Gelato The Hunters Top tonnage tournament II.

Welcome fellow U-Boat Kapitans.

The Rules.

1. U-Boat/Rank
Each player will start with a Type VIIB U-boat, with the first patrol starting in September 1939. Starting rank will be "Kapitänleutnant" with a trained crew. Play will continue until June of 1943 or until sunk, scuttled, captured or removed from the tournament by other events.

2. Sunk, Scuttled, Captured
The Tournament will run till June ´43 (= 4 weeks playing time) or till there are no more Boats available to send on patrols. Players whose Crew was sunk, scuttled, or captured during the first week of play are allowed to re-start with a new Boat. After that, if you´re sunk, scuttled, or captured your campaign ends.

3. Winner and Prizes
The Tournament is a Top Tonnage tournament - the player with the highest number of sunk tonnage will be declared the winner, even if sunk, scuttled, or captured. Player that dropped out of the tournament due to other reasons will no longer be part of the ranking and are not eligable to win.
3.1 If you fail a scuttle attempt and thereby surrenders a working Enigma machine, you can not win the tournament.

4. Ruleset. Optional Rules
The game is to be played with standard rules, including their most recent updates as linked on the GCL 142.
The Tournament is played with the following rules from the Optional Rules section:
- Increased Historical Targeting (The optional target roster is not used.)

5. Time Frame (Tournament)
The tournament is played in a weekly period where 1 week represents 2 columns of the [P1] table.

Week 1 Sep'39 - Jun'40
Week 2 Jul'40 - Jun'41
Week 3 Jul'41 - Jun'42
Week 4 Jul'42 - Jun'43

6. Deadline for submitting your mission report
As stated by Stig Morten and in the format shown in Stig Morten's comment below.
Keep your geeklist entry updated to ease Stig Morten's job.

Players not reporting in time will suffer the following penalties:
1: Their tonnage for the week will be zero.
2: Crew advancements, promotions and decorations received this week will not be applied.
3: All possibla patrols for this week will be treated as failed patrols with all consequences.
4: The Captain will be downgraded one rank (lowest rank possible OlzS)

7. Assignment Process
Book-keeping and rolls for patrol assignments will be done by Stig Morten. For each U-Boat there will be 6 assignments rolled, since this is the maximum a player can play wihtin 12 months. The patrols must be taken in the order rolled / listed and can be played as long as their starting date is wihtin the time span of the current period played. Based on Refit time you might not be able to play all patrols you´ve been assigned. Just ignore patrols that cannot be taken.

An additional d6 will be rolled for each Kommandant to determine if he´s allowed to choose his own patrol depending on his rank. Remember when you´re allowed to choose your own patrol it must be a legal patrol from the list of the current time period.

8. Special cases:
Rank increases wihtin a week will be taken into account for the rolls of the following week.

U-Boat upgrades work as described in the rules you may start your next patrol with your new U-Boat right after you received it. However the effect on the patrol assignments will be taken into account in the assignment rolls for the following week.

Captains permanently assigned to the Mediterranean or the Arctic may return to regular assignment procedure when they receive a new boat and crew due to a refit time of 5 or more months. If this happens contact the tournament director and he´ll provide you with new assignments for the rest of the week.

9. Cheating.
There is no cheating in the Gelato Tournament.

10. Questions
For general questions, please put them in the geeklist comments.
For questions relating to a specific player, you may place them under their geeklist entry.

Good luck everyone. You will need it.

Dan 17,700 3 ships
Neil 48,400 3 ships
Roger 29,900 3 ships
Scott No report
Stig 12.800 1 ship

Patrick takes the total tonnage award by a small 700 tons margin over Neil. And gets the 15 GG.
4 of you sunk 3 ships so I'll give out 5 to each.

Week 3 patrol assignment.

Neil Mediterranean all the way baby. If you upgrade contact me.
Roger Choice-Arctic(same as before, if you return these are your nexxt onesChoice-Atlantic(W)-Choice-Choice
PatrickMediterranean all the way baby. If you upgrade contact me.
Scott North America-North America-Choice-Atlantic-Atlantic-Atlantic
DanChoice-Atlantic-Atlantic-Arctic(if you return, these are the next ones Atlantic-Arctic(no need to roll as this is the last patrol of the game)

A mere 8,000 or so tons separate Neil and Roger with Patrick some 30,000tons back.
Will Scott make a return a fight Dan for the fourth place?

