We've all been there. Maybe you saw that game on TV. Maybe a friend had a copy. Maybe you read about it. Or, maybe you saw it in a store and it just looked awesome. However, you didn't get it at the time and instead filed it away in the old memory banks for later.
I've been a thrifter my whole life, but have turned my attention to board games over the last 2 years. Some games I bought because I enjoyed them at meetups, others I learned about through BGG or just because box looked intriguing.
These, however, are games that I thrifted because I wanted them as a kid. I haven't found that copy of Dark Tower yet, but I did find these. Please feel free to add your finds, and my apologies if this concept's been done before.
And remember, as a great man once said, "It's never too late to have a happy childhood! "

I had a subscription to Games Magazine for a while when I was a kid and read about this game there. The board looked really cool, and the record collector in me dug that it was packaged like a gatefold LP. Haven't gotten this to the table yet, so I don't know if it holds up.

Another one that I read about in Games Magazine. I loved the idea of chasing Mr. X all over London! Anyway, I have played this since finding it, and it definitely holds up.

I must have seen this one on TV. Dropping down to the board below always reminded me of the Transporter Beam on Star Trek. Haven't played this with other people yet, but I did try playing against myself and, well, I can't give a ringing endorsement but I still like it. The final board can definitely be solved, but I think it's OK up to that point.

One of my favorite songs when I was young was "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees. That, and some sort of primal joy in watching game pieces fall through the board (see above) meant that I wanted this game pretty badly. So, I finally picked up a copy, replaced half the marbles, and...at least I still like watching marbles drop through the board.

I remember playing The Game of Life and Go For Broke with some of my cousins. However, when one of them brought this out my young mind was blown. Unfortunately, I didn't get the hang of it at the time. I did like it enough to file it away for future reference, though. Finally picked up a wooden box copy (my cousin had the copy with the general's photo on the cover) a few months ago, and I'm hopeful about getting some plays with it.

The most recent find and inspiration for this list. This was another one that I read about in Games Magazine. I already enjoyed Master Mind and loved the idea of "shooting invisible rays" in order to solve a mystery. Since picking it up I've played a few of the solitaire games, and I'm happy to say that it absolutely holds up.

Had a friend that had this game when I was younger and we loved playing it. I was quite pleased to thrift it, now if only I could find someone willing to play it with me.

A friend in second grade had this one and we played it during recess a lot.

He moved away and it almost became one of my first game purchases as I offered to buy it, but he declined. I found it for next to nothing in thrift store and it has held up fairly well.

I always wanted this one as a kid, and once I realized I was an adult and had money, I bought it on eBay for $26 back in 2002 before everyone else like me had the same idea and sent the price soaring up to $150 or more.
