For 8 years now, we've put together a local convention on the North East side of Indianapolis where friends gather and game. A huge shout out to our sponsors this year, especially those Platinum Level sponsors who gave so much for our attendees including, Floodgate Games, The Game Preserve North, Friendly City Games, Coolstuff Inc, and Moyer Technologies.

I probably think this every year, but this was the best year. The quality of the sponsorship, the fact that I got to play some of my absolute favorite games, and played games with 46 different people! The only downer was I forgot my notepad with all my scores and opponents, so this is going to be from memory. Can't wait until next year.

This was the first game of IndyCon for me. I played this four times over the convention as it was the Play to Win from Indie Boards and Cards. This game is really fun! It is super light, super chaotic, and that turned some of the folks off, but it was great hearing the "KABOOOM on your face" as the game got played a ton by everyone! I wouldn't mind owning this one, but I think my kids are a few years out from it though.

Every year Game Preserve gives a gift certificate for the winner of our Crokinole tourney. This year we had 24 participants and I did the best I've ever done. Round 1 I played Gary, who won last year, so I thought I had no chance. I played the best I've ever played and got the win! I then kept going playing Tom, Thomas and eventually made it to the semi-finals losing to the eventual champion Jerry. Way to go Jerry! Crokinole is such a fun and easy tournament for conventions like this and the game itself of course is really great!

Played this first thing on Saturday morning with Annie, Jeremy, and Krista. We play games together all the time, but I can't remember ever playing a co-op game with them. We lost and we lost quickly. I think by turn 8. Just couldn't get that sin out of there! I liked the theme of this game, but I'm not so sure it changed my ideas on co-ops. It got played several times over the weekend though and I believe went home with a Sean & Abigail, which is appropriate since Sean is a pastor.

I got a chance to give this a go after the Ticket to Ride tournament. I think I played this with Kyle, Steve, and Pete. Steve told me later on that we played a couple rules wrong which might be why Kyle got such a ridiculously scary pack carnivore that devoured anything around. Pete did a good job of defending with horns and shells, but I didn't. I liked this game quite a bit though and would like to give it another go. It was the most played "Play-to-Win" game of the convention.

Days of Wonder sponsored the Ticket to Ride tourney again this year. It is the most popular event we hold. We immediately had 25 people signed up, but ended up playing with 24 with one drop out. I'm not a big Ticket to Ride fan, but this year I thought I'd play. It was like being put in with sharks. Houston was a much needed connection, I didn't get it, then BAM I was out of my NY to LA ticket. I ended up losing badly. Congrats to Kelly who got the win!

Brian and Brendan played this with me early on Friday. Got to say I wasn't extremely, though I'd play it again. There is just so much end game scoring it was very difficult to pick out how to play. I scored all 30 some points that I got in the game at the end.

The Montz and us planned on playing this on Friday morning right at 9, but there was only one copy at that time and it was tied up in another game. So we waited a bit and got the next copy that arrived. Then all of a sudden there were 4 copies being played at once. I think this was probably played at least 7 or 8 times on Friday at least.

Charlie, a first time attender joined us. I was able to sneak out a win in a low scoring game I remember. I was the Mermaids and had a very large network at the end thanks to level 3 ships. I think everyone really enjoyed the game and I really really need to buy a copy.

I love the Tichu tourney every year. This was the 6th year we've done it. Last year we did random teams, but didn't have quite the turn out, so this year it was back to pre-chosen partners which meant Logan and I were back! We played Annie and Krista in round one in an extremely close game, but luckily for us, we were able to pull it off. We finally made it to the finals against Tami & Dave. Had a wonderful time playing them, eating pizza, and just enjoying probably my favorite annual part of IndyCon!

Before IndyCon we scheduled a transcontinental game of this and it was awesome! Both Jerry and I got stuck in the East and didn't set up well for the long game, but then Jerry quickly made a west coast train and came roaring back. Really though the game was between Andrew and David the whole way, Andrew had some huge 9 point deliveries from New Orleans to Denver, but David's consistent deliveries got him the win! Thanks for playing every one!

While I was wrapping up RRT, Brendan asked if I could teach this. There were only three of them, so I joined them, and then Logan joined us to finish out the 5. I played the Horned Rats (probably my favorite faction), while Toby played Khorne, Logan played Nurgle, Brendan was Tzeentch (Spelling?), and Adam played Slaanash.

