Last year was the first gaming convention I ever went to. I chose ConnCon and I had an amazing time. It's funny how over the course of a year you don't realize how much fun you actually had. In February my wife asked me if we were going back and I said, no we have too much going on. She then said, "We are going."

So I booked the hotel and waited patiently (ok maybe a little impatiently) for pre registration to open. I probably checked the ConnCon website 10 times a day. I wanted to make sure I would get my slots early and not be on a waiting list or have to make the always difficult decision of choosing a different game to play. I printed out the slot schedule and had my game plan ready to go. My strategy was similar to last year. Only schedule games I have never played before and I was highly interested in. Last year I played games for the first time like Eclipse, Caverna, Bruxelles 1893, and more. The only game I was planning to schedule I was going to receive before the Con was Alchemists. Wasn't sure if I was going to get it played before hand though.

I also raved about ConnCon that I got three of my game group members to make the trip. All three first time game convention people.

I had an amazing almost no sleep fun filled weekend. I saw people I met last year and I met new people this year. I had great game judges and I don't think I could have had a better time unless the Con was longer.

Here is a list of games I played at the Con and some of the people that really helped make my trip so much more amazing.

I brought Bora Bora from home with me. It's been on my list of games to get played. Thanks to one of the guys in my regular game group PJ. I went through the rules quick and taught it before our first scheduled slot on Friday. We also played with Jon and Norm. We met Norm at the con. I would run into Norm all weekend.

I had played Alchemists three total times before the Con. Glad I did because the first time I was pretty lost. The game was taught by Todd Dyer and he did an excellent job. Todd is a real good dude. I met him briefly last year and this year we played a few games together and he taught me a few. I'm looking forward to running into him at FalCon. We have similar tastes in games so that always helps.

I enjoy a good Feld game but from everything I read about this game and from the videos I had seen I was more than convinced this wasn't for me.
Todd told me I would like it and he was more than willing to teach me the game. I played this game with Norm and PJ. Norm told me this game plays better than the run through and I completely agree.

I loved this game instantly. As soon as we were done playing I walked into the vendor area and bought it.

Networks was my next scheduled game slot. I played this last year with designer Gil Hova. I hit it off pretty good with Gil last year and we played a few games together. I think a lot of people hit it off with Gil. He's a real good dude and a ton of fun to play games with.

Last year the entire table had a great time of playing this game. It was fun and we were laughing the entire time. I was really looking forward to what Gil had come up with in a years time.

I wasn't disappointed. The game is fantastic once it hits kickstarter I will be all over it.

We had a lot of time to kill after the Networks before the late night slot. So we hung out with Gil and played this game.

I'm not a fan of these type of games. The game was OK. It's not one I would ever own but we had a good time playing it and that's what matters.

Gil Hova is one of those guys that once you start playing games with him it's hard to leave him. So he brought out this game which he kickstarted and we played a 6 player game of it. It was fun and funny. I'm not a huge party game guy but I admit I had fun playing it. A couple of the guys Jon, and PJ liked it a lot and decided to back the kickstarter.

I have no idea what version of this game we played and to be honest I don't really care. I can't stand Fluxx. Sorry to the fans of this game, I'm sure there is something good and fun about it but the best part of this game was the fact that we had to end it early to join our late night slot.

If I never play a version of Fluxx again it will still be too soon.

All three of the guys that joined me for ConnCon wanted to play this so we thought it would be fun for the four of us to get a game in together.
The first game was a rough mess. A lot of us weren't really sure what we were supposed to do.

The second game Joe, who taught the game added some secret roles. That made the game a lot better and by the third game we were having a great time playing it.

We even somehow talked Joe into playing another game of this on Saturday night well after hours.

So my buddy PJ somehow managed to get his hands on this game. The guy who had it let him borrow it for the night.

I know PJ is a big wrestling fan. So we sat down and played a couple of one on one games where I did beat him both times. Then we grabbed my brother and Eric, the other guy that came with us and did a four player free for all. I stomped all of them. Even though I am 3-0, I will retire an undefeated Mexican wrestling champ.

