This list is to track my entire weight loss journey. I don't want multiple lists going for myself.

HIGH LEVEL VIEW:
-- From 3/30/15 - 5/25/15, I lost 20.8 lbs participating in the Spring Weight Loss Challenge.
-- From 5/25/15 - 6/22/15, I gained 7.6 lbs by going crazy and not caring what I ate or drank.
-- From 6/22/15 - (current), I am participating in the Summer Weight Loss Challenge.

WHAT STARTED IT ALL:
Before the first weight loss challenge, I thought I was around 240-245 lbs, which is my highest ever, but my first time on a scale in months (3/30) revealed that I was 256.2 lbs. Ouch.

Since I am 6'1", that leads to a BMI of 33.5.

Underweight = <18.5
Normal weight = 18.5–24.9
Overweight = 25–29.9
Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

I am officially obese. The BMI scale has its limits, but for the most part, it is accurate. The fact is, I am fat and I need to not be.

WHAT I AM DOING TO LOSE WEIGHT:
-- Drinking 125 oz of water a day
-- Walking 10,000+ steps a day
-- Doing body weight exercises
-- Not eating fast food, soda, candy, chips, and crap like that.

I am feeling motivated to start this competition... competitions do that for me. While I am definitely aiming for the 6%, and I am gunning for the highest % of weight loss, I know this is a longer term project that needs to last after the competition has ended.

Week 2: 4/6/2015

I had a good first week. I doubted and questioned some decisions (some snack choices that may have been higher in sodium, "did I work out enough?", I didn't get enough water on Easter, etc)... I worried that I wouldn't do as well.

I am highly motivated to continue. I am aware that this week will probably be a lot less, though not necessarily. I plan to move and workout more than last week (didn't want to go too strong the first week and injure myself or get sick). I am stoked.

I am getting a FitBit... I worry it may affect me while typing, so it may be returned, but having something measuring all of my movements will be helpful as I realized I forget my phone a lot.

Week 3: 4/13/2015

Wow... I am shocked. I expected a low week, but when I saw the rankings and I was only 8th, I knew I had to step it up a notch. I also weighed around that time, and I had only lost half a pound.

I have really stepped up my exercise, but my body is still too heavy to be pushing it too hard, and my ankle and knee have been sensitive. I am sure to stop as soon as I feel something, and so far that has been working.

With TableTop day, and me sitting on my butt for 6 hours, I knew I had to get steps in whenever I could. I went for 2 walks that morning, and when I was playing with my kids outside, I walked back and forth between houses just to get steps in. Plus, between games I did a lap around the inside of the game store. Then, I went to the gym after, and did over 5 miles that day.

I also managed to get 8000 steps on Sunday, when I was selling games for 3.5 hours. It is amazing how many steps you can get in not sitting at a computer all day. I didn't even get a walk in yesterday. Gotta do what I can.

Guess: Hoping for 4-5 pounds. If I can keep the movement and exercise up, and if I can continue to make healthy eating choices (starting to get a little bored), then I should be able to. Will be happy with 2.5 lbs.

I love the FitBit I got last week. It measures all of my walking, even if I forget my phone, giving me a much more accurate picture of my activity. Plus, it allows me to push for goals each day as well.

Week 4: 4/20/2015

A rough previous week. I lost less than a pound, but losing anything is good. I did not sleep well several nights, and that really affected my energy, so I worked out less, I did not walk as much as I wanted to, I had less focus on what I was eating. I did eat one fast food meal, and it tore my body up into the next day.

I need to make sure I go to bed earlier than I have. I need to refocus on what I am eating (I have become a little more sloppy). I need to make sure I am drinking as much water as I should.

I plan to start a colon cleanse this week. Hope to get my body processing food better, plus I plan to eliminate build up, so that should help with my overall health as well.

Week 5: 4/27/2015

A pretty good week... after a lower loss last week, I knew I needed to kick it into gear. I lost 3.8, pretty close to my 4 pounds guess. Still, I am doing mostly walking/jogging. It's the fear of getting sick from burning fat, releasing the toxins from all of the garbage I ate. It's time to kick it into gear and start working out, and push through the inevitable sickness, and really start exercising more.