This was a crazy game. We had really rough Old World cards come out. One made every place where a Skaven token was cost 1 extra to summon a creature and the other eliminated one corruption each time corruption was placed. This was the first time I ever played that I thought the Old World had a chance of beating the players. In the 2nd to last round, Brendan thought he had won and so did everyone else. However he didn't, because he finished with 49 points that round, letting it go one more. Khorne was just too tough the last round on the last card of the Old World he got the dial victory as did I, but with 3 more points than me! Absolutely amazing game. I love it! Good job Toby!

I had scheduled to play this on Friday, but none of us actually thought to make sure that someone was bringing it. However, Adam West brought it for me on Saturday and we played that night. It was Brian, Adam, and I from last year and this year we added Steve. I'm really liking this game after just 2 plays. This time was interesting as both Steve and I were forced to play our truce cards on turn 3, but it turn out okay for us as we had eliminated the Brits in the south and was able to win 5-2 since Brian and Adam didn't have Warships to bring in new attacks in the weakly protected Georgia and Carolinas.

To finish up the night on Saturday night Barry, Steve, Brian, and Sean joined me for this excellent game. My rules explanation was very poor, but we eventually made it through. Sean made some big moves early, got a lead, but then Brian really started pooring it on as a Restorationist who happened to be my faction as well. Steve saw the Restorationists doing well and flipped sides, leaving Sean and Barry as Loyalists. Well, Brian thinking he'd won decided to end the game, but hadn't noticed that the War track had moved up for the Loyalists to 2 points and making me last place and so securing Sean the victory. I wish I could play this one more often!

Jeremy and I both got up really early on Sunday and he taught me this one. He has owned it since GenCon, but because we usually play Netrunner together it just hasn't come out. I really enjoyed it. I played the Egyptians while he went with the Japanese and I think I won 65-55. At first I wasn't so sure about it and I still think it is stupid that Stone goes bad, but as the game went on I was enjoying seeing more and more combos come into effect.

Mike and I have played several war games over the years at IndyCon on Sunday morning including Warriors of God and War of the Ring. This year we added this one. I played the Free People while he played the Shadow. This was a feast or famine game it seemed. His first few attacks in the Valley produced nothing on my smaller forces, but when he wanted to heal up it is like he could do no wrong. Eventually he did take the Ruins of Dale, survived some Gandalf magic, and also took another 2 points. It took him too long though, thanks to Bilbo and a Dwarf Regular soaking damage up. Then on the last turn, I took a chance, attacked with an army lead by Gandalf and Thrandruil to take back the Ruins. On his last battle Mike attempted to take camp from Bard & Dain, but failed leaving him with 4 points only. Then he drew a three on a 2 of 7 chance and Beorn came in play and I got the victory for the first time ever I think.

Jeremy just killed Christy, Ben, and I. We knew it was going to be really bad when after Turn 2 he had 3 sugar, 2 Silver, a ship, a disovery (with using only 1 guy!), and the missionary building. It was just a slaughter after that. I think he beat us by 30 points! However, with playing this, I ended up playing 3 of my top 5 games over the weekend which is just awesome!

The rest of the day was filled up with short filler style games before packing up and leaving. Dave Duffield brought this neat game out and Jeremy and I played a round of it. I didn't really like the game, but it looks really nice. Jeremy's ghosts killed me one last time with only 3 pegs remaining.

Still taught Jeremy how to play, thanks to Mayday donating this and Jeremy winning it so we could play it. Solid push your luck game that is worth looking at I think. The box is much smaller than I imagined for some reason.

I saw a couple on Sunday afternoon setting this up and reading the rules. I didn't know them so I introduced myself and offered to teach. Turns out Clay and Melissa live really close to me. We played this quickly, I was able to get the win by sectioning off a large section for myself early, which just came with experience I think.

Since Clay and Melissa seemed to enjoy Hey! That's My Fish, I asked if I could teach them my design. They seemed to really have a good time and I actually gave them a copy (the copy that I had meant to give out to the person who had played the most people over the weekend, but I forgot to do so!). I believe Clay ended up winning this one with some smart maneuvering the final couple of turns keeping me away from about 5 points. I asked him to rate the game on BGG, even if he rated it a 1 and he did today! I'm trying to get it up to 30 ratings so it'll officially be ranked, regardless of what that rank actually ends up being.

My wife told me we're buying this game. I think she played it 3 times over the convention. This time it was with our friend and former Hoosier now Buckeye Kevin. It is a fun game and there is some screwege and plenty of luck. Krista got the win $410k to $390k with Kevin somewhere in the 200s. I remember this simply because it was the last game of the con. Thanks to everyone for coming out and thanks again to all our sponsors!
