We've all played them. Some of them are great games - others not so much - but all of them have one thing in common: they just go too long for what they are

Settlers is one of those games that starts off interesting, lulls, and then has a final spike where two or so people usually duke it out. For me there's about 20 minutes of interesting game play and the rest is crappy rolls, not being able to do anything on my turn, and asking people if they've got wood for sheep. Not a bad game, but I'm always ready to put it away for awhile after I play it

I really like this game, but with the default scoring it is loooong. For a game with so few actual decisions I do feel it overstays its welcome a bit. We played a game for an hour or two the other night with 4 and, with the rules explanation and occasional look-up, took 1-2 hours to get 5 or so points out of 20. To be fair, there are ways to shorten the game, and I highly recommend using them unless you have an entire afternoon or a group that really knows the game

I love Talisman. It's the game that opened my eyes to board games when I was a kid, but it's very long. Playing a full game takes hours, and I usually lose interest by the time we reach the center cloister (especially if you die there and have to start from scratch - now that sucks)

I might catch some flack for this, but I absolutely think this game belongs here. The initial parts of the game where you are exploring the house are necessary but are so very boring. The only redeeming quality is that you are building out the house which is just kind of fun to do anyways. Then the game kicks in. I think if you could shorten that initial bit then the game would feel much better for me.

Not as bad as Catan for me as the mid game feels more interesting. It's really just last few minutes that feel a bit dull as most of the board is taken and you may not want to do anything else. I need to find an expansion that adds a tad more kick to the mix

This is a game I once owned, always wanted to love, but was always pushed back from fully embracing because of how long it always seemed to go. For the first couple rounds, the constant negotiation is great fun. But after 1.5 or 2 hours, it starts to feel like work. The game always went about 30-45 minutes longer than my group enjoyed it. Traded.

Let me start by saying that this is an amazing game and it's one of my favourites, especially with new gamers.

The problems is that with more than 4 people the game just drags like crazy, even if you play with the 7 buildings and substitute the warlord for the diplomat.

This one is the opposite of Betrayal at House on the Hill. All the fun is contained in the run up to the inflection point. Once the traitor is revealed I find about 90% of the joy/fun is sucked out of this one.

Maybe we should mash-up the two games. Betrayal at Battlestar in Orbit or some such.

I hate to put this game on the list but by the 3rd round of building a ship it feels like I'm ready to be done. I love the game in spite of this, and I'm happy to play it, but it could use something to distinguish the rounds, Some kind of engine that builds over time.

GO CRAWL IN A CAVE! When not playing games.

Each of the 3 times I've played this it's taken 2.5-3 hours.

You're limited by the actions, and even the exploring is just a random flip of a card (though it tells a good story). Plus there's so much searching for cards to put in the deck, shuffle, etc.

If this was an hour game, I'd like it. After 1.5 hours I'm (yawn) ready for something else.

At least in our gaming group Power Grid always starts with huge interest, which goes down with each hour. Maybe it's just us, but our plays take 3-5 hours (depending on number of players). A pity, because game itself is very good.

I saw this game described very accurately as "a game that takes too long to be over too fast".

A lot of interesting concepts, but if you want to, say, go attack someone's castle, it will take you an hour of cardplay to recruit one unit and move one space toward the target. And then the points run out and the game ends.

If the goals change almost every turn, this can take a long time.

This applies to any version of the game; I used Zombie Fluxx as the example because of the popularity of zombies in various media nowadays.
