Up until the inspiration for this list, announced expansions or knowing there were expansions for games I like always got me excited about getting my hands on them.

This got me thinking: What are games you guys love, with expansions you have zero interest in?

The inspiration for this list. I don't know exactly what it is about it, or rather there are too many things about it to choose:

1. Adds a sixth tribe which kinda takes away from the FIVE Tribes.
2. Due to the replacement of the slaves it would be just slightly incompatible with my older copy even with the fakir cards I bought due to the djinn. (Speaking about the old djinn cards not having replacements available)
3. I just don't see what this adds to the game. Base game wasn't hurting for replayability, and the addition of yet another row of tiles and another tribe seems like it will only bog the game down and make it last longer.

As this is not out yet, only time will tell if it's good or not. If everyone raves about how much it improves the game I might try it out, but for the first time in this hobby I'm completely uninterested.

There are quite a lot but this is the first one that comes to mind. I've played twice with this expansion and won't play it any more, it turns a great game into a mediocre one. There's enough to do in Keyflower without collecting and moving three kinds of animals, and now my view of my and especially my opponents' tiles (which were already a bit crowded with the meeples and resources) gets blocked by loads of animals! No thanks! thumbsdown

I have most every expansion and promo for every game, but there are some I'm just not interested in, such as this one. This would change the game a bit too much from what we know and love, and make it a bit more random than we would like.

This also includes Railways of the World: Mines, Railways of the World: Hotels, Railways of the World: Fuel Depots.

These "expansions" to me seemed like ways to sell off a bunch of plastic pieces during their last Kickstarter with some quickly thrown together rules. The Hotels are simply used as visible markers to go along with existing rules. The Mines and Fuel Depots simply let you use rules on any map that were originally specific to one map. The only real "new" expansion is the Switch Tracks, which lets you turn a piece of track into a Y, basically so you can build off of an already used city entrance.

As much as I like the game and have all the maps, I don't play enough where I feel the need to use the Mines and Fuel Depots every single time I play. I like them being used in their own maps so that eachmap has its own individual quality, instead of them all having all the saem rules and losing anything that makes them different from each other. And the Switch Track just makes the game less strategic by being able to reuse city entrances and not have to worry about being blocked or blocking others.

I own Small World Underground, and have only bought the expansions that are completely compatible with it (which are Leaders, Cursed, Be Not Afraid), and the 6 Player Board.

I know the rest of the expansions are "technically" compatible, but I didn't like that you had to change to alternate terrain types, or sometimes redraw or leave out certain power/races completely that aren't compatible with each other. And I don't play this game often enough to need to change things even more with Necromancer Island.

Hopefully someday we'll get an actual Underground expansion, but from the sounds of it, that isn't likely to happen.

I bought the Promo Cards as soon as they were available, but have no interest in the Republic Expansion. This expansion isn't really expanding the game, it's more of a variant way to play, with all these cards simply substituting for others, and some slight rule changes for easier petitioning. So I passed.

Anything Pandemic after the design change.

First, the design change was crazy annoying. I think it might have been done to match the ipad game? Either that or I'm grasping at straws to rationalize something that is not understandable to the human mind. I'd like to say that there was some great motivating principle and that thought, care, and deliberation was put into it but then it becomes difficult to explain the gigantic cockup of the release with loads of misprints.

Second, so much shit is coming out for Pandemic now and it all looks so homogenous that I can't even tell what is an expansion and what is a spinoff anymore. I love Pandemic and I love On the Brink. The rest is dead to me.

This is basically a stand-in for all the Fresco expansions.

The thing I love about the base-game is that you can use the bare-bones version for introducing the game, and then build up to the real thing by putting in the modules. But once you've got all three modules in there, you've got a nice, complete game that isn't really asking for anything else.

Sure, you can mix and match instead of throwing everything in, but then you're constantly asking, "wait how does the glass work again?" and "what the heck is gold leaf!?" instead of just knowing how to play the game because you've played it before.

I might be wrong, but that's ok. I get to keep my money this way!

This is probably the most played game at my table. I have the two first expansions and they were very well receive by myself and my game group. When they annonced this one I was really excited, but it all went away fast.

I don,t know why really. maybe it's that there is now too much option every turn and i'm afraid of being punish every time I play a card rather than being rewarded. Maybe the fact that you can almost only influence your two neighbors is what i liked and this is changing it.

