This is a personal geeklist purely to give some quick thumbnail views of a few games that I own, especially for local friends -- it's a pruned down peek at my collection to show some suggested games that we can play together anytime you wish.

For newcomers to the hobby, it might also be a tool to learn about a lot of fun games in one easy list. For other readers, it's simply a sampling of some games that I personally enjoy and think worth looking into. In any case, I sincerely hope that anyone who browses the list will discover at least one good game that they didn't know about before.

I've left my favorite traditional classics such as Scrabble, chess, xiangqi, and bridge out of the list (though my enthusiasm for playing and teaching them is always high), as well as games that are geared more toward top tier serious gamers. I've tried to include a variety of games that are simply fun to play, with an emphasis toward games that look interesting and fun to play.

For each game in the list, I will provide a very brief description and a photo to give some idea of the game in play. If you're not familiar with BoardGameGeek, clicking on a game title will take you to a page chock full of information about that game, and clicking on an image will take you to a page that may have more information and/or a larger size of the image.

I'm going to make the list public so that anyone may enjoy browsing through it, but I'm limiting comments to keep it streamlined and so that my primary audience can browse without distraction (I do welcome geekmail if someone has a comment or a question, or if there is any way at all that I may be of assistance).

Because this is a list only of games that I actually have here in the house, and because I'm limiting it to 100 main games (plus closely related games mentioned in the descriptions), the list could change occasionally as games come and go, or as my opinions change.

[list tweaked on 03 August 2017]

A pleasant game for 2-4 players; secretly plan your route as a tourist in the USA before anyone else can complete their trip, drawing a tile on each turn and possibly using it to replace a tile in your rack, without rearranging any others.

A fascinating economic strategy game, great for 4 players, who place tiles on the board to build and merge hotel chains while trying to have a controlling interest in the stock holdings and make the greatest profit by the end of the game.

One of the best wargames of all time, 50 years old and still going strong because it's more about maneuver than combat, as a large force tries to hold off an opposing force that is smaller but has more concentrated power. It's also a great game because the rules are nowhere near as complex as those in most more modern wargames.

A really nice strategic game in which players use turns to either take money cards, buy building tiles in the marketplace, or renovate their courtyard, with the best courtyards scoring the most points; recommended for 2-4 players, best with 3 players.

I also have Alhambra: The Dice Game, which can be played separately or as an expansion set for the standard game.

I also have Carcassonne: The Castle, Carcassonne: South Seas, Carcassonne: Gold Rush, Carcassonne: The Discovery, and Carcassonne: Over Hill and Dale to enjoy different flavors of the same game concept.