I didn't start the colon cleanse yet... hoping to this week. It was dependent on someone else ordering it (he is doing it too). So, it hasn't come in yet. Looking to enjoy better metabolism, more energy, and of course, the weight loss from the crud built up inside of me. Gross, right? Talk about getting sick.

Now to gun for first place. After going from #8 to #6, I dropped out of the top 10 last week. That was a bit demotivating at the time, but now it serves as even stronger motivation. I need to hit that top 3.

Week 6: 5/4/2015

When I talked about getting sick last week, I thought it would be from burning and breaking down fat and releasing toxins... I didn't think it would be because my kids interacted with germ factories at the mall playground, which brought a flu bug that got every member of our household, all at once.

I managed to lose weight, but it feels like a major setback. I still don't have all of my energy back, I don't feel up to pushing myself harder like I planned to starting last week... I am struggling. I am going to walk as much as I can today to get back to healthy rhythms, but I don't expect that to be more than 5k steps.

Hopefully this will be a recovery week, getting me back in the habit, combined with the cleanse I started back up this morning, it should get me on track.

Week 7: 5/11/2015

It was inevitable... well, maybe not, but I gained weight this week. It was a combination of losing too much weight while being sick (so it came back on naturally), still not feeling motivated or up to getting back into my routine and patterns, and not being as on point with my eating.

It was a lot worse earlier in the week, and luckily it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Not great obviously, but I am still above 6%.

Hopefully I can get back into action this week, and back on track. I need to finish strong. While I have a very long way to go, I do need to take it a week at a time.

Week 8: 5/18/2015

Wow... I cannot believe it is the final week of the challenge... I am close to my original estimation of what 1st place would be, which was a big challenge for me. People did way way way better than I expected, and I am so excited for them.

Unfortunately, challenges are what motivate me, and I noticed a definite mental shut off once I realized I couldn't win. That hit me at about the same time that I got sick, and so I became mentally weak and was more lax on what I ate, wasn't focused on my water intake like at the start, and simply didn't exercise as much as I had before.

This past week was even more lax... I enjoyed some ice cream, a half of a donut (instead of a dozen, so I guess that is progress), I barely exercised (only 18k steps in the past 7 days)... and yet I still managed to lose some weight, not much, but the rest of my life patterns are helping.

But, I do know this is a long term goal. All 56 lbs weren't going to be lost in this challenge. The challenge was enough for me to get started on my goal. People are noticing and commenting on the weight loss success I have had so far. I am not giving up. I am re-motivated. I know I can enjoy the occasional ice cream, the occasional donut, I can go out to eat and enjoy something... because that's life. I can't be hyper-focused 100% of the time.

But, this week I definitely will be to finish off strong!

Goals for the Week:
I like Lisa's idea of having smaller goals for the week. That is a lot easier to tackle, and they are based on action (something I can control) rather than circumstances (why weight, which may not always comply). This will be good going forward, so I will start now.

-- Drink 123 ounces of water every day.
-- No junk food/fast food.

END OF CHALLENGE: 5/25/2015

So much for finishing off strong... I started out with such intentions, but it didn't last. I am just lazy, and the laziness crept in.

I definitely need to find a different motivator than competition. While an effective motivator, once the sense of competition of gone, I fall back into laziness. Even goals for the week, which I thought may be a good motivator, didn't work. I may have to dial it down to a single goal until I establish that goal as a pattern day in day out, week in, week out.

I need to/want to get down to 200 lbs, or I will get back up to 255 and even go past that to 265, 275, 285.

I plan to continue to track my progress here, but I am taking a week off... I will enjoy a few foods I have missed (Hey Cinnabon, I am talking about you), I will make a plan for 1 month and then I will resume my progress on here until I hit that "200 lb" mark. I suspect it will take at least 16 weeks, which would bring me to the 2nd week of September... add a little bit more, and I should hopefully be 200 lbs by the end of September.

