So, life has been busy this week, with a new quarter of teaching and other events (excuses, excuses) - in particular the family went together to an Open House for the high school my son will be attending next year.

That coming big change inspired the question and theme -

Are there any notable transitions you see approaching in the near future for your family, which you view with excitement/trepidation/mixture of feelings? If nothing in the near future, feel free to talk about anything from your family's past...

One of the other transitions on my mind quite a bit lately is that I need to say goodbye to some number of games. The game closet is over-full, and we just aren't playing everything we've got.

Do you feel like you've reached a point in your game acquisitions where you need to stay at something of an equilibrium? I.e., get a few games, get rid of an equal number? If so, how do you decide which games to have leave your household?

The problem with getting rid of games is that there is the possibility down the line that you will really want to play a game you don't have anymore !!!

Are there any games which you used to own, but no longer do, that you regret giving away / trading away / selling ? Or that you've lost or remember from your childhood that you'd really like to play again?

Last week was Spring Break here, and so we went to spend some time with my wife's mom & partner in Eugene. We always bring games along, and make time to play (although I had to work part-time). Plus, I had responded to an internet post and had arranged to purchase a set of seven used games from another gamer undergoing a 'get rid of some games' transition - exciting!

So, a good week for us, relatively speaking:

Dixit - as I've mentioned before, a favorite of my mother-in-law (and the entire family)
Super Circles
Martian Dice
Dominoes
Tokaido
King of Tokyo
Word on the Street Junior
Guillotine (new to us - used game)
Can't Stop x2 (new to us - used game)
Um Reifenbreite (new to us - used game - but only a few introductory rounds)

Can't Stop seemed to go over pretty well with my daughter - but my son thought it was too much luck. I'm interested to get back to Um Reifenbreite, it looks like a fun time for the family.

The other used games I acquired were: Serenissima (first edition) (currently on the table here at home); La Città ; Oasis ; and Tigris & Euphrates. Several of these are actually German editions, so I've been using BGG File resources a bunch...

A fairly quiet week of gaming for me - pretty much just Friday night games, plus some games on Saturday morning with a hockey friend, before we drove to Cardiff for our match. Friday night turned into party game night after the obligatory game of Terra Mystica, which was fun! All games with adults, although my older son did join in, and win, the Settlers of Catan game with my friend.

2 x Timeline
1 x Boggle, Settlers of Catan, Core Worlds, GiftTrap, Knowing Me Knowing You, Take it Easy, Take Two, Terra Mystica, Time's Up, Wizard

A rather sparse week for me.......... probably due to DIY activities taking out some evenings.

Schotten-Totten x 1
Galaxy Trucker x 1
Thurn und Taxis x 1
Love Letter x 1
Vikings x 1
Octiles x 1

plus TransAmerica and the inevitable Apples to Apples at the school games club

What can I say? Netrunner has taken over. This is now my favorite game, displacing Dominion, which had a three-year, never-disputed run in that role.

Over a hundred plays now. Still haven't used a single expansion card. Still more than half my current plays are just using the "Starter Decks," that is, just picking a faction, shuffling in the neutrals, and playing. I'm barely playing the game as it is meant to be played, in other words. So what!

I'm also having good success introducing Netrunner to a number of my local game group friends. I think many of them are like me in that--if you tried to sell us this game as a big LCG have-to-buy-expansions, have-to-spend-time designing decks--this would be a total turn-off. But as a stand-alone game--where even the deck-building aspect is totally optional--that is something that appeals to the essentially pure Euro-gamer that I and my friends are most comfortable identifying as.

 10   Android: Netrunner x6
 8   Love Letter x2
10   Race for the Galaxy x2
 9   Ticket to Ride x2
 4   Viva Topo! x2
 6   Cheeky Monkey
 7   Russian Railroads
 7   San Juan
 7   Sushi Go!
 6   The Magic Labyrinth

My first time using this tool to achieve the format above. I used to pretty much do this same thing, but by hand. It would take 10-20 minutes. This took 10 seconds. Awesome cool

My brother in law came for a visit two nights in a row last week, as I was home alone (with the kid). We really liked Splendor, it's a fun game!

And the kid got a simple roll & move game from the Traffic Directorate, meant to educate him about the correct behaviour in the traffic. Played it once with him.

 N/A   Splendor x7
 7   Pickomino x2

Last week was pretty quiet for me from a gaming point of view, but did involve assembling quite a lot of Ikea furniture (with still a lot left to do). Still, got to play a few games...

With Miss B...
6.5   GUBS: A Game of Wit and Luck - on our 10x10 list, and a good bit of fun for light take-that action.
7   Pickomino - also on our 10x10 list, and this was a great game, with me having a fantastic start but Miss B recovering from the world's worst start to beat me on the tiebreaker.

With adults only...
7   Cartagena x2 - I introduced this to the guys at work, and they loved it for its simplicity while still having good/fun tactical decisions.
8   Star Realms - with the wife; we have a couple of the Crisis expansions, but haven't yet felt the need to break into them. Soon, I expect.