No doubt this was my favorite game of the Conn. This was my Saturday morning 8AM game slot. After getting to bed at 3AM and getting up at 645AM I was ready to run a circus.

Francie taught this game and she did an excellent job. The other two guys at the table were awesome to play with and man we had a serious blast playing this game. After the game I asked Francie if she had some free time later maybe we could play it again. Francie is an amazing person. Not only did she make time to play it again with me but everytime we ran into each other she would give me updates on when she thought she would be able to play it again.

I ordered this game right from the Artipia Games website and I can't wait til it arrives.

This game has been on my list for a long time and I have never played it. Todd Redden taught this game and he's another really good dude who is a lot of fun to play games with. He did a great job teaching the game.

My plan right from the beginning was to plan ahead and prepare for the negative events. I am happy to say that not one of the 10 negative events affected me in anyway. I was able to meet all of them. The problem is that I got stomped and finished in 4th place out of 5 people. Apparently you have to do a little more than just "handle" the events. I guess you have to score some points along the way at some point.

I had a great time playing it and hopefully I will be able to add this to my collection at some point.

I enjoyed this game quite a bit. I think a couple of my buddies PJ and Eric didn't care for it very much but I liked it. I will definitely be adding it to my collection.

Not my type of game but Chris Watkins ran a no ship Con auction and his prices were pretty reasonable. I bought this for $10 and figured we would get it played at some point.

We had some time to kill waiting for Francie to finish her game of Viticulture so we could dive back into Drum Roll. So we went through the rules quick and picked up a 4th player who PJ had met earlier.

It's not a bad game. It's not great but I would play it again. I'll definitely keep it in my collection so that's a good thing.

At this point it was pretty late but we somehow talked Joe into running a few quick games of Two Rooms and a Boom.

It was apparent early that Joe was going to have his hands full. It was late and a lot of people had been drinking and weren't paying attention. I think at one point I even saw his head do a couple of 360s.

Anyway we got through a couple of games and then went to bed to get ready for my Sunday 8AM game slot.

Probably my most anticipated game of the Con. I backed the deluxe version and ever since watching the Rahdo Run Through I have been excited about this one.

The game delivered for me. It was fun and really smooth I thought. Now I am really looking forward to getting this one.

The four of us scheduled this game together figuring we would end our Con at the same table. My buddy PJ is also a fan of Eric Summerer so he wanted to play this game in this slot where Summerer was the teacher.

The other person teaching this game was Dustin Gervais. Dustin is a real good dude. It was fun playing Two Rooms and a Boom and he was great to play Tragedy Looper with. If you ever get a chance to play with Dustin, take it.

We broke or I should say I broke the no talking rules and after losing the first loop on our first turn I asked him multiple times if we were the dumbest group he ever played with.

So PJ and Jon played with Summerer and me and Eric played with Gervais. We did terrible. We never made it to day 3 and he even gave us a bonus loop. We had a lot of fun with the game and I bought it just incase we get a chance to play it. Now I just have to figure out how to get Dustin to come to upstate NY to run it for us.

Once I saw this game on the Con library list, one of my main goals was to get this game played. It's been on my radar for a long time and I don't really want to drop the 70-100 bucks this game is going for without knowing if I am going to like it or not.

Unfortunately this doesn't have a happy ending. I never did get a chance to play this game. To make matters even worse after I finished Tragedy Looper and was on my way to collect my wife and 14 month old son for our trip home, I just happened to walk by the table where my euro brother Todd is just setting up a game getting ready to play it. Damn you Todd!!! You'll have to let me know what you thought of this game.

I couldn't believe how much fun I had this year. I don't plan to miss another ConnCon. I am definitely going to the Falcon in the fall. As soon as I get the info I will be booking my room. I met so many amazing people and played a bunch of really good games. I hope to see them again in the fall.

I can't compare this Con to any other Con out there because this is the only one I have ever been to, but if you are anywhere close to Stamford Connecticut you have to make going to this Con a serious priority. It's a great time.