37 GG to the one that takes home the tonnage win.
15 GG to the one that has the most sunk ships.

Week 4 fun
Open to those that have been sunk to give them something to do and those still floating as a bonus competition. Not part of the main tonnage tourney.

Starting May '43. Sail one patrol with the VIIC Flak boat in the Atlantic. Kapitan rank is KPtLt
5 GG for highest tonnage.
5 GG for any airplane shot down.

Have fun!

Week 2 Standings

Tonnage
Scott 164.900 tons
Roger 148,800 Tons
Neil 144.300 tons
Chris 108.400 tons
Dan 108.200 tons
Stig 107.600 tons
Patrick 97.300 tons
Jacob 0 tons

Ships
Scott 26 ships
Roger 22 ships
Patrick 17 ships
Stig 17 ships
Dan 16 ships
Chris 15 ships
Neil 14 ships
Jacob 0 ships

Team convoy standings.

Team RP: Roger, Patrick: 7 ships, 56.200 tons
Team SC: Scott, Chris: 1 ship, 8.400 tons.
Team ND: Neil, Dan: 3 ships, 31,000 tons
Team SJ: Stig , Jacob: 1 ship, 10.400 tons

Still awaiting Scott and his statistics for the Convoy war, but unless he sank 5 ships and bagged 25,300 tons, Roger and Patrick will take the honours.

Week 3 Patrol assignment.

Neil: Mediterranean all the way, unless you upgrade your boat. Contact me if you do and I'll roll up patrols for you.
Stig: Atlantic-Mediterranean-And I join Neil in the Med.
Scott: Atlantic-Atlantic-Atlantic-North America-North America-North America (Remember to roll on the North American target table)
Roger: Atlantic-Atlantic-Arctic-(roll before going out on this patrol and if you stay in the Arctic, do that. If you return, here are your last three patrols) North America-Atlantic-North America
Dan: Atlantic-Atlantic-Atlantic(W)-Atlantic-North America-North America
Patrick: Mediterranean and there you will stay. Contact me if you upgrade your boat or abort with damage before/during Gibraltar)
Chris: Atlantic-Atlantic-Atlantic-Atlantic-British Isles-North America

3 of us are in the Med, one might go to the Arctic, so my patrol assignments for the next week will be easy.

All targets rolled are valid for 1942, so no alternative patrols.

Those that go to the Med, can read up on the rules here

Quote:
So we have our first permanent assignment to the Mediterranean with Neil. (Please read rules 7.3.3 and 7.3.4) If the patrol that takes you into the Med. can't be started in June or earlier, new rolls will be made next week and the Med assignment might not happen. Being assigned to a new boat as per rule 11.4.1, 11.4.2 or 11.4.3 will cancel the permanent Med assignment. Consult me for new patrols in that case.)

Week 3 special fun rules.
Highest tonnage on a single patrol will earn 15 GG. Most ships sunk on a single patrol will earn 15 GG.
It can be different patrols. Failing to include this info in your update /AAR will make it difficult for you to win.

Have fun!

Week 1 standings.

Tonnage
Roger 82.100 Tons
Scott 67.900 tons
Neil 66.200 tons
Chris 53.700 tons
Patrick 52.500 tons
Stig 42.500 tons
Dan 32.200 tons
Jacob 0 tons

Ships
Scott 12 ships
Roger 11 ships
Patrick 10 ships
Neil 10 ships
Chris 9 ships
Stig 7 ships
Dan 5 ships
Jacob 0 ships

So Roger takes the tonnage awward, but Scott ships more ships so he steals that award. Congrats to you two.