It's been a good challenge, and losing 20 lbs, over 8% of my body weight, was no small feat. I just need to double down, and really work on burning those remaining 35 lbs.

BREAK: 5/22/15 - 6/22/15

So, taking a break, I went way overboard, eating way too much crap, and I ended up gaining quite a bit. It is depressing, but also motivating because I truly do not want to be that fat again.

I did a ton of walking during that break, and still managed to gain that much weight, it would have been really bad. Luckily, the patterns of walking have really helped.

Challenge 2 (Summer 2015)
Week 1: 6/22/15

I am motivated to lose weight. I think I have a shot at being top 3, and there aren't even free games for the winners this challenge. My goal is to be in the top 3. I will need to push, and not get lazy, but that is my goal. I don't know how much weight I will need to lose to pull that off, but I am motivated to do it.

Guess: 5-6 lbs... After the initial shock to the system, my body usually begins losing weight quickly when I make a massive change to be healthy. I would LOVE to lose 7.6 lbs this week (since I gained that much).[/i]

Challenge 2 (Summer 2015)
Week 2: 6/29/15

A good start last week... my walking motivation is keeping me motivated. I didn't have any real cheats except a small piece of mochi ice creamat my brother in-laws' birthday. I probably would have had 3-4 plus a piece of pie so that's good.

I did get a mild flu on Thurs and Fri. Probably from toxins in my fat being released while breaking down. Not a bad loss.

Looking forward to another week... I wasn't sure if this week's loss would be high, so I had been preparing myself for the worst to not be discouraged, so I am not overly happy about the loss, which is probably a good thing...

Week 3: 7/6/15

Wow... I didn't think I would do this well... 3.6 lbs lost. I did eat out at a fast food place once, and didn't eat the best stuff on the 4th, but I didn't go overboard each time.

The walking I am doing is really paying off. Running would probably speed up the process, but it also does the most damage to my knees, ankles, and shins... so, I will keep walking because it is working, and hopefully it is strengthening my legs.

Feeling very motivated to continue!

Next Week's Loss:
Guess: 3 lbs... So far I am doing pretty well... will hit a wall sometime, but will keep gunning for 3 lbs lost.

Week 4: 7/13/15

Phew... it was my wife's birthday this week, and I decided to have a cheat day. I had fast food for lunch, and I had fish & chips for dinner, with cheesecake... Even with that cheat day, I lost 3.4 lbs! I am quite excited about that. Helps me know that I don't have to go and stay cold turkey and I can still lose weight.

Next Week's Loss:

Final Thoughts:
What I am doing is working, and is pretty sustainable. Just have to keep doing it.

Week 5: 7/20/15

Another week and another 3 lb loss. I had another cheat day, and so I am going to keep that up. Sustainability after the challenge is key, so that is helpful. The pizza guy came to my door by mistake earlier in the week... it smelled sooooo good. I knew I was going to have pizza on my cheat day from that moment.

Week 6: 7/27/15

Lost only 1.2 lbs this week... had a cold, so my exercise was a lot less than normal earlier in the week. Also, went out to eat an additional time (not on my cheat day), and that didn't help. I was a bit higher yesterday and the day before, so I am glad the weight did come off, because I was looking at a gain. I also think I went a little overboard on the cheat day. Time to reign that in a little.

This Week's Weight: 226.6 lbs (-1.2 lbs)(- 0.49% off of starting weight)


Next Week's Loss:
Guess: Gunning for getting back to the 3 lbs lost.

Final Thoughts:
Tighten up cheat day a little, get my exercise in, lose weight. With prizes now, I may need to step my game up... doubt I can get 1st, but 2nd should definitely be doable.

My first gain this competition... I knew I would hit a wall sooner or later, and it happened to be the same week that I ate out while traveling, and had another unexpected time of eating out as well.

Oh well, back at it this week.

Home stretch... I had a loss this week, and I really didn't think I was going to. (It was my birthday, so I definitely enjoyed some food this week). Really makes me think last week's spike was just a normal fluctuation I hit on the wrong date.
