This is the item on which I have written my thousandth comment.

A game that seems the love-child of "Avalon" and "Mysterium". Different enough from the other similar short deduction/traitor games out there to warrant its continued existence, even in a collection with many social deduction games.

Space Alert is my current favourite game. Perfect 10. My comment on it is from May 2009:

Wonderful and outstanding co-operative game which plays real time, and so needs really an effort from all of the players in order to be won. The rules also suggests that each player is to be put in charge of a particular job to be done (captain, communications officer, security officer, etc.)

My favourite game before the coming of "Space Alert". My comment on it is way back from November 2006:

[Traumfabrik - German Edition] Wonderful auction gameplay mechanics (as to be expected from Reiner Knizia), and, for once, seamlessly integrated with the theme, which is the one thing that pushes this gem over the top (movie making cannot be beaten!)

This is the game that rounds up my trifecta of perfect 10s. Also, I always vote for it every time it comes up in the Geek Madness Tournament! ;-)
The comment dates back to November 2007:

I am definitely impressed by this one. While not very elegant in its design, the way the game turns out to be is very enjoyable and entertaining, and certainly the resource market is one of the best mechanics I've ever seen implemented in a game. After repeated plays, it also shows a solid staying power. An exceptional design.

This is the highest rated game which I do not own (the rating is 9, btw). My rating from June 2009:

The oldest game that I still own is the classic AH Civilization. My comment is equally ancient, from April 2007:

A classic. One of the heavier and most immersing game experiences that I ever had. However, when the "Advanced Civilization" expansion came out, the base game was no longer played in my gaming group.

...while the most recent one is this, and its comment is from February 2015:

[Kickstarter edition] A very good diplomatic/combat game, which has however some drawbacks:
1) random events that are REALLY random, and which exacerbate the luck which is already present in the form of the cards and the dice;
2) the rules are quite messy and not at all intuitive.

The most interesting rating disparities from my commented games and the BGG average:

Overrated: King of Tokyo (for me 4 vs. BGG 7.46)
Comment from August 2013:

What's the deal with this game's high ratings?!? It's a random mindless filler that is not even fun, and moreover it's WAY too long for what it is.

Meh. Maybe I am a bit burned out on the collect resources, build and get VPs games, or maybe it is just that I found this game totally unoriginal.

Overrated: Battlestar Galactica (for me 5 vs. BGG 7.84)
Comment from May 2009:

Well, I don't like the show, so the faithfulness of the theme to its source does not interest me. And judging purely by co-operative game design, I think there are many other games that are better than this one.

Underrated: Ostrakon (for me 8 vs. BGG 5.85)
Comment from February 2006:

One of the best party games I've played, but you must really fill the additional cards to have enough difference between games.

Actually, the best way to play is to just invent the questions disregarding the categories totally. In this way, the game flows much smoother and it is faster.

Underrated: Fightball (for me 8 vs. BGG 5.94)
Comments from December 2011 (after the database split*):

Good short game, but it requires reflexes and a sharp mind, so it is not for all tastes. I'd love to play a season, but I never had a chance.
"The Dark" is a good deck for beginners. "Aztecs" is a little more complex.
"Cavaliers" are my personal favorite team. "Team Sport" is tricky but powerful if you know the deck well.
"Texas Wildcats" is an all-offense team, while "The Cruisers" is the complete opposite.

* I cannot fathom why this game was split in its three decks. Brawl is still a single game even with the various decks available. Maybe because they (Fightball decks) can be played stand-alone?

I have also recently begun to dabble in the BGG Math Trades; the first game I acquired in a math trade was this one! The comment from March 2013:

This could easily be my favourite game ever if only it was redone with an easier and less fiddly resource management mechanics, shorter playing time and probably rethemed with events and inventions from real history (not sci-fi). As it stands, it is still easily the best time travel game ever made.

...and in the same Math Trade I gave away this... the comment from November 2012 explains why:

I am a big X-Com fan so this was a "must buy" for me. The theme is extremely well captured, but unfortunately the game itself is disappointing. It is fiddly and does not quite work as I expected for a mixed cooperative-competitive game (à la "Republic of Rome"); either the players co-operate too much or do not co-operate at all. Quality of the components is sub-par. Very luck dependent, not much room for mitigation.

What next?

I hope to obtain soon some of the games which are high on my wishlist, of which T.I.M.E Stories is the first and foremost.

Other soon (or not-too-soon) to be released games in which I am interested:

- Pandemic Legacy: Season 1, because it could bring the "legacy" mechanics to a game which is actually good;
- Grand Prix, because I don't like NASCAR racing, but Thunder Alley is supposed to be good and this brings similar mechanics to F1;
- Conan, because I definitely threw too much money at its kickstarter (as I suppose many of you did, too).

Thanks for reading, and see you at the 2000th comment!