Or maybe i just don,t understand it and should try it to see for myself.

... And all the reinforcement packs. I think the Army expansions are awesome (and way, way overdue) and are a day 1 buy for me but one new Legendary unit per Reinforcement pack (for $15 each) that either side can use doesn't really do it for me. I bought this game to have a self contained miniatures game; the base game alone is excellent but is just shy of being infinitely replayable. The Army Expansions should fix this but the Reinforcement Packs turn it into a money pit, not the self-containted experience I want out of it

This is for all the small Imperial Assault packs.

I own Imperial Assault and do play it from time to time. We are only interested in the campaign however.

... so buying a miniature to replace a token you will be using... maybe... once during the entire campaign? And to have an extra mission you will probably not even encounter?

I'll stick with the tokens thanks. While those packs are not expansive, they certainly do add up if you try to replace all the base game tokens.

An expansion with a new campaign... sure why not?

Those miniature expansions... only good for the skirmish mode i don't play.

All the little card expansions for Agricola.

I like Agricola.

The base game already comes with a million cards and you only distribute around 50 of them in a game (where not even half of them are going to be actually played). Playing with Farmers on the Moor, you don't even use them, you use an alternate set of cards.

Why would i need to have a bajillion cards intead of a million? Especially when i find the family version a tad more fun that the "regular" game...

All the sheet expansions for Ogre designer's edition.

Seriously, THIS is what comes in the Ogre designer's edition:

And there's the bunch of 3D units that come with it:

In the basic Ogre scenario, you use only exactly 1 of those units.

Why would i need to buy even more units on those extra sheets?

I got the BGG sheets because i thought i was going to use them... i never did (outside using the BGG 3D HQ as a mission objective to blow it up once).

Zero interest in buying any of the other 10 or so sheets...

Here's what this list made me think of. Hands down the worst expansion to a game I've played. Things I like about Troyes:

1. Nice medium to heavy weight euro where you really have to think about how you're going to string together cards to get points.
2. Plays in 60-90 minutes.
3. As a round goes on, my options get less and less so I know I need to do important stuff first because it won't be there when it gets back to me.

Things Ladies does to the game:

1. Brings in super powered cards that don't require thought or planning. You can score more in a single action off some expansion cards than you could in entire games with just the base set. Likewise, you stop caring about how to manage resources like money and start thinking about what you can dig out of your game bag to use when all the chits run out.
2. Now there's more resources and more actions, double the game time!
3. Those extra actions can bring dice back into the game, meaning even more actions! Even more game time! Even more points! Everyone loves 4 hour games where you need a calculator at the end.

About the best thing in the box is the unstealable purple die everyone gets. I'm pretty sure I can pull 4 of those out of my dice back and chuck the rest of this expansion in the fire.

I've not got many plays of the base game under my belt but it seems to have such a high replay value stemming from the interaction with other players. So much of the beauty comes from the simplicity of components and rules in this game that I can't imagine an expansion improving upon that.

Same goes for the other expansion, and probably the upcoming expansion too. An excerpt from my comment:

The added mechanics are each sort of interesting on their own, but all together they add so much fiddliness that it eradicates the smooth play of the original. Echo, forecast, double-achieve, bonus points... it adds stuff, sure, but at the cost of all the elegance of the original. If one or two of these mechanics had been added in a smaller expansion, I can see enjoying it. All together, it's just a mess.

Some board game expansions give you the sense that the game is elaborating, expanding, and opening up new possibilities. This one just feels like all the extraneous ideas that were tossed around in playtesting and cut from the original Innovation design got mashed together.

Note that most Innovation fans seem to love the expansions. I straight up don't get it.

I can't speak to whether this is unnecessary, but a glance at comments on the geek seem to imply this comes across as a cash grab with unnecessary components. This may simply be a case of an expansion for a game that just doesn't need en expansion. I've held off purchasing based on what I've read, but certainly I'd always be up for a well received expansion for a game I love.

For as often as I get to play AoE, I'd much rather play the base game.

The original player powers were not balanced though that has been fixed in the reprint.

Not being able to judge which age 3 buildings will come out is also a pain.

I can see the additional strategic choices the builders provide, but My preference is again for the base game.