Week 2 Special rules

Week 2 will include a special Team Convoy award.
FOr your first patrol your first two Atlantic boxes will be an automatic Convoy roll. Do not roll for encounter in these boxes, as you automatically get a convoy.
You can follow each convoy twice after the initial contact(this will be an automatic success). If you choose to follow damaged ships you lose contact with the convoy for that box.
Example: You find the convoy, sink one ship and damage one. You can automatically follow the convoy and roll for new targets. Fire at those, and then automatically follow again and roll for new targets. After this third attempt at the convoy you can not follow the convoy again, but can follow damaged ships.
If you (after the first or second attempt at the convoy, choose to follow a damaged ship, you can not reengage with the convoy in that box.

These special rules are only in force for the first two boxes of the first Atlantic patrol.

I divide us into teams and the team with the highest total tonnage for these two patrol boxes share 20 GG. The team with the highest amount of sunken ships share 20GG.

I assigned each a Space Empires counter (from Unique-1 to Unique 6, Victory and Research based on tonnage standings from week 1. Yeah, highly scientific, I know) and drew the teams that way

Team RP: Roger, Patrick
Team SC: Scott, Chris
Team ND: Neil, Dan
Team SJ: Stig , Jacob

You are of course allowed to discuss tactics about going for tonnage or ships or both.

Please keep a separate report about tonnage and ships sunk during these 2 boxes.

Patrol assignments Week 2

Roger: Atlantic(Team Convoy award)-British Isles-British Isles-British Isles-Atlantic-British Isles
Scott: Atlantic(Team Convoy award)- British Isles(M)(This patrol must be started in Dec'40 at the latest. If you can't start it in 40, omit it.)-British Isles-Atlantic-Choice
Neil: Atlantic(Team Convoy award)- Spanish Coast-British isles(M)(This patrol must be started in Dec'40 at the latest. If you can't start it in 40, omit it.)-Atlantic-Mediterranean***- Mediterranean
Chris: Atlantic(Team Convoy award)-Choice-British Isles(M)(This patrol must be started in Dec'40 at the latest. If you can't start it in 40, omit it.)-British Isles-Atlantic-Atlantic
Patrick: Atlantic(Team Convoy award)- British Isles-British Isles-Atlantic-Choice-Choice
Stig: Atlantic(Team Convoy award)- Atlantic-Atlantic-Atlantic-Atlantic
Dan: Atlantic(Team Convoy award)- Atlantic-Atlantic-Choice-Atlantic(W)-Atlantic
Jacob: Atlantic(Team Convoy award)- Atlantic-British Isles(M)(This patrol must be started in Dec'40 at the latest. If you can't start it in 40, omit it.)-Atlantic-Atlantic-Atlantic

So we have our first permanent assignment to the Mediterranean with Neil. (Please read rles 7.3.3 and 7.3.4) If the patrol that takes you into the Med. can't be started in June or earlier, new rolls will be made next week and the Med assignment might not happen. Being assigned to a new boat as per rule 11.4.1, 11.4.2 or 11.4.3 will cancel the permanent Med assignment. Consult me for new patrols in that case.)

For those with British Isle(M) assignments for your second or third patrol, this assignment is omitted if that patrol can't be started in 1940. If Refit periods takes the start of this minelaying mission into 1941, you omit it and rather start the next assignment per the rolls. This to keep it historical.

Good luck and ask questions if you have them.

Week 1 patrol assignements!

Ok, this tournament I'll do something to shake it up a bit.

Week 1 will be the same for everyone and the leader in tonnage after Week 1, will win 15 geekgold.
The one that sinks the most ships will also recieve 15 geekgold.

Any ties are broken by the other factor(tonnage/ships)

Remember you can restart if you sink during week 1.

Reports due next SUnday. 1st of March I think that should be.

Patrols: British Isles-Choice-British Isles-British Isles-British Isles(M)-British Isles(Don't do this one)

So we conduct our patrols mostly around the British Isles, but we have one Choice in there. Remember your choice have to be legal for both the month you sail and for the U-boat type you have.

Set sail and good hunting!

EDIT: It looks like I have rolled one too many patrols for the first week.
As Roger is the only one that has completed his run and he didn't sail after June, I say we diregard the last rolled patrol.

So for week 1 patrols will be.
Patrols: British Isles-Choice-British Isles-British Isles-British Isles(M)

I'll allow Roger to redo his run if he likes to because I rolled wrong.
