After a lengthy delay to take stock and let tempers simmer down, we now present your Elite 8. This year includes 3 previous Champions, 1 Runner-up, 1 Bronze winner, 2 Quarter-finalists and 1 brand new contender. This is the first year since 2012 that a #1 or #2 seed has made the Elite 8. Please check out Item #9 on this list for some important clarifications and rule updates. All participants in this round are guaranteed an award for their participation. This round is slightly longer than normal in order to help it restart its momentum.

Voting Is Closed for This Round

Round 5 Link: Official 2015 Geek Madness Tournament: Final Four (Rd. 5) - VOTING CLOSED

Rules:
For each match-up, vote for your favorite game by clicking on the thumbs-up icon. This round ends Thursday, April 9th, evening BGG time (Central).
A thumb for the GeekList is not required but encouraged and appreciated! Please help this stay on the front page to attract the attention of the most voters. Thanks!

You may vote for any games, whether you have owned or played them. You can vote based on any criteria that is important to you. You can cheer for your team, recruit legitimate voters, and rib the other team - just keep it modestly civil! Please feel free to comment on the games and match-ups, and most importantly, have fun!

IMPORTANT: This is meant as a fun competition. Please only vote with your main User account, i.e., ONE VOTE PER PERSON PER GAME PER ROUND (yes, you may vote for both games in a pairing if you really are undecided). Do not create "dummy" or shill accounts to vote multiple times as those votes will be voided if discovered.

45 Ticket to Ride (Series)* vs. 5 Agricola

Third Round: d. Keyflower 1344-765
Second Round: d. Le Havre 1160-629
First Round: d. Dominion (Series) 989-986

Comment: TTR nearly doubled up on Keyflower and hopes the momentum carries it past the Gric.

Rematch: These two meet for the fourth time. Agricola has held TTR winless in all previous meetings with last year being the closest (909 - 1,018) in terms or percent difference.

Geek Madness took a break due to a few factors. It seems appropriate to resurrection it on this particular Sunday.

It was paused given that the 3rd round saw the most intensive posting of Shill accounts (all games had at least 1 shill vote). There were also some irregular voting patterns that needed to be looked into before I felt comfortable moving on. The delay was also extended due to it falling outside of the window it had been allotted given my schedule over the last week or so and most of the family coming down with a bug. After that, it seemed good to let things cool down a bit.

The above results are the official results at the time it was closed (03/28/2015) and subtracting out the shill votes.

Going forward I wanted to clarify a few points and address additional guidelines for the Geek Madness.

First and foremost, this event is meant to be fun. Part of what has made it fun over the years is the trash-talking and shifting alliances from the voters. The trash-talking has been turning more personal of late as those new to the contest don't understand the chatter back and forth.

Trash-talking will continue to be a part of the Madness and moderation will continue to be relaxed. But understand the trash-talking should be directed at the games and not personal attacks against voters. Your favorite game is going to be made fun of and will most likely be flawed to someone who will make it known. It will probably even be called a non-game at some point because it has cards, or doesn't have cards, or is a puzzle or co-op or whatever. If you can't handle that, don't partake in the comments or leave your feelings at the door.

Shill accounts voting will continue to be rooted out and reported to admins as they are found. These accounts will most likely be deleted with the potential of the main account getting some sort of discipline.

Voting will not be restricted for real voters. New users will not be discriminated against (unless a "new user" is found to be a shill vote). "Non-participators" will not be discriminated against. All of these have a right to participate regardless of longevity or contributions to BGG.

Voting can be for whatever reasons you want. You do not have to own/play either/both games in a match up. Your reason for voting is your own: because you like the one, hate the other, want to get revenge on one for knocking out your favorite; whether it is your favorite designer, mechanic, theme, art, whatever. The definition has always been loose on which game is "better" for you.

This contest is the Geek Madness for the Board Game Geek community. As such, recruitment should be done here on the Geek. If outside advertisement is done, it should highlight only the Madness itself and not a particular match-up; it should be directed to the header of the current round. This is not a preferred method of recruitment and may be further restricted in future rounds. Advertising within BGG should be done in the News section only of particular games and limited to one announcement per round per game. Spam GeekMails should be avoided.

No rule changes will be made this round (though subject to change if things get too rowdy again). There is a potential for some sort of temporary retirement to be implemented in future Geek Madness events. If that becomes a reality before 2016, the results of the 2015 event will count towards any restrictions that come up (for example, it back-to-back winners must sit out a year, 2015 will count as the first win, 2014 and prior will be ignored). Further, bending of the above guidelines could result in disqualification of games.

Rules remain subject to change. Schedule remains subject to change.

If you want to comment, you can post below here or in this thread: Future of Geek Madness: Ideas & Solutions to Eliminate Shill Voting. Note, however, that I did not start that thread and Geek Madness is not bound to any discussion that may arise from there.
