I did a Top 10 vs Top 10 Played geeklist back in 2009 and thought it would be interesting to revisit that idea. Last time I looked at total number of plays. This time out I will focus on 2014 plays, though will note lifetime plays in () as well.

2014 Notes:
I had a total of 167 plays across ~40 sessions; just over 4 plays a night. Of these, 73 plays (or ~43%) came from the 10 games listed below. Were these my favorite games? Well from my...

Top 5 - 13 plays (8%)
Top 10 - 28 plays (17%)
Top 20 - 59 plays (35%)
Top 50 - 4 plays (2%)
Other - 10 plays (6%)

How about you? Are your favorites getting played? Feel free to add your own list and findings.

*New to us 2014. We did a March Madness style "favorite games" tournament over the summer and after the dust settled, Robinson Crusoe was the winner. Outside of Container, Robinson Crusoe has the widest appeal in our group and was the most commonly requested game last year. I quite like it though I may need a bit of a break in 2015.

*New to us 2014. Initially there was some grumbling about the random events and constant shifting of climates and biomes; however, by the third session everyone decided to throw caution to the wind and just enjoy the ride. I love this game. The science is so thick you can taste the asteroids as they come crashing down on your carefully specialized species.

*While certainly not a personal favorite, Werewolf is quite popular amongst the ladies and kiddos. It gets pulled out a few nights a year and we typically play 2-3 sessions in about an hour.

*New to us 2014. In 60 minutes you participate in hunting/gathering, animal domestication and migration, climate shifts, raids, colonization, advances in tech, births, elders, religion, proselytizing, and witch-burning. Wow. While I like the game, many in my group feel the luck of the dice is too much.

*A rip-roaring "ten hour simulation game that has been compressed into a tiny box until all that remains is its hot glowing core" (MScrivner, BGG user). Pax held strong from 2013-2014, with only a 1 session drop-off. It's my favorite game from the last two years and I'd love to see it hit the table even more in 2015.

*We've played all of the GMT COIN Series games and without a doubt Andean Abyss is the most popular. It has the best socio-economic-politico blend and the factions I think are the most interesting of the series.

*This is the evergreen game in our group. No matter who comes and goes everybody likes Container. Without fail it continues to get requests and the marginal players will come out for this one every time. It is perhaps the purest and most elegant micro-economic game I've ever played. The rules overhead is incredibly light for a game with so much depth.

*Co2 is interesting in that my group admires the design more than they enjoy playing it. The interaction is similar to that of Container and Brass: Lancashire but with more stuff going on which tends to temper the eagerness of people to come back to it. As it is, I enjoy the theme and the parasitic relationship cycles that develop between players throughout its course.

*The Commands & Colors series is the most beloved and popular game family in our group. Between our members we own each iteration and while I prefer Commands & Colors: Ancients, Memoir 44 gets the most plays as people enjoy the theme and little plastic tanks.

*New to us 2014. The most ambitious game I've ever played, Origins covers the evolution of language, environmental determinism, global catastrophes, climate change, animal domestication, immunization, slavery, resource extraction, exploration, war, social structure, male-female dynamics and more. It's quite fascinating though my group is somewhat split over the amount of luck in the dice and card draws for such a long game.
