit with better odds, it still seems lopsided. These sort of percentages reduce the incentive to attack and caused battles to really drag on since an attacking knight cannot actually wound the defender unless the odds are 3:1.
I downloaded the rules and tables for the updated version called Guiscard which uses a different CRT based on the differences between attack and defense strengths. I'll see if this improves things when I play the second scenario.

I'm setting up and will be playing Mohrungen - 25 January 1807 today as my opponent and I continue in our quest to play through all the Commands & Colors: Napoleonics scenarios. I'll try to remember to take pictures.

has been creating an exceptional video series about his playthrough of a Roads to Leningrad scenario. This has inspired me to pop open my copy of Roads to Moscow and dive in head-first. This month I'll be punching, clipping (rounding) and soloing a scenario from the game in order to get a feel for the rules. I'm hoping to find a face-to-face opponent in the next few months.

I've been trying to get this wonderful game back to the table for the last few months but life has managed to get in the way at every turn. My opponent has been patiently waiting for our next match. I'm determined to get this to the table this month. And to get my revenge for the last few humiliating defeats my opponent has served to me.

So an old friend decided that he wanted to get back into boardgaming, particularly into wargaming. He's had past experience with Empires in Arms and World in Flames. I pointed him to BGG and it's opened up a whole new world of possibilities for him. Deciding that the best way to dive into the hobby is to make a purchase, he P500'd the recent Paths of Glory reprint.

Yesterday evening I brought Barb to Berlin over to his place to introduce him to Racier's CDG system. We played a short learning game and managed to complete the first third of the game. He's now primed and ready to go for when his copy of Paths lands on his doorstep. However, our session has now rekindled my love for the game. If we don't get a chance for another session together, I'll most likely get this to the table for a solo playthough.

Still playing this. A very interesting scenario with fire n movement rules. Just want to try some other strategy.

Reading the rules for this game. Going to have a trial game next week. Some say its better than Athens and Sparta. Let's see it for myself.

The Guards Counter Attack. Can never get enough of a good old assault-counter-assault game. Brings back memories. Going to teach my son about this grandfather of all squad level wargames.
