I feel like I've been on a quest to find my 'one true game.' Reading GeekList after Geeklist; buying games upon games (not such a bad thing); reading pdfs of rule upon rules, playing game after game. All in quest to see if I can find the one game I want to play to the exclusion of all others; that 'desert isle' game - the one I'd have on my desert isle with my desert isle food (peanut butter and bagels and beer).

In my quest I have considered such things as bits and pieces, theme, amount of randomness, degree of competitiveness versus cooperation (the Diplomacy to Pandemic scale). My family and I have mashed up various games (Carcassonne with Star Wars figures combating for a monastery is pretty fun) all in order to determine what makes an ideal game for me.

So, now I am curious does such a game exist for others? Is it a portfolio of games to satisfy different moods? Please chime in with your thoughts and opinions.

We have used Star Wars Fighter Pod figures and the SW rules from online Heroscape rules and cards to make some very enjoyable games. But not so much as to be "The One"

I play this game more than any other, largely because I really like it, and also it's the most widely accessible game for regular gamers and more casual gamers alike. I like the theme, it has as much cutthroat interaction as you want, or it can be more casual, depending on how you play. And it has nearly endless variety with all the expansions and fan-made content. It's very easy to add or house rule your own things into the game.

If you don't mind the LCG thing, this has been the "one game for me." I have many games, but once I got this one, I haven't played anything else and I frankly don't have the desire to play anything else. My BGG time has also been greatly diminished because I don't care what the latest "buzz" game is. If I have money for games, I know where it will be going. This may wear out, but I have a long way and a lot of scenarios to play before then.

This is my one game. There are games I've played more and there are games that have given me better memories, but this is the one I alway want to play. I've always been very on the outside of the cult of the new and I have a very small collection of very big games, in contrast, this is ssuch a light game with so much variety of play that I'm always looking forward bring it to the table with a few beers.
