Most people's Most Played Game of the Year will most likely be something quick and light, just because those type of games lend themselves to being played often. Perhaps equally interesting to 'Most Played' however is your 'Most Played gamer's game' of the year.

This list is about your most played game of the year given these criteria:
1. It takes an hour or more to play it.
2. It's heavier than 2.0 given the BGG scale.
3. Only count your face to face plays (online plays don't count).

Also, give your impressions of the game. Are you surprised it was your most played? Is it worthy of the title? What rank does it have in your overall 'Top Plays of 2006'?

12 Plays.
Ranked 10th overall in my 'Top Games Played 2006'

I'd have to guess that 9 or 10 of these plays were 2-player with my son (10yo). Of course, being the game of games, it's worthy of having been played as often as it was. I was surprised this came in first, but if I think of what game I would have guessed would have been #1, I don't know what I would have picked. Perhaps SoC.

I'm pleased that my most played game (Bang! 34 plays) and Puerto Rico both got a lot of plays with my kids. Too many gamers neglect playing with their kids, I think. It's nice to see that I'm bringing my kids into my hobby.

185 plays. That's over 1 game every 2 days on average. Would be more impressive, but most are from Tuesday night, when I meet at the club and usually play at least 4 games. I would like to have more in the coming year, because I'd like to take time to play on the internet evenings after the kids are asleep as well.

My most played non-children's eurogame of the year would be Ra, at 42 plays.

3. Board Game: Age of Steam [Average Rating:7.76 Overall Rank:120]
Board Game: Age of Steam
52 plays of Age of Steam, an average of once a week.

Frequently this was with one of the various expansion maps, often with a map either Ted Alspach or I'm working on. Quite honestly I'd be willing to up that average rate to twice a week.

Ancients, Tichu, Ra and Puerto Rico all tied on 7 plays. Of those, the one that I enjoy playing most is Ancients, but I have more opportunities to play the others. There were about 20 games with more plays that didn't qualify, e.g. Zertz, because I generally prefer shorter games.

5 plays, my only heavy nickel. I had Puerto Rico at 4 plays, and even had it lined up to play in New Year's Eve, but the other players decided they wanted to play Settlers instead

Something like 13 plays. This is probably my favorite card game of all time.

Technically clocks in at an hour, but depending on the group some of the games come in under that.

Good components.

Fun mechanics.

Economics.

everyone I've introduced it to has like it.

Played it 9 times last year.

Played 8 times, this is the first game on my list to fulfill the criteria. I do like this game, especially at a play length of one hour. It can tend to get a little redundant when going past that point though. Overall, this is tied for 9th on my total list.

Rumis would have been taken the spot with 20 plays (actually the most plays for any game of mine this year), but even though the play time for that is listed at 60 minutes, we easily get two and sometimes three games in during lunch, so I didn't count it.

Only one other "gamer's game" even got more then 2 plays this year, and that was Elfenland with 3 plays. Since most of my gaming is either at work during lunch, with my 3 year old daughter or with new gamers, I guess this makes sense.

10. Board Game: Antiquity [Average Rating:7.89 Overall Rank:227]
Board Game: Antiquity
My top REAL gamer's game of 2006 was Antiquity, with 10 plays. My boyfriend and I enjoy it 2-player, and we also introduced it to some former wargamer-buddies who took to it like ducks to water. I suspect it'll see plenty of play in 2007 as well.

Attika had more plays with 27, but all but one or two of those were 2-player games that clocked in at less than 30 minutes, so I disqualified it.
