Yellow peppers were extremely scarce. Several players used them to fulfill contracts in the early game, leaving almost none planted, and those that were planted were not in a position to produce more. Orange, however, was plentiful, with 7 planted on the board by game end. No ghost peppers were ever harvested, though Matt managed to obtain one through a contract (giving him the win when he planted it).

We agreed it was very nice that the peppers of different levels were different heights, but that the recipe cards were unnecessarily hard to read, with half the cards being taken up by the word "Recipes" instead of useful information like larger, more colorblind-friendly pepper icons.

The turn order auction is crucial. It was mentioned that this aspect is so important, it makes the game feel like Power Grid Lite.

Qwixx gemixxt Variant A

Jonathan 89, Sebastian 71, Matt 71, Tony 50, Bruce 47

Variant A has blocks of colors interspersed on each row, which is challenging to wrap your head around at first. I managed to lock the top row, kicking the red die out of the game, which made some of the other rows a little harder to finish. This difference would be felt more in a game with a lower player count, since each player would be rolling the dice more often in that case rather than using the whites on other players' turns.

Matt took a miss on his very first roll.

Very close game until the endgame set scoring. I overheard that they needed some tiny felt to roll the tiny dice on.

I received 19 points from tiles, with no 6+ developments, and 25 points from commerce. Matt had not seen anyone win by using a Consume strategy before. I kind of fell into it as a side effect of my starting development, which gave me cash for having goods on planets when I produced.

Second Mouse by Joe Hopkins

Matt 16, Jonathan 9 (win), Sebastian 8

Going into the final hand, the scores were 9-9-8. Sebastian needed either to take 4 or more points to win, or for one of us to take no more than 2 points so that the game would continue. Matt tried to take a bunch of cheese and then stick me with at least 3 so that he would clinch the victory. Unfortunately, he left me as the second player in the final trick, and enough leeway to manipulate the cheese totals with my card swap. This let me tie Sebastian on cheese, giving Matt a ton of points and me the win.

I rushed the game end, getting to 4 scoring buildings while the others had 2 each (albeit better ones). The market was very volatile throughout the game. Sebastian got two anchors in play late in the game, which gave him a lot of flexibility in actions with good payouts. Doing this early in a game could be pretty dominant.

Dan 36, Matt 24

Matt did not think he did well, but said he learned a lot. Dan disagreed and said it was a high-scoring game for both players. Dan clinched the 7x7 square bonus points, and ended the game with nothing to do but advance time for free buttons.

People Matt wanted to murder this evening:
- Sebastian, for defacing game boxes and storing games in the wrong boxes
- Charles Randolph Grean, for composing "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins"
- Me, for having the temerity to introduce Qwixx Gemixxt to the table
