Welcome Fools,

The wait is over, real life intervened but I have now managed to shake the nuisance off for long enough to announce the final results.

Rather than simply announce the results, I thought I'd go through the results as scored by each scoring method to show the outcome.

I really didn't think this one through. Fortunately only 4 of you were foolish enough to vote for it (or perhaps cruel depending on whether you worked out the logic and voted for it anyway).

Tzolk'in won mechanics and components
Pandemic won Thematic integration and challenge
Carcassonne won replayability and accessibility
King of Tokyo won interaction

That means that there were multiple ways of 2 games winning a combination of 4 categories between them. Therefore El Grande wins.

Oops. Well, it's a moot point anyway because this didn't happen!

Point values
Mechanics=6/vote
Components=5/vote
Replayability=4/vote
Accessibility=3/vote
Challenge=2/vote
Interaction=1/vote
Thematic Integration=0/vote

With most of the really challenging well known euros out of the contention in the first round, challenge seemed to be a long way down everyone's agenda. Equally, with most of the Wargames and Ameritrash titles gone, interaction and thematic integration did not seem to be the order of the day. One thing everybody could agree on was accessibility and replayability. As I expected, mechanics was the most voted for category, demonstrating that it doesn't matter what the stripes of the game are, good mechanics underpin all of the ones worth talking about.

18) War of the Ring (1 sets)
18) Brass (1 sets)
23) Goa (0 sets)
23) Crokinole (0 sets)
23) Ora et Labora (0 sets)

A clear win for Pandemic here, it seemed to do consistently well in every category, which put it head and shoulders above everyone else for this round.

Unsurprisingly, Crokinole scored nothing for thematic integration.

It did start to worry me when I saw that this was edging closer to winning. Ultimately, more sensible scoring methods won out.

I guess Tzolk'in would probably fare best out of all of them, I suspect you'd still be able to spin it's misshapen wheel about in some semblance of a game after it had been set on fire, which is more than you can say for all the ones made out of cardboard and wood alone.

If anyone wants to conduct an experiment and report back you are more than welcome (with your own copies might I add).

9) Castles of Mad King Ludwig (82 VP)
9) Five Tribes (82 VP)
11) Dungeon Petz (80 VP)

22) Command & Colors (48 VP)
22) Crokinole (48 VP)
24) Ora et Labora (32 VP)
25) Age of Empires 3 (31 VP)

With nearly three quarters of the field failing to reach their 100VP marker, this was a sad showing for a Stefan Feld scoring. Pandemic had a comfortable, but not insurmountable lead again.

Now we're onto the real deal. Please put your hands together for Pandemic, what it was the best at is still to be deciphered, for example for every one person that thought Brass challenging, there twice as many people for Pandemic. Possibly, Pandemic has won the privilege of being the most well known game that hasn't pissed off enough people yet. Who knows, perhaps you can help decide below.

Well, here's to hoping it's pissed off a few more by winning this contest over so many other "worthy" titles.

Thanks for following and see you anon.

1) Pandemic (17 VP)
2) Carcassonne (16 VP)
3) Ticket to Ride (15 VP)
4) King of Tokyo (14 VP)

Poll
Why did Pandemic win the contest?
Pandemic hasn't won anything, it's a figment of my imagination, I just need to wake up.
It is genuinely the best all round performer in the top 100. No seriously, don't look at me like that.
It isn't good enough to be offensive, but is popular enough to win.
The expansion contains petri dishes, what more evidence do you need?
When the runners up in most categories were Carcassonne and Ticket to Ride, how could it not win.
Other, I'll leave you to figure out what an aggregate vote for this means.
