Everyone has their favorites. Sometimes, those games are so beloved that they get completely worn out over time. Whether you have worn the faces off your BattleLore dice or thrashed the box of Agricola to tatters, you may have been compelled to replace the gems in your collection due to "Aggressively Repetitive Play Syndrome", or ARPS for short.

Which games in your collection have been casualties of ARPS?

My circle of friends contains an unusually high number of Dungeon Keeper fanatics. That means Dungeon Lords hits the table a lot. A few imps have disappeared, the action cards are showing more black than white around the edges, and a couple of components have been accidentally bent.

All this made it exceptionally easy for me to justify picking up a copy of the Anniversary Edition on the cheap recently. Now I just have to figure out which of my Bullfrog aficionado friends to grace with my outgoing copy.

Our first edition of Betrayal was bequeathed to our board game club by a local game store. Between our own fondness for this unusual gem, and the fanatical following it attracted in our club, the box completely failed. We couldn't even tape and rubber-band it together anymore. Many of the common cardboard pieces have become frayed on the edges from frequent handling.

We keep thinking about getting a new copy, but this one holds so many memories we haven't dared to say goodbye yet.

This one is especially dear to me. When I was first married, my wife and I did our laundry in the coin-op down the block. We hauled a couple of favorite games with us each time. This and Alhambra were our regulars. We got FAST at playing Thurn and Taxis. We can polish off a round in about 10 minutes when we get down to it. I've shuffled those cards a million times. They've taken on quite a bowed shape. Maybe I should try to get them back into shape by shuffling them upside-down?

BYU is a predominantly LDS school. "Family Home Evening" is an important institution in LDS culture. As a freshman, I became the head of a FHE group in my dorm, which helped preserve the comfortable social atmosphere that many of my peers were missing. That made me the one responsible for arranging activities every Monday for a group of about 10 individuals. That ended up being a regular attendance of 5-6.

Bang became the go-to regular activity. We played it at nearly every opportunity. Over time, the cards started to get nicked, folded, and tattered. It was only a fatal fruit punch accident that finally murdered our poor deck. Special mention goes to our Norwegian student who constantly declared "I Bang You!" at the top of her lungs, a source of endless amusement.

I've worn out the paper money nearly to the point of unusability.

I got the Artscow money cards to replace it. They're already worn a bit too, but still usable.

The boxes are duct taped because they're so worn out.

Still my.favorite game. I didn't start logging aggressively until 2014 but I try to play every chance. I get. Averaging out the 30 or so plays from last year the set itself has easily seen over 100 plays.

Settlers was my first and only boardgame for couple years. So we played it unknown number of times, but really a lot. And resource cards show a lot of wear. Very hard to play with Catan: Cities & Knights expansion, which adds new and shiny special resource cards. Thief has to look away each time.

Our campus gaming group put this through the ringer. Months worth of meetings it was in constant play. The box lid is trashed. If you go to a game group, look for the banged up boxes; you might have found a winner.

Thank infection deck is looking pretty beat up these days. If only that meant we were actually beating the game that much, unfortunately it's the game that beats us more often than not.
